Why do so many school shootings happen in America?
This morning I was watching the news, and apparently there was a school shooting (forgot where exactly), where a 12 year old kid fired shots for 10 seconds, shooting an 11 year old boy in the face and a 12 year old girl on the arm. Why do so many of these shootings happen in America? How exactly does a 12 year old kid get hold of a gun anyway? I'm just worried about how this situation is being handled.
We watched this Harvard lecture the other day in TOK class, and I found it interesting. It was about choices or something... can't remember. The point is:
If someone asked you to kill them, would you? Would that be considered ethically and morally wrong? Does consent justify murder?
This thread is inspired from an episode of Boston Legal I watched recently.
Basically, this man's sperm was "stolen" from him by his "girlfriend"... yadda yadda yadda. She ended up going to a fertility clinic, and got pregnant. The man didn't want to get her pregnant, but here she was.... pregnant. So, it turned into a court case.. the man wanted her to get rid of the child, and the woman wanted to keep it. Moving on... [but you should watch the episode]
Would you have been on the side of the court ordering the abortion, or on the woman's side, where she would get to keep the child?
Personally, that woman is insane, and I would have rather she not have that child. I know that when it comes to abortion, it's a life you're taking away, but when you think about that man and how this entire situation affects him.... it makes you wonder. He can't not be with the child once it's born, because then he'll be seen as this father-figure who's never around. And he can't stay with the woman because he didn't even want to have a child with her. I just think that women are valued so much these days, that I feel sorry for men, because it feels as if they're having all of their rights stripped away. We should be on equal planes, not one gender higher than the other.
My answer is no.
Because I think that the quality of music has really gone down recently. People these days rarely create real music, real art. The songs don't have meaning, and they usually spread hateful and horrible messages to society (I'm thinking about most rap music here); or they don't have any message at all. Like 'Call Me Maybe' by Carly Rae Jepsen. I hate that song, and I don't get it.
Especially pop music.... I can't remember the last pop song I heard that really touched my heart.
The only artists I can truly say I like these days are: Adam Lambert, Evanescence, Kamelot, Céline Dion, Michael Jackson, Michael W. Smith, Demi Lovato and Three Days Grace.
Recently went on this site....
And saw some pretty interesting comments....
About Africans....
Seeing as I am one, I'd like to read how people would describe an African. There are no wrong answers, just stupid ones.
Begin.
I pray all the time that they will, because I can't stand hearing about how this many people died because of this bombing, etc.
It really makes me worried about how the world is going to end up in 50 years.
Not a debate...
I would just like examples of a few good (but relatively clean.. relatively) insults. You know, to hurl at my brother.. and other humans. So, provide me with some! :)
So...
I've heard a lot about the game 'Call of Duty: Black Ops', and how great it is, so I looked it up on the PlayStation site.
It looks cool, so I asked my mum to look out for it in China or Dubai.
However, I also asked for a lot of other games (like LittleBigPlanet2 and Tekken Hybrid), so she probably won't get all of them.
Point is, if she makes me choose a few only, should I include 'Call of Duty' as well?
Is it truly amazing?
I've read some reviews and all, but...
It kinda reminds be of 'Resistance 2' (which I have and love), and I hate buying games that are similar, which is why I didn't bother getting Resistance 3. [If you don't know what 'Resistance 2' is, look it up.]
Also, I love online play. More so than story mode. So is the online play for 'Call of Duty' really great? I mean, can you ever get bored or tired of it?
I just want a game that's ridiculously fun, and that I'll never get tired of, which is why I asked for LittleBigPlanet2 because it's fun and it's never ending.
Help me out?
Personally...
I feel satisfied....
However...
School is frickin' hell right now, and I just want to sleep... for days.
But...
Education is important, so I must plow on.
Life is okay.
Could be better.
I wanna go to a theme park.
That would make me happier...
English is a very difficult language to learn:
The bandage was wound around the wound.
The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.
Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.
When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.
They were too close to the door to close it.
After a number of injections, my jaw got number.
Upon seeing the tear in the painting, I shed a tear.

There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France (I did not know this!). Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.

Quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. Writers write, but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham. The plural of tooth is teeth, and yet the plural of booth is not beef. One goos makes two geese, but one moose does not make two meese. If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?
In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Have noses that run and feet that smell? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposite?

Yet, English is one of the most commonly spoken languages in the world..
Why?
(BTW: Got this from my 'Theory of Knowledge' textbook)
I guess some people might love the world we live in currently...
However, I'm pretty sure that most people would want to tweak the way our world is here and there.
So, what would your ideal world be?
I have noticed that there are a lot of debates on religion and politics, and not that many on simple stuff like music, hobbies, etc.
I just think that we need more debates on less serious topics. I don't know the age range on this site, but I'm guessing everyone knows Justin Bieber.
So, do you think his music is good or not?
I enjoy football.
I love Barcelona.
However, I just think that footballers get paid a lot of money, for doing something that almost anyone can do. Not at their level of course, but it's still a ridiculous amount of money. In pounds no less.
Imagine what that money could be really used for.
Do yah?
Why or why not?
I believe in them after my older brother showed me this video, and at one point I was obsessed with making sure everyone else knew about them too. However now I'm not really interested in them, but I'm interested in whether other people believe in them or not.
I must say that suicide is a silly thing. I understand that people get depressed and feel like there's nothing more to live for, but honestly. Killing yourself doesn't only affect you, but it affects everyone around you. I hate saying this, but suicide is almost like a selfish act because you're only thinking of yourself at the time. So, yeah. :P
I am half asleep while writing this.. but I am definitely for Apple. In fact, I'm using a Mac right now and it's amazing. However, the latest iPhone was quite a dissapointment. I sure do miss Steve Jobs.
