Afghanistan is the land where a war has never been won but we're still there! We wanted out of Iraq and slowly but surely we're leaving. Why are the American people not up in arms about our actions and results in Afghanistan after all these years? Are we still waiting for Osama bin laden to pop his head out of a mud hut or what?
I heard the other day that another $2.00 tax will be put on cartons of cigarettes here in Connecticut. Do you really think they want us to stop smoking or do you think it's just an easy hit on the smokers for more taxes?
What do we hope to gain when we debate a topic? Do we wish to change the other people's minds and have them come around to our way of thinking or is it simply to get what we know or believe out there on a platform given us?
Outside of the geographical location what is it to be an American? Right now Jake has an "Un-American" debate up but I thought it would also be a good thing to see what people think an American should be. How do you see yourselves and what are those ingredients?
General acceptance of gays, gay rights, gay marriage, gay adoption...where does it end. Gays have been fighting for years to have the same rights as all other people. Do you think the fight should continue or do you think it's a lost cause?
I live in an area that has a huge lake and lakeside housing. Everyone has a boat or they're forever towing theirs to the location on the week-ends. After another summer of reading about boating accidents and deaths do you think a boating course should be mandatory for those who wish to sail through the waters anywhere?
So much to-do of late in wanting to defeat this bill that I'm not exactly certain of its benifits at this stage. Those that don't want it seem to think it's as close to Socialized medicine as you get gt and those that so seem to think it's OK if it is. What do you think the bill's worst attributes are and also what you might think would seal this bill in the peoples minds.
Is outsourcing really necessary outside of generating higher profits for the company that does it? Why aren't people angrier about outsourcing when our unemployment figures are so high? In my small Condo complex (28 Units) I know of 4 people who had high paying jobs that have been out of work for months. That's not to say that any of them would qualify for these jobs but many who are out there struggling do and need the money desperately. So...why do we put up with it and why do we buy from businesses that do outsource jobs?
Recently I came across a news bit that had a woman fighting for her life because of cancer. Her insurance company would not pay for the necessary medications for her because they were palliative and not curative but they would pay for assisted suicide! Is assisted suicide something you would avail yourself of if and when the time came or is suicide in any form abhorrent to you?
When is a good time to allow the use/ownership of a cell phone and what might you think the rules governing their use should be? By giving a young person a cell phone are we letting the genie out of the bottle on unnecessary texting?
