Another tale from my horrible childhood
When I was but a wee lad, there was an old drainage tunnel near where I lived, moss-covered and decrepit, I took great fascination in the old thing. But I was too scared to journey too far into it, my five year old self was very capable of fitting through the tunnel, but it was nonetheless claustrophobia inducing and eerie. Once, the tunnel started spewing water for no apparent reason, though there was no rain in the area, as if it were a hose. Where does it lead I wondered? One day, I couldn't help myself any longer, I faced my fear and went deeper than ever before into the tunnel. There were rats, slugs, and bugs of many shapes and sizes. The tunnel darkened and narrowed in time, and I was crawling hands-and-knees through a wrist-high stream of water, feeling the occasional something squishy under-hand and even half crushing a rat (who then gave me a bite on the thumb). It felt like forever until I got to the end, at which point the tunnel widened again and I found myself under a large metal canopy, it was the largest drainage spot I had ever seen, and it was well rusted. But soon I noticed my feet sinking into a pit of sludge, and the more I struggled, the deeper I sunk. I can't tell you how long I was there, all I can say is that it smelled horrible, and I wish they found me BEFORE they dumped out the next porta-potty.
