George Carlin said it best when he quipped " Why is it illegal to pay for something that is perfectly legal to get for free?" I know this is a controversial topic and that is what makes great debate fodder. Lets hear where you stand and why!
Many of us think of a cult as a group of sex perverts or satan worshippers. Do you know where the term Cult came from? It actually comes from the word cultivate. I argue thta ALL religions are a cult and here are my definitions a "CULT" from mirriam websters online dictionary!
1. a formal religious veneration
2. a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also; it's body of adherents
3.: a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents
4: a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator <health cults>
5a : great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad
b : the object of such devotion
c : a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion
As you see only one of those definitions is of an unorthodox or nefarius religion!
I am a huge movie fan and particularly love the original horror movies Dracula and Frankenstein. I love talking about them and debating about them. Just wanted to get your take on which is the better monster and why! Thanks
I learned in debate class that the best debators can debate any issue from any side, Whether you personally believe that side of the argument or not. We did it many times and I do it often here on Create debate. The Devil's advocate is many times a fun role to play when creating or participating in a debate. it makes you think outside the box and put yourself in the shoes of the other side.
Many religious people actually believe that the Earth is merely thousands of years old. this silly conjecture has been repeatedly disproven by science. We know it is at least billions of years old, probably Hundreds of Billions. We also know through science that large creatures called dinosaurs once walked the earth. So it seems to me that if the earth is only 10,000 years old and humanity was "Created" the same time as the "Earth" that it is possible that Jesus was not crusified but fed to dinosaurs! I find this as much a possibility as the story in the Bible!
The terrorist attacks on 9/11/01 were designed to spread fear, harm the economy, weaken our freedom, and drive us apart. Although we did come together as a nation after 9/11 this was short lived. Now we live in fear of another attack, we lost some freedoms we once had and our economy is on the verge of collapse. It was Ben franklin who once said "Those who are willing to give up a little freedom for a little security, deserve neither and lose both! this country is divided possibly more than it ever has been and I think you can draw a direct line to 9/11!
Everyday we see stories of children being seriously injured or killed because they found a gun in the home of their parents or of a friend. It seems to me that we live in too much fear and distrust that we endanger our children's lives by leaving deadly devices where they can find them and do damage. Would you leave a child alone in the house with a vicious dog, with matches and a box of cigarettes, poisonous substances where they can find them?
A debate is an argument meant to persuade the other side. It is supposed to be thought out, assertive and without waver. A sentence stating you agree or saying yes is useless ib=n a debate. that is ust your opinion not fodder for changing someones mind of affirming their belief!
Please give me your argument for or against this argument. Please answer in a thought out, factual and intelligent way. Please explain why you feel the way you do etc. Please do not leave a few sentences tht just agree or disagree with the topic. Please tell me why you feel that way! It is clear through science and DNA that humans are related to apes and even monkeys. This is fact based on genetics and the fossil record.
As a liberal I hear from conservatives that liberals do not love their country. Well i beg to differ. i feel that both side love their country and just think their is a better way to run it! We do not agree with how to make our country better for everyone but ultimately that is what we want. I have studied American history and it is clear that our forfather's were very liberal in their views and ideas and that is the country they set out to create! Where everyone is equal, everyone is free and we help our fellow Americans.
There are many who would like to change the Bill of Rights to ban gay marriage. i argue that gay people have the same rights as all other Americans and we cannot use a document created to protect civil rights and equality to exclude Americans based on their sexual prefference.
No matter whether you believe in Heaven, Hell, Vallhalla, Shangrila, utopia etc. many people believe in some form of Life after death. I propose that as scary as it may be that death is the end. it is permannent and there is no afterlife. The afterlife is just a way of people feeling comfortable with the end of their exsistence!
Here is my argument. popeye was a superhero.
1. He fought for the helpless and downtrodden.
2. He had an arch enemy
3. Once he ate spinach he had super human strength, speed etc.
4. not the only superhero that would require some kind of device of item to get powers. (Ironman, Green Lantern, shazzam)
This is a debate to get your opinion on one of life's most enduring and pressing questions. How much wood could a wood chuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Please let me hear your perspective on this potentially history changing topic!
This debate is about whether the proliferation of texting and the internet as a larger form of our communication and relationships with others will degrade our ability to have meaningful interpersonal relationships without the help of technology. We have to learn very young how to communicate and relate to our fellow humans. I think it can be argued that with the spread of certain technologies we will lowly lose this ability!
I am a New England native and around here the Red Sox are not just a pasttime they are a religion! I feel the Sox have a terrific team and will be the team to beat this year!
Some claim that we are alone in the universe. i feel that this goes against all the odds. With countless planets and solar systems in the universe we would be truly naive to believe we are alone in the vastness of space. Although the majority of life on other planets would probably not be intelligent, advanced cultures their is still life non theless!
Although we shroud ourselves in CIVILIZATION and technology. We are actually not that far removed from our prehistoric ancestors. We still require caves to live in, (although we call them houses) wear artificial loin cloths, hunt and gather (farming and being consumers) we still require the same basic needs shelter, food, water, medicine etc.
Good and evil are subjective. Dictated by society, religion, and our own moral compass. They are human concepts invented to keep people in line and to distinguish between what we feel is right and what we feel is wrong.
Sin was created to measure supposed levels of evil. This was important in religion to decide who goes to Heaven or Hell. (2 other manmade concepts). Others think that sin is a natural part of us. it is an intangible measure of out righteousness or evil!
This debate is about whether humans animals. According to science they are definately animals and definately primates. Others may have ideas that we are some kind of super species exempt from the rules of science and created by a higher power. Either way lets here your views and open up some interesting argument. By the way I am an atheist, but as a good debater I sometimes debate on the opposite side of my beliefs or opinions just as someone on a college debate team may be asked to do. The measure of a truly great debater in not always convincing people or swaying them to something you truly believe in but doing that for something your not!
