What I understand:


We're trying to pass a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a congress that hasn't read it but exempts themselves from it, to be signed by a President that also is exempt from it, hasn't read it and who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke.


And now for my question:


What the hell could possibly go wrong?

When we look at the lives we live there is a question that always comes up; what purpose have I served? This question has been on the core issue of the founding of religions and the creations of dynasties. This question always makes a big assumption, though, that life has a meaning in the first place. This is why I bring you here today; not to debate about petty politics or religion but of a much more substantial question --Do our lives serve a purpose?. The universe is so large (around 92 trillion trillion miles wide) and is unimaginably empty that any influences we have are mitigated to nothing on the universal scale. Our measurements of success don't apply outside of Earth; and Earth isn't going to be around forever, nor does it have an impact on the universe. We are nothing but a speck of sand on a speck of sand; how  can our lives serve a bigger picture under that pretense? 

Everybody knows the famous Pavlov experiment with his dogs, where he associated the sound of a bell to feeding time and after a little training could measure an increase in saliva production (from the dog:) even though there was no food to instigate it, but just the sound of the bell.

I am often embarrased for people when they are obviously retorting something somone they look up to said - and have the feeling that they do not hold these opinions because the actually read up on the matter, but rather that they just took a poll from a sparse group og friends and family, and base their vision of complex matters in such childish ways.

I often wonder how big a percentage of people get their political views in the same way they get their religious views; that is, being brainwashed as a child.  My guess is a pretty high percentage

 "In God we trust" is on our money. Senators and Congressmen begin their sessions with a prayer. The pledge of allegiance has "One nation under God" in it. The United States was formed with God in mind.  

To clearify this debate I am addressing only the orginal Constitution of the United States and its founding fathers.  What their intentions were.

In 1993, President Bill Clinton attempted to remove the long-standing ban on gays in the US military, resulting in a compromise known as "Don’t ask, don’t tell" - one that achieved such currency in US society that politicians routinely campaign as "don’t ask, don’t tell" candidates.

I've changed 1 word in the debate title (**Evolutionists** to **people**) to hopefully discourage discussions about the meaning of words and help people focus on the topic. 

Basically extinction is as natural to existence as death is to life.  That being the case, shouldn't we just let endangered species die out instead of trying to save them?  I mean there's a good reason why they're endangered right?

The webcam has truly brought people closer to each other. With stuff like Skype or Youtube, communicating to people via a video interface has never been easier, plus there's no price at all! What I'm trying to ask is what would your opinon be on CD with the option of posting your argument through your webcam. How would you implement it? How popular would it be?

In the United States there is no Federal Seat Belt law, there are only state level laws. So the question is should they interfer with your personal choice. Every time you sit in a car without a seatbelt you could die or become seriously injured. its a consequence, does the federal government have the right do add another consequence and get rid of personal choice. Whats next you can't talk publicly to anyone, 1984 much. 

What actually controls we do?  Do we do what we want to or do we do that which makes us popular?

A week ago, I'd have disagreed.

A common response is that legalizing these drugs will end the underground market, which will lower the prices - reducing associated crime.

Soldiers during the Vietnam War were heavily addicted to some of these drugs. They say that the cause of the addiction was the cheap and widespread availability in Vietnam and neighboring countries.

Such drugs have well-known side-effects. Many will argue that people have a right to do with their body what they will - but these drugs take over the mind, which make users a danger to others.

A lawyer could easily argue that, seeing how the drug was legal and his client was well within his rights to use such a dangerous substance, the client was not guilty - indeed, that the law is at fault.

Others argue about taxes - how it will raise revenue.

My response is this: Does it really matter about the money? When did the American people sell their souls and become so greedy as to accept such a monstrosity.

Should it be lowerd, i think yes as long as they were protection!

Remember, I want everybody to 'play devil's advocate' on this one.

Using your research about Puerto Rico, its history, and its status as a Commonwealth, debate whether Puerto Rico should be considered a state.

Why doesn't the Caucasian Burglar University, the Stalker-Rapist Technical School or the Institute for Pychopathic Murderers  just teach these guys to wear ear plugs. Or denim shirts?

The term "Separation of Church and State" is from the Federalist Papers not the constitution or any law in the United States, yet every one on this site tosses it around like it is the law of the land! Is it simply to further your argument or do people really not understand the context in which it was used?
