Winning Position: Cats!
This is my cat on the left. His name is Tang.
I prefer cats because they are less domesticated and more independant. I generally have a crazy lifestyle and live in apartments, cats seem to live nicely in my habitat where a dog would be unhappy. Nothing against dogs but they are just not for me. I am a cat person.
What animal fits in your life? Why?
Winning Position: American intersections!

American intersections!
So it's 7:15am this morning and I'm driving around this asinine british invention called the roundabout. Why do we have this? Because I get there, the thing is packed as fuck and everyone is waiting to go around the stupid little circle. When you get to this ridiculous thing there is always a person or two that is just driving around and around. It makes no sense to start using these retarded traffic nightmares in the U.S. If British people want to be weird and backwards we should certainly let them, we Americans have gotten along fine with the intersection for over 100 years and I think we should keep them.

Winning Position: Judas is too smart
So, welcome to my new debate. I'm looking to pick a fight here.
Someone here is much smarter than me. If you know who this is, send them a private message urging them to debate me. I'm looking for the best createdebate has to offer and I expect to end up looking like an idiot. Who wants to put Judas in his place?
The terms:
The topic must be from this list but I will argue for the side of your choosing.

2. Abortion, Pro-life vs. Pro-choice
3. Drugs, personal liberties vs. public safety
4. War, non-interventionism vs. policing the world
5. Gay marriage, pro vs. con

Why are you such an ass?
I read a sad thing on createdebate today. I think we all need to pitch in and do something about it.
Apparently, nummi doesn't own a dictionary and it's causing him some problems in his life. The sad thing is, he likes to call himself an atheist, but due to his lack of reference materials he does not know what an "atheist" is. I was thinking, all the charitable folks here could pitch in like 5 bucks for nummi's new dictionary. He really seems to need one.
Please call 1(800) ATHEIST with those donation pledges. Our friendly operators are standing by. It's all for a good cause folks!
If you need a sad story to read, here is the thread about nummi's diction troubles. People not understanding the belief system that they themselves subscribe to, that makes me sad :(

We love Ismaila, be nice
Can somebody please tell me that? She is really being a pain in my ass today. I'm just trying to drop some logic on her, and all I get is banned from her debate. I mean wtf, how am I suppose to pick apart her silly arguments if I can't express myself? I call shinanigans on that.
What do you think?
Winning Position: Agnosticism is more logical
52
Agnosticism is more logical
50
Atheism is more logical
I am not an atheist, let me start out by saying that. Besides being the holy leader of the Church of Judas, I am agnostic. This thread is a call to all atheists. Agnosticism is more logical than atheism. It's time to convert. A few things to consider,
The universe is an extraordinary place to live and there are nothing but possibilities here. In this place we live, it is possible to distort time and travel through it. There are black holes that inhale suns bigger than our entire solar system. There are wormholes that can move matter from one side of the universe to the other. We are organisms that have evolved into these primates with big brains that have learned to make fire, grow food, build cities, and create economies and industry. Now we are in the process of linking every human on the planet together through an electronic network. We are smashing particles together and detecting strings and other dimensions on top of our known 3 dimensions of space. We can peer into other galaxies and see what was going on millions of years ago through our telescopes. We are genetically creating organisms from scratch now.
All of this accumulated knowledge, gained over so many years, barely scratches the surface of what there is to know. Over the entire scope of human history, science is a brand new thing. 200 years ago if you wanted to see a picture of something, you had to draw it. Now we have robots roaming around the surface of mars.
Due to all this evidence of how unpredictable and extraordinary the universe that we live in really is, I think it's a mistake to say that anything is impossible, even a creator. No one knows what is possible and what is not, that being the case I believe it is more logical to call myself an agnostic. You know, 100 years ago people knew that space travel was impossible. 500 years ago, invisible germs that made make us sick were impossible. Let's not pretend that we are so smart as to know what is possible and what is not. Use your logic, join the church of I-don't-know.
Winning Position: That's preposterous

Winning Position: Damn right they should

No, we shouldn't have to pay
I wonder why our society gives this one particular field a pass when it comes to taxes. Should we?
The Mormon Church for example brings in about 4.7 billion dollars a year, completely free of taxes. The profit margins in the faith business are staggering. While our government is going bankrupt, churches are making more than ever, completely free of tax.
People use our public streets to get to church and donate those billions. The grid that chuches use for power and water and sewer, was all paid for by the public. Why should they not have to pay into that system that allows them to pull in billions of dollars a year?
I think the religious community should take a tiny fraction of thier billions of dollars in profits every year, and just pay thier fair share like everyone else.
Winning Position: This story is retarded

'tis the almighty word of God!
According to the good book, after Adam and Eve named all of the animals on the entire planet, Noah then builds an ark, (with instructions from god) that saves every species of animal we see today from the great flood.
How did Noah save the freshwater fish? Did Noah build aquariums on the ark? If he didn't, then freshwater fish like trout would die when the earth was flooded with saltwater. There are millions of species of animals, plants, freshwater fish, insects, and fungi that live all over the planet and require a veriety of very specific climates to survive. Did Noah build the heating system nessesary to keep cacti species dry and hot while water was flooding the earth? Did Noah build unique habitats for millions of different species?
Remember that Noah lived in the bronze age. Now does it make more sense that Noah did all that, or does it make more sense that this might be a silly story that didn't actually happen? Any thoughts?
Sidenote:
How did north american grizzly bears get to the ark? How did austrailian kangaroos get to the ark?
It's friday!

"This whole idea that the whole Muslim world is responsible for this and they’re attacking us because we’re free and prosperous, that is just not true. Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda have been explicit…and they wrote and said that “we attacked America because you had bases on our holy land in Saudi Arabia, you do not give Palestinians fair treatment and you have been bombing – I didn’t say that. I’m trying to get you to understand what the motive was behind the bombing – At the same time we had been bombing and killing hundreds of thousands of Iraqis for ten years. Would you be annoyed? If you’re not annoyed then there’s some problem." -Ron Paul

I want to open up a debate about marijuana use and its relation to debate websites. Marijuana turns me into a super genius, it's just a simple fact. If more of you createdebate users smoked weed we could have a higher level of discourse here.
Smoking marijuana causes:
*Increased creativity
*A relaxed, level headed demeanor
*Intellectual flexibility
*Intense focus
= Super genius debating powers
Winning Position: God lies!
The first statements from god to adam and eve were lies.
"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." Gen 2:17 KJV
"And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." Gen 3:4-5 KJV
We all know the story. Then they ate the fruit, became aware of good and evil, and were banished from the garden. In gen 5:5 it says that adam lived to be 930 years old.
So god lied, satan told the truth. God tried to keep us as his pets, satan freed us.
What is genesis suppose to teach us, that god lies?

Unfortuantely there is no cure for gingervitis, but it is a serious problem that affects all of our lives. People afflicted with this common condition are unable to survive in the sunlight, and are said to be without a soul or spirit. Some people diagnosed with this condition have red hair but do not have pale skin and frekles. These individuals are called "daywalkers".
However, there is some debate in the philisophical and religious communities as to whether a soul is present in these individuals. What do you think?

Winning Position: Save the earth from the humans

Save the earth from the humans
I have a controversial idea about the environment and how we humans fit into this picture.
I'd like to talk about easter island as a microcosm for the world we live in. On this little island the civilization of the Rapanui people rose and fell. When they arrived on the island it was blanketed in lush rainforest and by the 1600's, there was not a tree left standing and the island. The careless logging done there inevitably put their civilization into a decline because so much of their culture was based on using the trees that were there. This also trapped them on the island due to the fact that boats are made from wood, of which they had none.
Please read the short column linked below for more details.
Column
The general moral of the story is that unsustainable environmental practices in a finite system does not make sense, and I agree. The implication is that those Rapanui should have lived sustainably and not cut down so many damn trees.
The twist is that this is not a finite system. If the Rapanui people had put their lumber into more practical things like maritime technologies, they would still be around today. There was much more lumber available if they had made their priority getting off easter island instead of building giant statues for social/religious reasons. If only technology had been their priority....
Do you all realize that the recent 850 billion dollar bank bailout is greater than the entire 50 year budget of NASA? This is an embarrassment. Our society cares more about banks than they do science and progress.
As we reproduce, pollute and use this earths resources at record rates, NASA, the only hope for humanity ever getting off this planet, remains ridiculously underfunded.
This system is not finite! There are potentially billions of earth like planets in this galaxy alone. We need to get our heads out of our asses and find a way to get there. The goal of environmentalism shouldn't be to sustain this planet, exactly as it is, forever. That is silly. The goal of environmentalism should be to use resources wisely. We don't need this planet to last forever, but we do need to make sure that the resources here get used to find more resources elsewhere.
We're living on a dying planet. Lets not be like the Rapanui and get trapped on our shitty little rock because we were unwise with our resources.

No, lets all be friends
"It’s a sad thing to not have friends, but it is even sadder not to have enemies"
- Ernesto Guevara
I really like the allies/enemies option. I've noticed that some users here like to keep thier enemies category empty and only have friends and hostiles. I think that is a mistake. These options help us keep things clear and I think people should use them. Adding someone to your enemies list does not make you lifelong rivals that means you will one day end up sword fighting to the death or some shit. All it means is that you disagree, which should be okay with everyone.
(Anyone that doesn't like what I'm saying here, please add me to your enemies list right away)

Nah..You wanna go curling, ay?
Two hundred years ago the English conquered French Canada by force of arms, and sadly, they've been England's bitch ever since.
Up until 1982 Canada and it's citizens literally belonged to the royal crown. Before that date the queen and British parliament had final say on all affairs within Canada's border. Even today the queen is their symbolic leader and her image is printed on all Canadian currency.
I find it sad that poor Canada never did grow a pair and declare full independence for themselves. It must be embarrassing to give up all sovereignty and national pride to some crusty old lady on the other side of the planet.
Still today, 200 years after the conquest, French-Canadian functionaries of the government of Quebec and the government of Ottawa must swear allegiance to the Queen of England if they want to obtain employment.
The employees of Radio Canada or the National Film Board must swear allegiance to the Queen of England.
All members of the armed forces must swear allegiance to the Queen of England
So what's it going to be Canada? Are you always going to be the queen's polite little slaves? Don't you think it's time to take a break from all the curling and hockey and drinking Molsen and finally write your declaration of independence? Don't you think it's time to put on the big boy pants and be a nation of your own?
Winning Position: Do you believe in magic?
19
Do you believe in magic?
This is the scary reality of living in the United States; people are superstitious and backward. What makes America a breeding ground for people that believe in things that have no evidence?
America is more religious than most industrialized countries, perhaps that is a lead. If people believe in zombie Jesus' and holy ghosts and spirits and devils and whatnot, the things above really aren't a stretch at all. Maybe when our society grows out of the religion thing these other silly notions will go too.
What do you believe?

Adam and Eve? Noah's ark? Jonah and the Whale?Could it have actually happened? Do facts actually matter? Tune in to this lively debate for answers to all your spirtual questions. Did Jesus die on the cross for our immortal souls, did Moses really free the Hebrews from Ramses? Is Darwin, evolution, and survival of the fittest all a big liberal conspiracy? Is science trying to cover up what we all know to be true with irrelevant 'facts'.Join us today for a special debate. Judas is here giving us his take on the famous best-seller. The religious and non-religious alike are all encouraged to post thier opinions.
It's fun for all ages, girls and boys!
We'll be talking about the necessity of scientific evidence in faith, religious impact upon society, and the historic value of oral traditions.
There's going to be giant arks, talking snakes, and dead people coming back to life. Come and read about the deadly plauges, racial genocide and worldwide catastrophes! It's got everything. Don't miss it folks!
Liberals show great compassion when spending other peoples money, I think that can't be disputed. But why are they such heartless bastards when it comes to speading thier own money?
Op-Ed columnist for the New York Times,(one of the most liberal newspapers in the U.S.) Nicholas Kristof, writes "Liberals show tremendous compassion in pushing for generous government spending to help the neediest people at home and abroad. Yet when it comes to individual contributions to charitable causes, liberals are cheapskates. "
Arthur Brooks, the author of a book on donors to charity, “Who Really Cares,” cites data that households headed by conservatives give 30 percent more to charity than households headed by liberals.
A new study produced by the Chronicle of Philanthropy shows that 14 out of the top 20 states in charitable giving are red, or Republican states, while 12 of the bottom 15 are blue, or Democrat states.
“The eight states that ranked highest in The Chronicle's analysis voted for John McCain in the last presidential contest while the seven lowest-ranking states supported Barack Obama.” writes the Chronicle.
The study also found that the more religious states- which also happen to be more Republican- tend to give more than the less religious states
So what do you think? Why are liberals so cold hearted and conservatives so kind and generous?

Winning Position: The religious problem
121
The religious problem
Does anyone really believe religion is a good thing anymore?
We're trying to have a civilization here and there is a bunch of crazys blowing people up for allah and speaking in tongues and trying to teach our kids to hate each other. To me that's a problem.
Religion teaches violence and hate. The god of the Bible is a sexist, racist, violent, jealous, tyrant. Religion teaches hate for homosexuals, other races, women, for the infidel, pretty much anyone that is not like the leaders of that church. Mormons teach their kids that black people can go to heaven, but only as servants for white people. Some Muslims teach their kids that killing infidels is their ticket to heaven. Catholics are raping little kids right now and being shuffled around and protected by the church so they can keep on raping little kids.
So we're all trying to have a civilization here and live together, and you religious folks are lying to people, blowing people up and raping little kids. That's the problem.
