Well duh of course the Drumpf considers them a terrorist group because that's the only thing he knows how to do, point fingers and call people names and blame. The bumbling idiot can't even show his face to the country right now because even he knows he's royally screwed. I think the true terrorist group most dangerous to the country is the far right white supremacists. AKA Team MAGA. AKA their cousins are their siblings. AKA missing a few chromosomes... and teeth.

He should get life without parole and throw away the key. Fuck the death penalty. Make him live with his terrible choices for the rest of his life. And put him in a jail with lots of black inmates too to really mess with him.

Oh my god yeah social media has a left wing bias. Because the number one demographic online are young people. And we realized that when we exchange ideas with each other, we tend to open up our minds more and become more empathetic, less xenophobic and angry. I think the right wing needs to take a moment to put themselves in other people's shoes and stop listening to Trump's hateful and racist rhetoric. History remembers who chose Hitler's side and history will remember who stood by Trump as well.

The video is clear. The man is begging for his life gasping for air with labored respirations and a raspy voice. His hands are behind his back already in handcuffs and he is face down being held down by 3 strong men, one of whom has likely the majority of his body weight on his neck. Multiple bystanders ask the officer to stop. When Floyd stops breathing, they plead with the officers to check his pulse and let him breath. This goes on for minutes until they lift his limp lifeless body onto the stretcher.

Now maybe a layperson might be naive enough to put their weight on someone's neck in an effort to subdue them. But police officers are supposed to be trained in basic first aid and CPR as well. That whole team should have identified that the "threat" was under control and that he needed medical attention. And keep in mind this is a course you need to renew every 2 years. He kept his knee on this man's neck after he stopped breathing and they didn't do anything to help him. This leaves one of two options: either the officers were all undertrained and not really equipped to work in the field, or there was some personal desire behind his actions. Those officers did not look at those black people as equals. Had this been a white person, the chain of events never would have led to the same outcome and we all know that.

I think a big part of it comes down to pride. It's a very American thing to be Proud to be an American TM. And with pride comes complacency in oneself, almost cockiness. Believing in yourself so much that you ignore the negative aspects because it doesn't fit your image. So many Americans have the belief that this country is the best in the world and if you're the best, then you're clearly the smartest. It's delusional.

Another big issue is greed. The top 1% own a disproportionate amount of wealth in the country, among the highest in the first world. So many Americans live in or near poverty and it's truly sad. When you're having trouble putting food on the table, it's hard to prioritize studying or helping your child study. And come time to finish high school, or even sooner, it's time to get to work. Not to mention that this whole imbalance of power makes the government easily swayed by the elite, who want to keep the status quo the way it is by underfunding education and ignoring the student loan crisis.

Absolutely. Every single case and every single death is being reported so we're all hypervigilant about it. If the news reported every case of the flu, they'd need to run a channel 24/7 reading names out continuously. Sure, the medical community should be concerned about COVID-19. We should seek to reduce transmission, search for a vaccine, and optimize supportive care for affected patients.

But as for the general public? Treat this as you would the flu- since most of you don't get vaccinated anyway. Wash your hands. Properly. And stay away from sick and febrile people like you normally would. Cover your cough and sneeze. And try zinc, it's good for viruses. Vitamin C doesn't do anything.

Not everyone is meant to go to college. Some people just are not intellectual enough and that's okay! We need people to still do manual labor and service jobs- and they cannot all be filled with teenagers. My mom actually worked in a poor school district that prioritized getting as many of their kids into college as possible. As virtuous as this sounds, many ended up failing out after 1 or 2 semesters. Some people are meant to not go to college.

I do agree wealth inequality is one of the most important topics about this upcoming election. It's really abhorrent that multi-billionaires can openly flaunt their wealth when we have millions of Americans who struggle to put dinner on the table, people who ration out their insulin to save money, and parents who work 2 or 3 jobs just to support their families. I am glad that most of the Democratic candidates have decided to place wealth inequality as one of their top priorities to address if elected.

You are talking about a huge group of people who have literally abandoned facts, journalism and even science. It cannot be reasoned with, it cannot be appeased and it cannot be negotiated with.

You do make a good point lol, but I do stand by the belief that those people will only become more vocal if Trump loses (honestly regardless of who beats him though).

I believe it's a bit asinine to attribute the economy of a country of 300+ million people to any specific presidency. Yes, a president can have a lot of influence about economic policies, taxes, tariffs, trade, etc. But a capitalist economy is affected by so much more as well. We are 3 years in now, we cannot put 100% of the blame for anything on Obama anymore, that's irresponsible.

Well gender and sex are two different things. Babies are born with a sex (Male/Female/Intersex), they are not born with a gender. You may raise them with a specific gender, as most babies are. But that does not mean they're born with it inherently. It develops.

I am worried about this election cycle. I will say I never have supported and never will support the Trump presidency. I think he stands for just about everything I disagree with and I believe he sows discordance in our country between the right and the left. He tears us apart rather than bringing us together.

But Bernie is not the answer. He is far too reactionary to a Trump presidency. Yes, his supporters are extremely vocal, but they're not the ones who worry me. I am worried if Bernie gets elected. I'm worried because his policies go a bit too far and are too radical at this time. They're a bit too fantastical and lofty. And the worst part is that Trump's base is not going to accept a Bernie presidency without a fight. They won their voice with Trump and learned it was okay to be openly racist, homophobic, sexist, and xenophobic again. That's not going to go away if Bernie is elected, it will intensify.

I truly wish we could elect a moderate. Someone to bring the country together again and focus on realistic goals and policies, not pipe dreams and magical wishes.

Learn to read... I never specifically mentioned Christians. I said the religious right. That can refer to ANY religion. I would feel the same toward any religious person telling other people how to live their lives.

2 points

I think the religious right should be offered therapy... no actually mandated therapy. Jesus taught us to LOVE our neighbor. He dined with sinners and prostitutes. You are practicing the opposite of his teachings.

It's funny you say that you think they should belong in a mental hospital, because I think that religious nut-jobs who think that everyone else should live their lives according to their religious beliefs should be locked up in a psych ward. Why does it affect you so much if someone else identifies as trans? Why do you care? They're not telling you to change your life, they're just trying to live.

First off, sex and gender are not the same thing. Sex is your genetic makeup and what genitals you have, gender is how you behave in society.

Second, as much as it is true that your SEX is decided at conception, even sex can be somewhat variable. There is such a thing as hermaphroditism where someone is born with genitals that are actually indeterminate, not quite a penis but not quite a vagina. Many of these people are raised as one gender so as to not confuse them as children. There are even people born with XY chromosomes (should be male) but appear anatomically female because of a lack of certain genes on the Y chromosome that dictate production of male genitalia. So it's really not as simple as just "god decides" unfortunately.

1 point

Gender and sex are different things. Sex is what you are born as. It's what your chromosomes dictate and it's what we would find in your pants. Gender is a social construct about what it means to be a man or woman and how society believes you should act. Getting a mani/pedi is a "womanly" thing to do and driving a big pickup truck offroad is a "manly" thing to do.

Just because you were born with XX chromosomes and have a vagina doesn't mean you can't do manly things. You're entitled to do whatever you want to do and live your life however you want to live it.

The vast majority of cases are still centered in China. According to the WHO, there are about 83,600 confirmed cases globally as of 02/28/2020. Almost 79,000 of them are in China alone (94%), showing that the virus has not spread very far from China as many people have feared. Speaking from a mortality standpoint, I have seen mortality rates documented anywhere from 1-2%, with some sources specifically reporting a comparable mortality rate for the flu at 0.01%.

Now, these numbers may scare come people, but I truly believe they're being blown way out of proportion and much of the the fear of this virus is being exacerbated by the media. By comparison, the CDC estimates that from October 2019 through February 22, 2020, there have been anywhere from 32-45 million flu cases in the US, of which 14-21 million have sought medical care. They estimate that there have been 18,000 to 46,000 deaths related to the flu in this time period, showing a mortality rate as high as 0.001%. Clearly, although the flu has a relatively low mortality rate, it has a much larger impact on public health in general as it affects a much larger amount of people and does also kill a larger amount of people as well.

COVID-19, on the other hand, has not proven itself to be as ubiquitous as we have been led to believe. The mortality rate being documented at 1-2% I believe is a falsely elevated number. Just like pretty much any upper respiratory virus, many people may contract it and show minimal or no symptoms. Many others, especially in the US with our expensive and difficult to access healthcare system, may choose to not seek treatment and, thus, are not counted in the active cases globally. The documented mortality rate only factors in two things- the number of people who have died (numerator) and the number of documented cases (denominator). I can all but guarantee that the true number of cases is much higher than the number of confirmed cases (because who goes to the doctor when you're young, healthy, and have a runny nose and a cough?). This would indicate a much lower mortality rate than reported.

I truly believe that we are dealing with a slightly beefier version of the common cold, somewhat akin to when we had the SARS outbreak (also a coronavirus), the MERS scare, bird flu, swine flu, etc. Yes, some people who are immunocompromised or have major comorbidities will die. But they could just as easily have died from the influenza virus. Or sepsis. Or a different strain of virus altogether. I really think the fear mongering needs to end because once this virus scare finally passes and we look back on things, we will realize just how much we overreacted emotionally.

So they donate some money to groups that are affiliated with anti-LGBT initiatives... The amount they donate is so insignificant to the fight for/against the LGBT community. And the $5 sandwich I buy is certainly not going to make a huge difference. Personally I don't go there because I do disagree with them, but whatever, let them do what they want with their money.

The true abomination is being closed on Sunday when I'm hungover and just want some good fried chicken...

We've got a republican led Senate. And the majority leader has come out saying unabashedly that he'll support and even collude with Trump's legal team regardless of the facts. The likelihood of Trump being removed from office from this impeachment is about just as likely as Trump saying sorry and resigning from office. Zero percent chance.

1 point

Yes. If someone votes for a politician whose sole platform is about killing off a minority, then YES that person is indirectly culpable for the end result. Should they necessarily be punished for it? Probably not (depending on level of involvement).

Hitler killing Jews and various other minorities is unequivocal to any form of abortion. This is a worrisome comparison as one example takes millions of people regardless of their character and tortures and kills them simply due to their religious affiliation. The other example is deeply personal. Abortions are performed every day on nonviable fetuses, women who have to decide between paying rent and having a baby, women who have been raped (even by their fathers, their brothers, etc). Shame on you for even thinking of comparing the two.

The only way this is an issue is if he is officially removed from office, by the Senate, after election season kicks off. This is unlikely given that the articles were just delivered and formal impeachment proceedings are about to start. Unlikely for them to last 10 months.

And that's beside the fact good ole Mitch is gonna defend his boi regardless of the facts and evidence... so big orange boi isn't even going to be removed at the end of the day. -_-

They're mutually exclusive. The key to being a truly moral person is the practice of empathy. Put yourself in someone else's shoes. You are much less likely to do wrong if you think in that way.
