Why would anyone want some material that is a reminder of his own defeat? "Yeah, here's my medal. 20th out of 20. I'm so proud of myself. Good times, good times..."
Ignorance is worse, because stupidity speaks for itself when people act being better than they are. Apathy is a way of caring, really, but I don't expect ignorant people to understand.
