Dude,
You might be interested in reading my message to paralogical. I've experienced the same issues as kuk, and to be honest it pretty much makes me feel like not bothering with this site any more. Is there anyway to identify who did it and remedy the situation?
Ad.
Hey man I'm out of the office for a few days, do you mind shooting a message to paralogical about this?
Oh no. I'm back.
Do you debate challanges work properly? I tried to create one a while ago, and it never really worked properly. The other person got the invite but couldn't actually post on the debate, and niether could I. Now, TheBoss tried to have a challange with me, but whenever I click on the "New Debate Challange" link, it says the debate has been deleted. It still shows on his created debates though. Something a bit funny with it if you ask me.
Adam.
Me again with more bugs for you!
I noticed on the stats page for one of the debates: http:// www.createdebate.com/ debate/stats/ With_The_Existence_Of_An_ Omniscient_God_Do_We_ Really_have_Free_Will
the pie chart colouring for Side Scores is wrong. Looks like the grey and the blue have been mixed up.
Cheers, Ad.
The problem is that you don't get to give any information about why you're reporting it. For example, I might want to say that "I'm reporting this because it's clearly just a link, rather than an actual debate on the subject." Ah well. Cheers.
There is a report button for debates. You will see it when you are browsing for debates. If you think a debate is lame, use it and it will be reviewed.
Hey dude,
Do you think it would be a good idea to have some kind of way to mark a debate as spam, or to give a description along with your report for a debate? It's just that recently a lot of people have been posting articles and websites without any real debate about it. This site is for debating, not for user driven news content. I would like some way to actually say "hey, this isn't actually a debate... this is spam."
What do you think?
Adam.
Hey dude.
I saw your exchange with waaykuul and I would like to second being able to see who voted up or down on your arguments. That would be fantastic, and encourage people to back up their reasons for voting.
Adam.
Hey,
That's awesome. That's kinda what I was going for, a way for him to section off private debates. If not just because of the way it would upset the balance of the site, but also because it might not be appropriate for people, like, say, Jesus or Chicken, to start writing posts on a debate that we KNOW kids will be reading. If you know what I mean?
Anyway, cheers for your speedy reply.
Hey Xaeon,
Yup, he's a teacher. To the contrary, we're very much in support of teacher's using this site and he's not the first. I mean he is getting hundreds of kids involved in critical thinking and debate. I think its great. We are, however, baking some new features (i.e. team pages, private debates) that will make it possible for people to use the site in this manner without being a distraction.
Hey dude,
I just wanted to bring your attention to a user called bmountain. After going through some of his debates, and the way he is labelling them with periods, I think the guy is using this site for teaching his class. Not sure if you guys would actually have any problems with that, but it just seems to be a bit of a misuse of the site in my opinion. only in the context that this is a public website, and using it as a basis for his teaching might not be a great idea.
Let me know what you think.
Cheers, Adam.
Hey,
Thanks for that info. I literally noticed that about ten minutes before your reply to me. :-P Always the way, huh? That's why the site seemed to be broken. Anyway, good stuff.
Cheers,
Adam.
Hey Adam,
Really the only thing that has changed is the default category is now Politics (this will change back after November 4th). To return to the CD that you know and love, just click the "All Topics" tab on the Debates sub-menu. All of the sorting still works to my knowledge.
Let me know if this helps!
Alright dude. How's it going?
I've come back from being away for a few weeks and the site seems a bit... broken. New Activity isn't displaying the newest activity. Recent isn't displaying newly created debates, etc. Is everything going okay or are there some issues? Also, you should introduce some way for people to hide all of the election stuff, as being from the UK, local elections don't interest me at all. I feel that subject could put a lot of potential non-US users from joining and using the site.
Cheers,
Adam.
Yo bro, like I said, I tweaked the algorithms a bit. Most provacative and most persuasive changed kind of dramatically, I know. It's actually better now though. It will work itself out over time.
Hey dude.
I think you guys have broken some of the people categories, as they are displaying completely different results than a few days ago. Could you check it out?
Cheers,
Adam.
PS - Submit your site suggestions through the contact us form. Believe me, we read and discuss every submission. If the idea is killer we do our best to get it implemented.
Hey Xaeon,
Funny that you should ask because I just tweaked the algorithms a bit last night. Now, I can't give away all of the secret sauce but here's a few hints:
Most Outspoken: number of arguments posted
Most Creative: number of debates created
Most Provocative: how many people vote for your arguments
Most Persuasive: how many people like your arguments
The cool part about the people categories is the Activity Period filter. Whenever you change the period, the rankings are determined on-the-fly. Everyday I check to see who's tops for the day.
Oh, also, I have some great ideas about the site. Where would be the best place to direct these?
Hey dude, would you be able to take a few minutes to explain the algorithms used to calculate each "peoples" category? I'm interested in what factors are taken into account for each section.
Cheers,
Adam.
Good stuff. It was actually JoeCavalry's debate orginally but he had malformed characters in the debate title. I was waiting for him to repost it but unfortunately he didn't, so I felt I should post it as it is something that I am quite interested in. Especially as GWB recently passed a law to pardon himself from any future war crimes or torture tribunerals. That's just unbelievable.
You should create a debate about one of your band's songs...see what people think.
Become my ally and then cut down my argument with a better, more accurate one. I see how it is!
