Hey Joe, not a bad idea...I'll throw it out to the rest of the CD peeps. We really didn't launch the site until April though, so the 1 year anniversary is still a ways off.

Hey, have you guys thought about "the year in review" edition of CD? Have people vote for best debate, argument, whatever. Or show the debate with the most points, or arguments or whatever. Is there a way to sort your H2O fall?

Hey, how are those points on the home page (on the right hand side) calculated? Is it just up votes minus down votes?

In a 2 sided debate, there is really 2 scores that are being tracked. There are the tag scores (shown on the right) and the side scores.

I noticed that if you are for one side but find an argument for the other side that you think is a good argument so you favor it but still tag your argument for your original side, then the otherside gets the point. Shouldn't the tag determine where the point goes? Just a thought. Thanks.

Hmm, you know, there is not...thanks for pointing that out. In the Moderator Panel there is a new section for debate tags though. You may find that using those will help your debates be found through search...especially when you see some of the new stuff we'll be rolling out soon. I think you'll likey.

Say, if I put a debate in the wrong category, is there a way to move it to right category?

Loudacris said:

Haha, sounds reasonable but reallocating points is not in-play. FYI - we implemented a voting rate limiter earlier this week to prevent future karma-bombing so hopefully it will pass.

I was wondering if I can give some of my points to Kukla. I really don't need them and it might make her feel better. Unless the system is prone to glitches (like screwing up the down votes or tagging an argument with the wrong picture), I think that (at the risk of inviting the wrath of the masses upon me) Kukla may be right about what happened to her (even though I don't agree with her approach/tactics). I mean, I like bashing liberals but not clubbing them. I'm a kindler, gentler jerk than your average joe ;)

Is this something you can arrange?

That's a good idea, Joe. We have started talking about that kind of thing a lot around here lately. I'll let you know when we figure out what the plan will be. Thanks for the feedback!

Hey Loudacris, I don't know the state of the town hall meeting but a thought occurred to me about the voting thing and I thought I'd run it by you (BTW, some one else may have thought of this already.). What if people have only one vote per debate? The idea is that hopefully people would use it to vote up the best argument in the debate. The arguments with the most votes rise up and the arguments with the least votes move down. People new to a debate will have the best arguments for that debate right at the top. As people refine their arguments, the votes can be redistributed by the people. In other words, you can move your vote from one argument to another. Just a thought.

Hey, lets see if we can get your Matt Damon, Sarah Palin debate to reach "most arguments" or "most votes." I'm having fun out there ;)

You know what Joe, that is the best point you've made on this site so far. I reverted to the old algorithm while we take a closer look at how the most persuasive and most provocative sorting works.

Hey, the top 10 provocative people have not logged on in over 100 days. Is this what you guys intended?

Yep, that was a CD bug. Its fixed now, thanks for the head's up.

Hi Loudacris, I either did something wrong or there's a bug in the code. I can't get to:

Bush; guilty of war crimes?

it seems that it doesn't like the semicolon

So..., do i get some kind of prize for breaking 1000? I could use a hand/finger message (I've got typist cramps :). I'd even settle for a glass of water and a bathroom break :)

Those are tags scores not tag counts. Calculated using the same formula as side scores. Vote and you'll see them change.

joecavalry said:

Hey, there appears to be a problem with the tag counter. I count three for Xaeon and three for me but the counter says 4 Xaeon and 0 for me.

Thanks. When I started out I had to find the boundaries. Now I just try to stay on the edge ;)

PS - Once we unleash the argument tagging feature set that we've whipped up, lists will become a central part of the site. Stay tuned, hopefully it will be ready to drop sometime this week.

I was just thinking that maybe instead of "number of votes" for two sided arguments, a better measure may be percentage. Or better yet, display both.

Hey Loudacris... "Ha...." is old school. You're dating yourself ;) Come to think of it, so am I for knowing that it's old school. New school is LOL. Kids!

BTW, I may be guilty of a lot of things but I don't flame. I don't call people names and I don't attack them without being provoked. Just wanted to set the record straight.

Hey Loudacris, you must have a tough job. I mean, first you have to hear from people whining about other people then the other person is like, "Hey, he started it!" and finally you have to lay down the law and say, "Don't make me turn this site around! You two better start playing nice or else!" That's comedy man ;)

Hey Loudacris, am I helping or hurting your site? I've been told I'm being destructive. That was not my intent.

Hey Lauraome, what am I winning? I've never won a thing in my life and I got all excited ;)

joecavalry said:

ok. I'll back off. I know, I came on strong. It just bugs me that for all this talk about tolerance, there's so little of it. After all this talk about "Hey I'm participating in a real debate and I'm presenting a real argument" it degrades to name calling.

Alright Joe...calm down man. I know that Sparsely called you a name but no need to harass. Just use the enemy button and move on.

The report button can be used to report inappropriate debates, comments and users. The idea is to have the community police the site for spam.

Hey Joe, you can delete the duplicate debate through the Moderator Panel, which can be accessed when you are looking at the debate (in the blue submenu bar).

Its the summation of most debates created. Lame debates (ones that never became popular or have very few arguments) are not included.
