Hey Xaeon, I looked into the "karma bomb" problem and reversed the huge number of downvotes you got. We also put in a system that checks when people rate an argument if the ratings look like a rating bomb. This change should make attacks like the one you saw not work in the future.

I never said you did... you said on chicken's debates you extend a challenge... and I accepted the challenge. The thing I said about it was because you probably would have taken it the wrong way.
The challenge I posted is not hostile... just wanted to see your views and see if I can't win it... I don't "convert" people or even ask people for their religions....

Sounds good to me. I am glad that you find this as enjoyable as I do. This site has tremendous potential to become a great place to discuss big ideas...or it could easily degenerate into yet another site to insult people. I choose the former.

I've actually noticed this is in more than one debate, so I guess when fixing the last bug you accidently stopped tags being displayed along with the argument.

Hey dude,
Got another bug for you. Joe's debate "This is a great argument against genetic engineering." is currently showing a tag on the right hand side that no one has actually added to their arguments. Not sure whether it's incorrectly showing the tag, or the argument is incorrectly not showing the tag. Either way, something has gone wrong.

What do you think about banning people completely from debates? Do you use the feature? I haven't, and I have never had an issue w/ it but some person has recently banned me from a debate... one that I feel I should be able to say something in, concerning votes and whatnot.

There is a report button for debates. You will see it when you are browsing for debates. If you think a debate is lame, use it and it will be reviewed.

Yup, he's a teacher. To the contrary, we're very much in support of teacher's using this site and he's not the first. I mean he is getting hundreds of kids involved in critical thinking and debate. I think its great. We are, however, baking some new features (i.e. team pages, private debates) that will make it possible for people to use the site in this manner without being a distraction.

Really the only thing that has changed is the default category is now Politics (this will change back after November 4th). To return to the CD that you know and love, just click the "All Topics" tab on the Debates sub-menu. All of the sorting still works to my knowledge.

But that is not entirely true. When we go to battle with another country for one man or a group of people, that entire country is within our jurisdiction, not the international laws. You might say that the rules of warefare prohibit that. Am I right? But in all truth, we do it anyways.
But that has created conflicts with other countries in the past. Haven't we created international laws/agreements that solved that?

Yo bro, like I said, I tweaked the algorithms a bit. Most provacative and most persuasive changed kind of dramatically, I know. It's actually better now though. It will work itself out over time.

Funny that you should ask because I just tweaked the algorithms a bit last night. Now, I can't give away all of the secret sauce but here's a few hints:
Most Outspoken: number of arguments posted
Most Creative: number of debates created
Most Provocative: how many people vote for your arguments
Most Persuasive: how many people like your arguments
The cool part about the people categories is the Activity Period filter. Whenever you change the period, the rankings are determined on-the-fly. Everyday I check to see who's tops for the day.

The true reasons for terrorism (like those expressed by their leaders) are rarely treated as plausible for the reason that it kinda-sorta insinuates America caused it, which is of course misleading. America caused it in the same way a woman dressed promiscuously caused her own rape. She should not be blamed, however, as she has the right to dress how she wants, and even if she didn't that doesn't give a man the right to rape her.
Also poverty is larger ignored, probably more from shame than anything -- that is, the too little aid from America and other nations, both from the government and private charity. Another less signifigant reason is misconception. In "The End of Poverty" Sachs quotes from a survey showing most Americans believe America is already donating 20% of its tax revenue (it is infact closer to 0.1) thus creating skepticism when someone says there is too little aid.

Non religious? lol. no matter how non religious you are, you still are religious in some sense. that is my view on the topic. because even when you are not praying formally, whenever you are asking for something mentally or just hoping some outcome will occur, which most people do on a daily basis, you are praying. which is being religious. lol. xD
