In response to your very vague question "2012: real or fake?", I can assure you the answer is real. First off, I added a colon to your question for clarity's sake. No that we see this, I will assume you are asking whether or not 2012 is a real number or a fake number. I speak the truth when I say it is not only a real number, but a rational number, an integer, a whole number, and a natural number.

You see, all natural numbers (basically all positive counting numbers starting at 1) are also whole numbers (the set of natural numbers including 0). And all whole numbers are integers (the set of all numbers without a decimal. i.e. {...-2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, .....}). All integers are rational numbers, which are numbers where the decimal is finite- it ends. The opposite would be an irrational number, like pi. Pi is approximated to 3.14 or 22/7, but in reality never ends. And finally, all rational numbers (and irrational numbers as well) are real numbers. QED. ;)

As a side note, please do not downvote this argument if you feel it is off topic. My point was that your question was ambiguous and when making debates, you should be weary about your grammar (and spelling, which is good for this debate). I just felt like having some fun after an all-nighter. :p

i am 37-Twice i have believed and set out to witness "The End",Twice now i will have ignored this claim of "The End"and just gone about my business. That means-Four times now in 37 years i have heard that "The End" is here/coming."2012"real or fake?.me say fake...THAT aside, when one takes into account the ferocity of nature,it would be rediculous to assume that OUR planet is exempt from destruction. One only needs to look at the universe to see that the death of a planet is in fact possible. Our planet itself has indeed already gone through some rather eventful make-overs. My oppinion is that-While OUR Planet Earth spins, at any point of time, (No set date is possible),nature, not man, will cause a sudden jerk,(not a 180degree rotation),literally, upon its motion, and everything on the earth will become ONE, literally, smeared togeather, as it has done so before, and then hopefully ,as it has done before,it will regenerate (and new species human or not may evolve and some day peel back a few layers to find OUR fossils)or it will become ,hopefully not, extinct, thus allowing the hot lava core to smoulder to the very surface, and turn OUR Earth into just another fossil in the universe. THE END - dacey.nov.2009:)........................ took me over an hour to type this up.

Of course the destruction of a planet is possible; it probably happens almost every time a star goes nova. The question at hand is whether there is any reason to believe that it will happen to our planet in 2012.

While OUR Planet Earth spins, at any point of time, (No set date is possible),nature, not man, will cause a sudden jerk,(not a 180degree rotation),literally, upon its motion, and everything on the earth will become ONE, literally, smeared togeather, as it has done so before,

Do you have a citation for the claim that the Earth has stopped moving and "smeared together", because that would seem to defy everything we know about the physical world.

oh BEEP off you nit picking kill-joy.yes i read and understood the question. and i BLEEPING answered it . and then went on to add my own lil oppinion on it all..everything we know?....what about wat we dont know? .I NEVER said i was right but go ahead PROVE im wrong you master debater. AND HOW CAN WE ASSUME WE KNOW EVERY THING ABOUT THE PHYSICAL WORLD.......is there a limit to what we can know? that is my reason in itself for how, yes, it MAY be possible. im sorry im below you and you cant comprehend my simple explanation....

I think something will indeed happen, but I doubt it will be the end of the human race. I'm leaning towards the fall of a civilization, possibly a world power.

The Bible says something will happen in (Daniel 8:11-14) says, the anti-christ will exalt himself and take away the daily sacrifice, out from Jerusalem. He will cast the truth to the ground and practice witchcraft and will prosper. In verse 14, it says that it will continue until two thousand and three hundred days. When those days are up it says the sanctuary will be cleansed. I take that to mean the Temple of God will be rebuilt in Jerusalem. Also, it shares in (Daniel 9:25-27) that number of days shall be when the Messiah is to be cut off. It is told now that Christ has been cut off for two thousand plus years now. Or shall I say Christ has risen Two thousand plus years ago. I don't totally understand the way the calendar worked back then but I know the Bible says in (2 Peter 3:8), "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the LORD as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."

So if nothing happens on 2012 will you get over yourself and put your book of lies into a fire?

Side: Fake
1 point

There's probably going to be something similiar to that, but not the end of the world. It is possible for the sun to erupt a chain of fire very far into space suddenly. The heat could possibily melt Earth's inner core, making every layer above it(Outer Core, Lower Mantle, Upper Mantle, Asthenoshpere, and Lithosphere) unstable, causing the plates to drift in different directions at remarkably fast speeds.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that it's real.

This is an assertion that is born completely ignorant of any facts regarding the subject matter. I've not heard or read or been told anything regarding the year 2012. The reason I'm saying that it's real is this: In a game of chances, which I think this is, you have a chance of being right one time if you've got enough chances. So while it doesn't cost me any money to make this bet, I'm gonna bet that it's real! Why didn't I bet on the "fake" side? Because the result is not nearly as dramatic...

As far as I can tell this scare is almost exactly like the Y2K scare, that is the calendar approaches a pivotal number and people freak out because they worry that the system is going to crash. What makes this more ridiculous than Y2K is that people are fearing the end of the world because the Mayan calendar, which hasn't been used for centuries, is about to start over its long-cycle. Essentially it's exactly the same as flipping to Jan 1 on your desk calendar on New Years Eve.

This is a tough one.

I believe that 2012 will exist (in the sense that any interval of time can be said to exist), so I'm tempted to call it "Real", but at the same time I get the distinct impression that you're really asking about the various supposed doomsday scenarios that are supposed to occur, which I certainly don't anticipate (as a result of my tendency not to believe in things for which there is absolutely no evidence).

Also, the answer-options don't match the question, which seems to pre-suppose that 2012 (or, more likely, the 2012 doomsday events) is (are) either a conspiracy or true, but which fails to account for the possibility that it (they) will be just like any other year (aren't going to happen).

Bullshit.

First 666 then this thing then that thing.. soo many times manking was supposed to be destroyed. If it happens, we'll see it long time before it does.

Side: Fake

I think it's real fake but if it does happen, it would make a believer out of me ;)

Side: Fake

I think we interpret things too literally. Could the Mayans have possibly meant that an enlightenment is coming, as opposed to a cataclysmic destrustion of all mankind? When the Bible says "end of days"... could it possibly mean "end of days as we know it?"

a⋅poc⋅a⋅lypse  /əˈpɒkəlɪps/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [uh-pok-uh-lips]

1. a prophetic revelation, esp. concerning a cataclysm in which the forces of good permanently triumph over the forces of evil.

2. any revelation or prophecy.

hmmm... strange.

I believe an age of enlightenment is coming... not a doomsday shananigan everybody makes it out to be. I dont know if it will be god sent or not though. It could very well come from us... maybe we will realize mans true potential (which I believe is infinite). Who knows... I do find it kind of interesting that almost every organized religion believes an age of enlightenment is coming soon. Dont believe me... look up ANY religion. Is it out of mans intuition that this is so... or does almost every religion recieve revelation from God? Maybe an argument can be made that the kingdom of God is in all of us? I find it hard to believe that it is a mere coincidence that such a large portion of religions believe this.

People have said the world would end in... many people belived it when people said that in the year 2000 the world would end. it did't, or else we wouldn't be writing here :). so no. i don't think the world will end in 2012. i could post something on you tube or i could make a movie saying the world will end in 2010. people make movies like that to get money. so people that believe in it will think "oh, I better find out how this will heappen to protect myself and my family!" it works with some people.

I think it's fake. There have been a lot of predictions about the end of the world and obviously were still here. 2012 is a prediction made by people WAY long ago. They didn't have good enough technology so i don't even know HOW they could have predicted that. There are so many theories to 2012 that i don't know which one to believe. If it WAS real then everyone would be saying the same thing about how we would die. I've heard stuff about a planet colliding, big big meteor shower, solar flares, record breaking volcanoes and earthquakes, and even alien invading. Why are there so many theories? BECAUSE IT IS FAKE!

Side: Fake

I personally think that this is another event simmilar to Y2K....we all know how that ended up. On another point, I believe that humans would destroy the Earth before it destroyed itself, or was destroyed by an object from space. So for all of you that believe somone or something can predict a precise time and date for an event such as the world coming to an end is not thinking from a scientific point of view. I will NOT believe in such things with out any scientific evidence!!!!EVER!!!!

Side: Fake

This is so fake I'm a christian so I don't know about you. In the Bible Jesus says "No Man Knows The Day When The Son Of Man Is Coming Back". I this is fake because in 2000 some people thought that the computers were going to go crazy but, they didn't. So I know where the person that made this up is going when he dies and its not a good place either unless he repents for their great sin.

Just to make a pointer, some people believe that 2012 is due to global warming but earth's already been through a global warming phase, and survived obviously. So if 2012 was caused by something like someone decided to invent a humongous bomb that year and explode it at that particular time then I'm not sure. I'd like to believe that it's not happening just as Y2K didn't happen.

Oh and just a note, Nostradamus predicted this. He also predicted WWI and WWII and the twin tower bombings and stuff.

sorry, but there just isn't enough SCIENTIFIC evidence that some apocalypse

is gonna happen in 2012! if you dont think by the Bible or your religion, there is no way in science knowledge that this can even happen.
