The use of technology helps prevent suffering and prolong lives of man and it has blessed us with many medical benefits. Development of new drugs and vaccines and allows us to be immune to more diseases, like small pox and cervical cancer. Oppositions may say that there is misuse of technology for the sake of beauty and has claimed many lives in the process. Some alter their god-given looks through plastic surgery and this may be deemed as meddling with what god gave us. This has raised the ethical hackles of the more conservative groups. For example, there are 48527 deaths due to liposuction in New York City, between 1933 and 1998. However, this only takes up a small proportion as the use of technology has brought about more benefits, for example key-hole surgery results in less attendant damage to surrounding tissues, thus making the surgery more precise and brings about a faster healing process. Evidently, the use of technology has brought about more benefits than detriments in the field of medical science.

I agree that the use of technology brings about more benefits than detriments, as it played a large role in decreasing the number of people suffering from hunger and is the first step in alleviating stravation worldwide. For example, the Green Revolution has bought about many improvements in the growth of crops, as well as increase productivity. This significantly reduced the number of people who died from hunger. A new type of grain, the IR57, was developed by cross breeding different types of grain. IR57 grain is know as "super rice", as it is resistent to many types of diseases, as well as matures in 100 days, compared to the 130 days for an average grain to grow. Use of chemicals like fertilisers and herbicides also kept crops healthy and prevent it from being destroyed by pests. Advanced irrigation systems also ensured that the crops have ample supply of water. Through all these advancements in technology bought about by the green revolution, the output of crops is increased. Beacuse of this, cases of people suffering from starvation and malnutrition is reduced, especially in African nations.

Technology can be said to have driven globalisation on its own. Economically, socially and with regards to research and development, technology has been used by people all over the world for business, trade and communication. In recent years, one major use of technology that must be credited is for businesses, trading, cooperation and connecting across borders. It is a movement that is not only environmentally friendly, but saves time(convenience). People no longer need to travel around the world to speak to each other face to face. Instead, they can now do so through platforms such as Skype and Oovoo. They allow companies to capture and share globally based information quickly and efficiently. In fact, because of such developments, Forrester’s forecasts of business-to-consumer e-commerce over in 2003—a rise from $8 billion to $108 billion was viewed to be substantial then, but has since been proven to be modest. However, at the same time we also see an increase in domincance of developed countries in our markets because they are technologically savvy. In the 1980s, when Ronald Reagan passed Immigration Reform and restricted the supply of cheap illegal alien labor, manufacturers and service industries closed their US factories and call centers and moved them to India and China. This is still occuring today. Ultimately, technology is still beneficial because regardless of the inequalities and inequities, it has brought about an overall improvement and progression of societies as a whole. The advancement of technology is not backward but instead can only move forward to greater improvmenet. Technology has forever changed the way people conduct business, especially where the flow of information is concerned.

Technology allows us to have better standard of living. In developing countries, introduction of new medicine due to technology has increased the general life expectantcy. Recently, a potential cure for AIDS has been discovered. Timothy Brown, was the first person to have been cured of AIDS. Previously, anyone who has been tested HIV-positive would mean certain death. Due to improvement of technology and hardwork of scientists, a cure has been found for AIDS. This means that many lives would be saved by this cure. With better healthcare, the general public would benefit from it.

With the advancement of technology, we have made history in several fields, more notably in the field of healthcare and medicine. Over centuries, technology has vastly reduced the mortality rate due to illnesses such as malaria and measles, both of which are known to have killed millions. For example, by engaging scientists, Bill Gates proved the point that technology can save millions with little, or no cost at all. He was able to develop a vaccine for measles at only 20 cents per dose, down from $6; a great achievement which could not have been possible without the use of technology.

Technology has lead to the development of nuclear weapons. Although nuclear technology was orignally developed in 1896 by Henri Becquerel, Pierre Curie and Marie Curie for the benefit of mankind in the form of nuclear power and medicine, it was also instead harnessed for mass destruction. Nuclear weapons have caused loss of thousands of lives and psychological trauma for many others. The most well-known use of nuclear weapons is during World War Two where the United States detonated two atomic bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. As the use of destructive power of such nuclear technology has harmed society, it is a detriment to the society.

I hereby disagree with this statement, this is because research shows that technology like computer and television has caused mental retardation, illness or even death, as referred to the Taiwan case.

Some people may get hooked up on television the whole time, causing their increase in eyesight and lack of physical activity. This are also the causes of obesity in youngsters nOwadays.

Technology has even caused death to a boy in Taiwan.

He was playing a computer game for 47 hours to beat the worlds record of 52.20 hours without stop. His parents called to him and he did not answer, not soon after he was pronounced xx( due to over exhaustion.

This proves hat technology brings more detriments than good
