Some people become sick or disabled through no fault of their own. Without government assistance, they would suffer greatly.

In my case, my younger brother was born disabled, with Lesch Nyhan Disease, which causes him to bite his own fingers and lips if unrestrained. Without money from the government, both for paying for equipment and for hiring caregivers, the 24-hour care he currently needs would rest solely on me and my family members.

Even with that assistance, it is a hard job caring for him. Without it, it would be much worse.

If most people are the biggest burden to the system in the last year and month of life, why don't hospitals just have some kind of panal of experts to determine when the clock begins for your last year? After they decide that, they don't waste money trying to save you.

They could be called a Life Panel...

Hello A:

That's certainly where we're headed. Why don't we make it like a reality show??? The winner gets MEDICINE, and the losers get thrown off the island.. The ratings would be YUGE!

We could call it The Hunger Games... Oh... That's right..

I suppose that according to this analysis, under a completely free market system (with lower costs increased innovation), the poor have a better quality of death experience. Only the rich would be subjected to that painful last year and a month where they keep trying to live.

I like to take the side of needy people but the fact is, mathematically, we cannot sustain the system we have in place now. We just can't.

Jump to the discussion right before and in the conclusion in that link. We've shifted around some of these burdens and now we're in a system dramatically different than 50 years ago. That's not to say I long for life 50 years ago. Health coverage had some bad issues even back then. And it's not to say I'm ready to cut the needy loose. I just want to acknowledge something has to be done and we're probably not going to like whatever that happens to be.

Obamacare, despite the issues people had with it, was at least an attempt to do something to shore this up. It wasn't perfect but it was a real attempt. Alas, it appears the Republican alternative to it is simply going to be cut cut cut. It's actually going to be harsher and more painful and more unpopular to the USA masses overall than Obamacare was.

Excon you mean to tell me 5% of the people are spending 50% of your VA benefits. Clarification from the ex vet might explain an insane accusation.

Hello DB:

In my debate, there are some blue letters that spells the word HERE... Take your little mouse clicker, and CLICK on that blue word, and the magic of the internet will TAKE you to my sources.. The source I used for this post is from Forbes.com.. He's a pretty right wing fellow. It's fine with me if you don't believe him OR me, for that matter..

But, I DO like you following me around like a little puppy dog.. Makes me feel all warm and wanted.
