People expect too much from medical science due to the over-reliance of the public on medical science to the point that they become complacent. It is acceptable and right for the public to rely on medical science to treat and prevent major illnesses such as strokes and terminal diseases by going for vaccinations and regular check-ups, however, there are certain illnesses that can be prevented on our own, like diabetes and cough, which can be prevented by consuming less sugary food and managing our lifestyles. With that said, people expect way too much from medical science as they are increasingly dependent on it and rely on it to cure and prevent illnesses without putting in the effort to amend their lifestyles. One example would be how all of the gains in terms of technology in reducing heart disease deaths are taken for granted as the Americans don't address some of the underlying causes first, such as a poor diet and sedentary lifestyle, and just rely on taking the drugs to prevent heart diseases. Although exercise is one of the top prevention strategies for heart disease, an estimated 60% of American adults are sedentary and about one in five is obese. As such, people failed to realize that without addressing the root causes of health problems, the effects of all the vaccinations and drugs would be limited. Hence, people are expecting too much from medical science due to the over-reliance on it.

The ability of medical science to cure infections using antibiotics has led to a sense of complacency in antibiotic administration from the assumption that its misuse has no severe ramifications. We find that individuals all around the world have began overusing antibiotics with the expectation of it being the primary defence against infections leading to a rise in superbugs, deadly antibiotic resistant bacteria. There is a consistent undertone of properly utilising antibiotics because the population at large always assumes science to come up with new classes of antibiotics to replace those that do not work on resistant bacteria. In many countries, loose laws have allowed for the abuse of antibiotics amongst individuals such as in Thailand where no proper prescription is needed for antibiotic acquisition. Even in the agricultural sector, the government has been complacent in curbing antibiotic use amongst animals because they assume scientists will provide a safety net for resolution, proliferating the rise of dangerous superbugs amongst domesticated animals. On the individual level even despite regulation and education on antibiotic use, people continuously misuse antibiotics allowing for growing antibiotic resistance because they believe there will always be an alternative. Thus this shows how people from all classes place too much hope that science will be able to deal with antibiotic resistance on a whole, thus continuously misusing this drug.

There is no doubt that antibiotics have been both, misused and overused.

However as bacteria evolves and develops resistance to this miracle drug in it's present state, so shall medical science continue to advance and unroll new generations of antibiotics which will overcome the so called 'superbugs'.

Science is on the brink of announcing a major breakthrough in the discovery of a whole new generation of antibiotics which destroys today's 'superbugs by literally ripping them apart by brute force.

Today's superbugs issue decoy flares, ( just as fighter jets do to avoid missiles), to make it more difficult for antibiotic drugs to find their target. The development of the new drugs will allow for this and employ counter measures.

The struggle will go on between the ever mutating bugs and medical science, but we have every reason to believe that mankind's ingenuity will stay ahead.

complacency is a consequence of the expectations so explanation is extremely necessary to link the keyword to the idea of complacency. If you don't deal with the keyword using direct synonyms or the exact word you have to explain the indirect synonym and how it links to the question.

Also draw the line on where the idea of medical science is limited to.

explain the assumption when you list it out and show why the assumption is false.

how people don't consider the time factor and resource factor when scientists try to find new classes of antibiotics

At its heart, the reason for the excessively high expectations for medical science and the successes of the field are one and the same: human ambition. As long as humans look toward a better standard of living, there will never come a day when we decide that medical science has done enough; humans will always seek to improve it. However, it is only with great success that one can have even greater ambitions. Perhaps a century or two ago it would have been a big deal to survive the common cold. Yet today, long after surviving the cold has no longer become an issue, research still goes on to make cures work faster, better and more efficiently, and it will not stop until the cold goes in the way of tuberculosis and smallpox (ie, completely eradicated). It is this tenacity hardwired within the human psyche that pushes medical science in an inexorably upward trajectory. And the further it advances, the more humans expect from it.

You are convincing in explaining the value of having high - even insatiable - expectations. But because such expectations do lead to the achievements we hope to see (and more !), wouldn't they NOT be 'too much' ?

Various aspects of medical science in aesthetic and elective surgery have progressed to unprecedented levels, encouraging many individuals to utilize such procedures excessively in search of physical perfection. In Korea, many teenagers turn to surgery as a way of coming to age, and the quality of the surgeries are outstanding. However, this has caused People to have become blinded by the outcome, and will turn to cheaper alternatives, as they believe that all aesthetic surgery is the same. Some would even excessively turn to it, which led to results that have no return. Too much expectation from medical science happens when people heavily relied on it to help them better themselves, even willing to take the risk that may cause the dire results.

we know we expect too much from medical science when we expect all procedures to have the same quality outcomes. Poorer person who tries to use the botox procedure.

People are expecting too much from medical sciences because many medical treatment or discoveries have been made and found over the past few years due to advancement in technology, so people are demanding more from medical science, up to the point where people reproach and blame medical researchers if certain treatments for diseases are not found in time. As we now live in a world where the medical field is so advance, people tend to be complacent, thinking that treatments or medicines can be discovered and made on the spot. One example is the cure for cancer. People have been expecting a cure for cancer for years and one criticism towards the medical science field is the question on why cures for other diseases can be found but not cancer. Little do they realize that it takes time and funding for the research team to be able to correctly identify the cause of the illness and come up with a solution. This shows that as because of the generally high success rates in finding antibiotics for most diseases, people take them for granted and expect more and more from the field of medical science. Hence, people are indeed expecting too much from medical science because of the advances of medical science.

one reason why people expect too much of medical science is because a large majority do not understand the limitations of medical science due to their lack of education. it is only logical to assume that not all diseases can be accurately diagnosed or treated, however, recent successes have blinded a large majority to that logic. there are many reasons why most people are not educated in the field of medical science and hence are unaware of its limitations, to name a one, a large number of people do not have the mental capacity to understand a subject as knowledge based as medical science. in light of the huge successes and breakthroughs in medical science, people would think that there this no end to the long list of possibilities brought about by medical science, when in actual fact, they could not be further from the truth. to someone who doesnt understand the field and why they were able to achieve success in the first place it is only natural to expect more, even if it is beyond what is reasonable.

People expect too much from medical science due to the high success rates and the improvement of lives of large number of people it has brought about. Therefore, people will start to expect more and more, thinking that medical science will always be readily available for them anytime and anywhere. However, there is a limit to what medical science can do and not all are constantly available. In clinics, medicine runs out and there might be insufficient doctor as such, people might not be able to obtain treatments everytime they want it due to lack of resources. Therefore, people are expecting way too much and over estimating the amount of medical science that the society have.

People expects too much of medical science in today's world as there are overly optimistic and high expectations of medical science that undoubtedly results in an over-usage of health care services such over-diagnosis of certain illnesses.

As the advancement of medical science is rapid and vast, it is capable of curing many diseases and thus people are more hopeful, yet at the same time, it is being overused such as over-diagnosis of many patients. It is reported that hypertension is being over-treated in people with mild cases of the disease and more than half of the patients with mild hypertension are treated with blood-pressuring medicines despite an unproven research of such drug has any correlation to cardiovascular-related disease. Many researchers argue that these practices are unnecessary and require a huge amount of funding from the government. Hence, due to the over-expectations of the current medical science, it may result in unnecessary additional diagnosis which may incur a greater opportunity cost on the government budget.

Furthermore, many people with a mild cough or flu will immediately seek medical attention. However, these minor symptoms can be easily cured by home made remedies or seeking medical advice from nearby pharmacists. With more people seeking doctors for a minor illness that could be easily recovered from, it delays the timing for people with more severe symptoms and issues and deters them from seeking medical help as soon as possible. Thus, people are seeing the doctors for illnesses that can be recovered even without the help of doctors, thus it is evident that not only doctors but patients both have high expectations of medical science such that they are making excessive use of it when they can make do without.

People want medicine to work perfectly with zero side effects, and the doctors who administer it to be infallible. And the paranoia that the industry is covering up vaccines causing autism or hiding the cure for cancer is astounding. Since when do bloggers spamming facebook know more about reality than the professionals in research and medicine?

Hey, I'll agree with the consensus of the world that big business wants to make its buck and that they often stick it to the little guy. And I'll agree the US healthcare industry needs an overhaul. And I'll agree when they make serious errors they should have to pay.

But, enough with the baldfaced lies and hysteria. Vaccines/autism link has been thoroughly and convincingly disproven. And the idea that the people in power, who get inflicted with and die from cancer just like the rest of us, are suppressing or hiding a cure is absurd.

People expect too much of medical science as the the advances in medical science have successfully cured many diseases that was incurable in the past. For example, small pox, a disease which have took millions of life, have been eradicated with vaccines in the 20th century when they were known to be incurable in the past. With such successful cases, they expect the advancement of medical science to be able to cure the diseases for them. People take it for granted that almost all diseases can be cured. They start to be less cautious of their surroundings and take their health for granted. For instance, there are some people who are under medication to control their high cholesterol but they still do not change their diet to improve their cholesterol. They may continue to eat food which may harm them. They may have the mentality that the medication will help them do the job of controlling their high cholesterol and expect the medication to do the job for them instead of controlling and changing their diet to a healthier one. Therefore, people expect too much of medical science as they rely heavily on medical science.

There is a limit to how far medical science is able to grow especially in the present just based on present technology and knowledge. The current knowledge and technology only allows medical science to be able to improve up to a certain extent if there are no improvements in technology or if there are no improvements in knowledge due to successful research. For example, even though the Ebola virus has outbreak for quite some time, there is still no successful cure being manufactured to help cure people who caught this disease. There is a need to conduct experiments to find a cure for the disease and current knowledge is not enough to help develop a cure for the disease. This shows how medical science is being limited by current knowledge and technology which restricts their growth up till a certain extent. However, people are currently expecting medical science to solve all health problems without a problem. For example, people have unhealthy habits and do not take care of their body as they feel no sense of danger from such actions which is resulted due to them having thoughts suggesting that medical science can solve all health issues. Hence, people are expecting too much out of medical science.

People are not conscious of their physical wellbeing only to a certain extent. This is because in some cases where medical science is not beneficial for them, people lose hope and do not expect much. There is a limitation to how much a person can expect from medical science. This limitation depends on every person's situation. For example, a person fighting cancer may have to wait for a long time before getting any organ transplant. However he can pass away during this process no matter how advanced medical science is. This is because in the current modern world, the cure for cancer is still not found. Furthermore, people suffering from diabetes have to ensure they have a healthy lifestyle so they do not suffer severe medical conditions like kidney failure or eye problems. Hence saying that people expect too much from medical science and hence do not live a healthy lifestyle maybe a generalised statement.

People expect too much of medical science ,due to its huge success, to the point where they think medical science can help regain their healthy functioning condition and subsequently, neglect their healthy life styles. Due to advancements in medical sciences which help cured many diseases like Tuberculosis and shingles, people are complacent and will take the good health for granted. They also have this false perception that when they get vaccine or after entering the operation room, they will be as healthy as before, which is certainly not true. Also, current medical science still couldn't tackle the problem of diabetes, Asthma and cancer. Thus, people expect too much of medical science to the point of compromising one's health as they feel that medical science can solve all their health problems.

With the negative externalities that marijuana bring in today's society, many governments maintain that it should be illegal, despite pressure from some to legalise it for medical use. On one hand, it has therapeutic effects that can aid medical issues. People expect too much from medical science as they are not afraid of falling sick when it does not concern terminal illnesses. In the past, falling sick was a big deal as most of the time, you do not know whether or not you will recover due to lack of skilled doctors that provide accurate diagnoses, as well as the correct medication. Today, falling sick is no big deal as we can simply just take a medical leave, visit the doctor and we would be fine after a few days. However, in reality, medicine has its flaws. For example, as a person consumes an increasing amount of antibiotics, they become less effective as bacteria are able to become increasingly resistant. Even though this is of significant concern, normal people do not find this life-threatening as they do not perceive these flaws. With the negligence of medicinal flaws, it can be concluded the people's expectations of medical science is excessive.

Consequently, people today, are very much dependent on medical science and even expect much more from it. Sad to say, there are still many other diseases and illness that does not have a cure. People expect too much because medical science is a broad field of study and the technological advancement in medical science has no boundaries or limits.

In recent years, significant breakthroughs have been made in the medical science field. For example, in the United States, 1 in 3 surgeries can be expected to be performed by robotic systems, with surgeons sitting at computer consoles guiding mechanical arms. According to the US surgeons, such robots reduce fatigue and give them a greater precision during the surgery. Successes such as this, suggest that there is limitless potential in the advancement of medical science.

As such, since there is much successful advancements in the medical science field, people would expect too much of medical science as they would believe that it would continue to improve significantly, and become omnipotent.

As such, the preconceived notion of always having a cure to any kind of illnesses caused people to take the extra step to find cure from the best doctors all over the world or receive many types of medication, however, there are still many diseases out there that is not curable.

People expect too much from the advancement in medical science to give us a healthy life as many of the diseases can be cured with medicine. People expect medicine to give them a healthy life by treating with medicine or surgery whenever they feel sick. It is right to consume medicine to cure your illness when you are sick but people tend to be over reliance on medical science. However, not all diseases can be cured by medicine and some disease can be prevented by oneself instead of taking medicine to provide a healthy living. For example, even the best drugs currently available cannot weed out HIV from all of its hiding places within the body, according to a new study of HIV patients in the United States. The discovery seems to confirm doctors' suspicions that once the virus gains a foothold, it can never be fully eradicated from the body. however, HIV can be prevented by having less risky sexual intercourse. Therefore, people expect too much and become over reliance on medical science to replace a healthy living but not all the illness can be cured through it.

Medical science has advanced rapidly and raised our positive expectations of it to an unsustainable point. Some highly publicized and profiled incidents of advanced medical intervention such as seperation of conjoined twins or facial recontructions were meant to showcase the exception in medical science in providing help in these forms of areas. However, it has became a concern when the public mistaken it to be a norm and are attracted to do plastic surgery to beautify their physical appearance with the thought that the surgery would save a relationship or resolve long standing personal issue when the realistic expectation of the procedure was just to improve their overall body image and body feature altered. For example, people with body dysmorphic disorder, BDD repeatedly change or examine the offending body part to the point that the obsession interferes with other aspects of their life and majority of them who had plastic surgery do not experience improvement in their BDD symptoms. Hence it can be shown that medical science may lack capability in the field of managing personal issues and that people have been expecting them to do so much with the skills they possess. Therefore, i can say that people now expect too much from medical science as it has always been so successful.

This results in an increasing skepticism towards medical science by patients and even the doctors. For example, in the US, it has been reported that 144 deaths, 1,391 patient injuries and 8,061 device malfunctions related to robotic surgery and many accidents during the surgery also occurred due to the lack of knowledge of the doctors on how to use the machines. GM food however helps to decrease the work load on farmers and hence decreases human effort. Farmers rely on GM food to increase their outputs at a faster rate compared to manually producing the goods. Furtheremore, for less developed countries such as Rwanda and Burundi, they do not have access to the latest medical technologies such as X-Ray machines to kill cancer cells; this explains their high mortality rates. Hence, poor individuals or countries do not expect much since they cannot afford such expensive medical sciences.

Medical science is continuously improving to make what used to be impossible possible. With higher expectations, medical science will bring more success as more people worked harder to research to ensure a better standard of living. For example, recent development on immunotherapy is effective in treating cancer which was previously thought to be impossible to cure. Hence, we are not expecting too much of medical science as it is continously improving to meet our expectations.
