A Marriage Ultimatum

If your fiancé is Jewish and he or she demands that you must convert to Judaism or else there will be no marriage, would you convert or forfeit the marriage?

If you really love him/her, then why not? It's not like you'll die from changing your religion. Chances come once in your life and...well, it's not really that much of a problem.I mean, I believe that there is only one God. It's just that different people with different religion has their own way of calling Him.

What if your own religion means a lot to you? .

Side: Forfeit the Marriage

If she asked me to say Batman was my favorite superhero rather than Iron Man, I would probably do it. They both aren't real and the only consequence is I have to watch Batman movies instead of Iron Man. Pretty much the same logic goes for religion. The only consequence is the book you need to read.

the real consequence is having buckled to someone who does not respect you as a person...

.

that shows poor judgement.

Ultimatums rarely lead to anything good. If my future husband really loved me, he would respect my beliefs.

If you love your husband, you would respect his beliefs. It's not all about you. It's about keeping your relationship.

I would respect his beliefs. He can stay jewish if he wants.

Any ultimatum is like a red rag to a bull for me. I wouldn't have any objection in principle in converting to Judaism but such an ultimatum is a clear indication that the other party gives greater priority to their religion than the relationship. That being the case it would be adios my dear, have a nice life.

i would not marry anyone who gave me an ultimatum... that shows a lack of respect for me as a person... why would i want to have someone like that in my life?
