A Raisin in the Sun Debate

Walter lost all the money.  This is a direct result of his trust in another person.  He has now disappointed his entire family, jeopardized Beneatha's college education, and ruined their chances of moving.  Is it right for him to take Mr. Lindner's community's monetary offer even though he KNOWS they can't move there anyway?

I think Walter should take Mr.Lindner's money because they can't move there anyway and Walter needs to redeem himself for the family. Walter realizes that he made a mistake putting his trust in others and that hes the sole reason why his family is in this situation right now. If Walter accepts the money that means he submits to society but in this situation he needs to get past his ego and do whats right for the family.

I think that it is okay for Walter to go back to Mr. Lindner and ask for the money because they can't pay to move there so if they can't move anymore so why not try and get some money out of not moving so they can get Beanie through collage and be able to pay rent and Walter can start his business to make more money to help the family.

Yes I believe that Walter should try to scam Lindner because he already lost most of his credibility with his family and most importantly Beneatha because he used all of the money instead of pushing some of it towards her college tuition. So by gaining back all of the money he may gain back the respect back from his wife and family members as well as gaining trust with Beneatha back.

Walter is right in this situation because he knows that they cannot complete the payment of the house and Mr. Lindner said that they would get more money then they put down if they make a deal with him. so he made a smart decision even tho they were completely giving into the racist community

yes because they dont want them to move there or even if they cant beney still has a chance to go to college and they have a chance to move somewhere else.

Yes Walter is in the right with this decision because he made a mistake and is just trying to make it up to his family by getting some money back.

i agree with your statement because maybe if he takes the money that whey will get from Mr.linder maybe everyone won´t be as mad at walter

They can get the money and use it towards college. It would be there best option and then they can get bank off of Benetha when she gets a job in the medical field. They can get the money from Linder and not move in the house. Then with the money put it on Bennie and make more money from it.

i think your wrong because it might seem right but it would be on his conscience forever because he stole so much money it wouldn't feel right

Yes but not only that if walter gets the money from Mr.linder he can them give everyone there money back and then it would balance everything out because the money would have been returned to everyone that walter had made lose money! Walter getting the money from Mr.Linder is a great way to get on everyones good side again and show that he can be trusted with the money!!

Ur wrong, because Bennie won't believe he'll give the money to her, and will put another worthless investment on it, and Walter would also be a thief for practically stealing money from the community.

its not anyones fault that Mr Lindner went and said that he would give them extra money then they payed, he is the one who put the idea in there head

Side: Yes

Well you can say that but hopw do you know what he will do? maybe he will see his way and how it played out the last time and how he lost it, so maybe then he will give the money to them for what they need and keep what ever is left over and do what he wants with his share. so i believe walter will give the money to bennie

Side: No

if they are not getting the money back then if they use mr linder for the money they can use that money for a nicer house and have some left over for Walter and Bneathas dream

Side: Yes

I feel that walter should take the money from Mr.Linder because if walter takes the money from mr.linder he can actually take the money and since he messed up and made the whole family upset he can give some of the money back to beneatha and then give some money back to mama and ruth so they can still have some money left over and then it will be like the money never got stolen. Mr.linder offering to give them more money for the house then they paid may seem like a bad deal but its not because if they take the money they get more than they had plus they avoid any trouble from the white people at clybornpark.

That is fraud. I believe in Karma, and doing this will end up coming back to bite him. I totally get the fact that THEY were being racist when offering the money, but it still does not give him the right to scam them. He knows that they can't move now, yet he wants to take the money Mr. Lindner collected. It's the age-old adage that two wrongs don't make a right, and I believe that applies here. Technically, he would be stealing from them.

Fake news. They should accept the money and forgot this ever happened. Mr. Linder was the person who approched them and was very racist. Its a taste of his own medicine since he was in the wrong for even going to there house.

So... just because he was supporting a racial movement by the community, he should be a victim of fraud? How do you justify that? One is racism and one is theft... they are not correlated in any way.

Fake news? what are you? and its not about racism, its about taking the money so don't be ignorant and making dumb accusations that don't go to the debate.

i think that he shouldn't do it because it is not right to take someones money like that. i believe it would be a bad idea because if he found out they weren't gonna live there then he'd be in big trouble.

I disagree because they need the money to survive and to be able to live long enough to have kids.

Okay how do you find this wrong??? this is a great chance for walter to make it up to his family and probe them wrong that he can be trusted with all that money

Side: No

yes i am right because it will get me the big win also walter is dumb for taking the money

Walter hasn't ever done anything right throughout the whole story, and with his actions, he's an unbelievable rat.

Side: No

Because if he wastes the first amount of money on the investment that ended out ruining his life, if the others know he takes the money, they will hate him even more because they'll think Walter will just blow it all again and leave Bennie in the dust not letting her be a doctor, and everyone else won't ever live up to what they could.

Side: No

Yes your are correct. But think about it if he takes the money from Mr.linder and gives everyone back there share of the money maybe the family will look away from walter and leave him alone

There is nothing in the story that tells us Walter would use the money for himself this time. Saying that you THINK he would use his money for himself again is not a valid argument against him not taking Linder's deal.
