A USC Professor tries to ban the term Illegal Immigrants from student essays.

Do you see why Trump got elected? This extremism from the political correct Left is destroying our freedom of speech. How dare professors tell students what they can not say in their essays on exams.

This is the Big Brother thought police I keep talking about. It's truly sickening. It is so arrogant for these Liberals to be censoring speech they deem as not being politically correct.

This Liberal Professor wants his chosen terms of "undocumented immigrants". The arrogance from the Left is hideous and is why so many Americans said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! They spoke out big time in the election.

If you Progressives who always deny supporting such censorship, would ever speak out against this over reach by Liberals, those like myself might actually give you an ounce of respect. But you as always say nothing while the Left tells us all what we can and cannot say.

It's the professors class. If he were to say "use the term mentally challenged instead of the word retard in your essay" would you have the same issue? If he says you can't write an essay in text speak, would you have an issue? His class, his rules.

There's a difference between asking your students to use civil language (the word "retard" is commonly used in a pejorative manner) and demanding the same students don't use specific univocal, descriptive terms.

What's more, dismissing this issue with "his class, his rules" is almost childish in its inappropriateness. The fact that this teacher is teaching a class doesn't mean they possess Orwellian control of their students' words. As a public servant, they have no right to act in any interest other than the public's when serving in an official capacity.

Well said.......................................................................................................

And whining over the semantics of Illegal immigrants vs. undocumented immigrants isn't childish? He isn't demanding that the students use terms that are derogatory or demeaning those under his charge, he is setting up a set of guidelines that the students need to follow. There are things in life that we have to do that we don't necessarily like, but you have to pull up your britches and deal with it. This nonsense of censoring freedom of speech simply because the teacher wants the term undocumented immigrants used is a gross over-exaggeration, we don't all get to say what we want, when we want it and even if we did it's not always without repercussions. The students 'can' use the term they want but they may be penalized for it.

LOL, if he were a Conservative Professor who was censoring Liberal speech, the same people who say his class his rules, would be outraged as always.

Nope. The rule still applies. His class, his rules. Not everyone agree's with everything but we still have to accept that we don't always get to do what we want.

This is pathetic. That professor is an idiot. They are immigrant who came here illegally.

If he were telling people not to be disrespectful to them in their essays or not to call them derogatory terms, that would maybe be understandable considering it is his class. But this type of censoring is plain stupid.

Agree..................................................................................................

I'm hoping in the next 4-8 years the PC brigade will be put in the corner where it belongs. Trump, in part, is a backlash against all the liberal looniness that has infected everything from schools, the media and just about every other aspect of everyday life. It's about time!

This is just as stupid as the Obama regime refusing to say Islamic terrorist! Call it what it is and stop the political correct bullshit!

In support of free speech people should be able to use whatever words they choose to use. Granted, people are still responsible for whatever they say.

How dare professors tell students what they can not say in their essays on exams.

So should students also be allowed to use texting abbreviations in essays as well?

It is so arrogant for these Liberals to be censoring speech they deem as not being politically correct.

But it's ok for you to censor speech that you disagree with?
