"All Order Followers are Bad People"

There are those who make this claim.  The person I have heard say it uses the military and cops as an example.  It is true that "I'm just doing my job" or "I don't make the laws I just enforce them" are not valid excuses.  However, there are those who follow the spirit of the principles for those professions and do it in good faith.  That needs to be recognized.

Also, it is a pretty broad claim because there are other occupations that entail co-operative effort in doing work and there is a person in a leadership role.  Those who follow their lead do so with respect towards set tasks.  In many ways it is the attitude of the one holding that leadership role that makes the difference for the one who carries out tasks at that leaders direction.  It does well to pay attention and stand firm when it becomes necessary to say "No, I will not do that."  And it goes from there.

I have also, heard from some, that "there is no such thing as a good cop."  I do not agree with that.

So, is that statement in the title, true or false?  What say you?

Sometimes it's about the lesser evil, not about good vs evil.

While I do not believe that they are bad people, I think it's very easy to fall into the excuse of "I'm just doing my job" to avoid standing against changes that need to be made and the effort that goes into it or excusing despicable actions by shirking the obligations of morality and casting sole blame on those who gave the orders. At some point "I'm just doing my job" isn't a good excuse.

To avoid anarchy society needs to be regulated.

People need guidelines within to live their lives and to go about their everyday business otherwise such frustrations as traffic being at a permanent standstill, junkies screwing dogs in public, people burying axes in the heads of anyone they don't like the look of, or just want to rob, would be accepted as the norm.

I'd be astounded if you didn't say that such a society would be great.

We the people democratically vote our choice of political candidates into power and they in turn make the laws by which all citizens are required to observe.

The various law enforcement agencies are legally obliged to enforce the laws passed by the democratically elected politicians.

To a greater or lesser extent we're all order followers.

If you work, you will follow the laws/rules of your employer, if you're unemployed you'll follow the laws of survival and observe the protocol of the benefit claims system.

Side: False

False.

If you didn't follow orders you'd be an unruley & disobedient kid to your parents.

Our military & all businesses would fail without order followers.

There'd be no one to serve at bars, restaurants, grocery stores without order followers & there'd be no customer service.

Without order followers you couldn't take a flight, a train ride, or a bus ride.

Without order followers all you'd have are chiefs in the tribe & a power struggle.

Without order followers you'd have no clean water or food to buy. Without order followers, our society would collapse & most people would just die.

But at the same time if your parents gave you orders they would be authoritarians.

The best parents explain things to their kids and the best kids listen.

The best parents explain things to their kids and the best kids listen.

They should only listen if it is good advice--otherwise, they most definitely should disregard/reject their parents explanations

Or parents and teachers. You would have the parent let their toddler run out in the street? You're a dumbass Nom. Dumb...ass...

Most kids aren't "the best". And kids who wind up as "the best" had parents that didn't let toddlers run out in the street.
