Am I a Hypocrite for Celebrating Christmas?

Well, my family is slightly religious... I guess? They never talk about it and don't go to church... ever, but we have always celebrated Christmas but in a very commercial (and greedy) way (I like to get stuff).  There is no talk of Jesus, no manger scene crap... just red and green and a Christmas tree.

Saurbaby- you're not the only one who can 'attention whore'! ;)

Same here. The only reason we celebrate a day (a short period... more than a day?) named Christmas is because there's cake and presents, and family tends to get together at that time. And globally, more or less, it's a time of holidays. Nothing religious about it, not within my family, anyway. And right after that the current year will be blown away.

Just call it Xmas or just a holiday and you won't be a hypocrite. If you don't believe in Christ, then leave him out of it.

You, like many other people, still seem to not understand what hypocrisy is.

a hypocrite tells someone not to do something and then does it themselves for no valid reason.

Unless you say "Celebrating Christmas is a disgusting act," you are not a hypocrite for celebrating Christmas.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... I know that. I didn't say I was a hypocrite. The question is what others think... your argument is exactly correct as I've never said anyone shouldn't celebrate Christmas for any reason.

The Christmas "holy-day" has become genericized, so to speak. No longer is it about remembering the birth and life of Jesus Christ, now it is about getting a day off work and wasting thousands of bucks to give the kids things they most likely could never deserve, and working the rest of the year to pay it off.

Nope, you're not being a hypocrite. As ThePyg described.

You're just American ;)

Oh, and want an attention whore battle? Because I know who will win.

Well, that wouldn't be a fair battle as I don't have boobs!

Lol, you make a valid point. But nothing can be done about them. I'm keeping them :p

Well seen as most of the Christmas traditions are borrowed from other holidays and Jesus was born in the Spring, I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I mean even the Red Santa is a product of Coke advertising campaigns, and Christmas trees are taken from a pagan celebration.

If you follow the Christian traditions, like going to church, rejoicing in the birth of Jesus and the like then yea you're probably being somewhat hypocritical, but hey, who gives a shit.

I got married in a church, because I thought it was a nice tradition, I didn't mean or believe any of the religious shit I promised and had, with my wife, a good laugh at the ridiculousness of the whole thing, plus my mother is a devout Catholic and she'd have Kittens if we didn't have a church wedding, I can't leave her go to the grave worried shitless about the fate of my soul.

Nah. The worst I could accuse you of (although you've already admitted to it) is unabashed commercialism. Christmas for you is merely a modern, celebratory occasion to kick up your heels and pull in the loot. I renamed it for the kids as Santaday.
