America. Another Day, Another Mass Shooting.

A US Marine Corps veteran with suspected mental health issues killed 12 people in a busy bar in California, including a policeman, officials say.

The shooting began at 23:20 local time on Wednesday in Thousand Oaks about 40 miles (65km) north-west of Los Angeles.

At least 200 people were reportedly inside the Borderline Bar and Grill, which was hosting a student line-dancing night.

Police named the suspect as 28-year-old Ian David Long.

America. Another Day, Another Mass Shooting.

The murder rate in London is higher than New York City--and, it is due to an increase in knife attacks/stabbings.

You are the one who is in dire need of a "wake up call".

The murder rate in London is higher than New York City

MathFan, please stop cherry-picking only the information you want to acknowledge. That's extremely dishonest. Read:-

President Trump Targeted London's Knife Crime at the NRA — But London's Murder Rate Is Lower Than Every Big U.S. City's

Dr. Karim Brohi, a trauma surgeon at the Royal London Hospital and the director of London’s major trauma system, also said in a statement Saturday that, while knife violence is a serious issue in London, “to suggest guns are part of the solution is ridiculous. Gunshot wounds are at least twice as lethal as knife injuries and more difficult to repair.”

It is true, however, that London has seen a recent spike in knife-related crimes. Thirty-one of the 47 murders committed in London this year, as of early April, used knives, Reuters reported. That spike in knife violence has led to reports that London’s murder rate now outpaces that of New York City, a city of similar population — and, as Reuters reported, London did see more homicides than New York in both February and March of this year.

But despite the recent spike, the BBC notes that London remains safe compared to American cities. In 2017, London’s murder rate per 100,000 people was 1.2. New York City’s rate was nearly three times higher, at 3.4. Baltimore, the deadliest American city in 2017, had a murder rate more than 45 times higher than London’s, according to FBI data. San Diego, the big city with the lowest murder rate in the U.S., still had 2.2 murders per 100,000 people, according to an analysis from USA Today.

Data also suggests that, while U.K. homicide rates have risen over the past four years, they are still well below rates from decades earlier.

@Hootie

Your country and it's neighbors are rapidly degenerating into Hell and all you can do is scheme about how to get the US (not your country) to get dragged down with you?

Rather cost inefficient, if you ask me. Ammonium nitrate is roughly a buck a pound. God knows what diesel fuel will run you in the golden state these days, but thankfully you only need a 94-6% concentration of the two. For forty bucks he could have left a backpack in the bathroom and wiped the bar and everyone in it off of the map, but he goes and buys a gun. Which not only costs more but can only be used to kill people in one direction at a time.

Of course, let's ignore the fact that once again this happened in a place where people are rendered lawfully unable to practice concealed carry or any other kind of active self preservation. Because obviously, it's the gun's fault. It's the gun we should be scared of, not the violent psychopath behind it. We should uninvent them by legislating them away and punishing lawful owners who have utterly no violent intent; it worked for California. Oh wait, this happened in California? Shit.

Making a bomb (which works) is something which only a small number of people know how to do. Everybody knows how to pull a trigger. Making a bomb is not less complicated than pulling a trigger twelve times.

Making a bomb kills hundreds or thousands. It takes a lot of rounds to equal one strong bomb kill. The libs are using a loop of logic. Guns kill. Ban guns. Knives kill. Ban knifes. Drugs kill, kill, kill. Suddenly the concern disappears. But the children. But the children. Drugs kill? Um. Screw the children. Those immigrants are from Mexico or Africa? But the children. Thos immigrants are from Poland? Screw the kids. Now back to guns.

Tell that to Timothy McVeigh. How did he put it when they executed him again? I think it was something along the lines of "Final score: 168 to one." And he didn't even have this fountain of information at his disposal that we call "the internet". All he had was a copy of the Anarchist Cookbook, which by the way, you can still buy on Amazon.

Or you can tell it to any number of suicide bombers in the middle east. I'm sure they'll lend an attentive ear before laughing you out of the room.

Sure, it requires mass murderers to actually plan out an attack. You want to force them to stop being lazy? You want to render everyone else defenseless?

Go right ahead.

The gun culture was stronger in the past, yet mass shootings were rare. The difference is that people used to fill the hole with Jesus instead of mind and biology altering drugs.

The past is proof that guns aren't the problem. The present is proof that secularism causes people to go to dark places.

There is a psychological need for meaning, so if you have no objective meaning in your life, you will find warped ways to artificially create some.

The argument is that we need more good guys with guns. We have WELL OVER 3,000,000 guns in America, most owned, hopefully, by "good guys". If we get to 6,000,000, one would think we'd REALLY be safe! Not looking that way.

Another argument is that we have too much mental illness in America. Why would WE have MORE than any other country (Well, Trump IS driving many of U.S. crazy. ;-). That aside, the argument doesn't compute!

I really haven't "evolved". I STILL want to keep the Second Amendment, BUT, I want it UPDATED to todays realism! The day it was created was the day of the musket. Things've changed. If we DO have a lot of mental illness, it's concentrated in those who think mental illness IS THE PROBLEM. No, It's that we live in an armed camp where ANYONE can get a gun, ANY gun, and anyone who gets pissed off at anyone for ANYTHING can have a gun in a few minutes, to a few hours and …. relieve his frustrations WITH ENOUGH FIREPOWER TO OVERPOWER even the good guys with guns! The only math that adds up is firepower + availability + anger = DEATH!

Yep. I agree. Funny how that works. I lived through the "truck rack era. We didn't seem to have so much mental health problem. Maybe "racks" are good for you?? (I've seen a few that definitely WERE! ;-)

Then there was the gun-on-the-hip time to consider. That was dumped as too dangerous, uncivilized and unnecessary. We lived MANY years after that (through the "rack years"), with "kinda normal" problems, "kinda normal" gun ownership. Assault weapons were largely unknown, except for the "Tommy Gun", which was illegal. We had pretty normal gun deaths.

Now, here we are. Assault weapons up the ying-yang, automatic handguns with a LOT more firepower than the "trusty six-shooter" of the "hip era", and apparently, much more "mental health problem"?? Back to the math. Maybe we're allergic to high firepower?? Where's Marshal Dillon when we need him! Oh, He didn't carry enough firepower to even be an effective "good guy" today! KEEP the Second! UPDATE IT!

Absolutely brother. According to the Small Arms Survey there are 393 million guns in the United States, so that is way over 3 million. If they are correct, then there are literally more guns than there are people.

So how are you going to disarm the 33,000 known gangs in America? Start there. Then explain how you do a gun grab on 400 million guns, many owned by minorities.

Go ahead.

There is a city in America that has more guns per capita than any other city. They also have one of the lowest crime rates. How does your narrative explain this?

The answer is, he lived in liberal world, the west coast, and with the strictest gun laws in the country, and still killed people with a gun. They should make more laws. I'm sure the bloods will lay down their guns tomorrow, and when the criminals do, I'll lay down mine.

Those 18 year old soldiers are dumb enough to join the military and get shot for economic imperialism. The kids didn't choose to be a pawn of the military industrial complex, they just got shot by nut cases with guns.

Another mass killing done because of mental illness, and all we will hear from the Left is GUNS GUNS GUNS!

Intelligent people ask, why do we have so much more mental illness today?

There were very few mass killings like this decades ago even though we had many guns with few gun regulations!

Why is this culture of drugs creating so many people with mental illness. THAT'S THE QUESTION!

Why does America have SOOO much more "mental illness" that shows itself in gun violence, than any other country in the world?? THAT IS THE QUESTION!

One answer is the "tough guy attitude" we have an epidemic of, like Trump rhetoric, like outlaw rhetoric, like NRA rhetoric, like certain politicians that say "carry a gun to "protect yourself"! I'll defend you if you kill someone who shoves you or listens to loud music, or if s/he is black and armed with Skittles! If you're a couple cops and you see a kid with a toy gun, KILL him and ask questions later! We, the NRA and our politicians will defend you! Don't think TWICE … KILL to "defend yourself"! We defend our laws and we'll defend YOU! (We HAVE to or THEY will change our laws! And the gun lobby will lose money!) Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition! (Hmmm, I used to know that song. It had a different meaning back then.)
