Anarchist or Statist? And Why?

Just curious on what you think is better. And by the way, before you say anarchy is chaos, i'm talking about the concept displayed in the website below

Im the moderator of this debate and personally i'm an anarchist for many reasons.

1. More deaths are caused by government violence than anything else. (Warfare)

2. I think laws are stupid and not necessary.

3. I think politicians are corrupt.

4. I think taxation is theft.

5. I think the court system sucks.

6. I think the road system sucks.

7. I think the education isn't education but just brainwashing.

Without government you'd have chaos, women could be raped in mass and would be, and innocent people would be killed by vigilantes without cause.

Without the system, the roads would either not exist or be much worse.

Education is brainwashing gone mad. I'll give you this one.

The court system sucks but is better than vigilante justice without any due process.

Much of taxation is theft, but not all of it. Some of it is necessary to maintain the basics.

Politicians are corrupt. I'll give you a point on that one.

We'd have wars with or without government. Armies, alliances, and enemies would still form.

1. More deaths are caused by government violence than anything else. (Warfare)

Does it not prevent death as well by providing public sanitation, diplomacy in some instances, ect? Also youre arguing about anarchy and statism as general concepts but this argument seems to be based on current existing states and you seem to be clearly pointing to the US, Russia, ect.

My counterargument would be Switzerland. They havent fought a war in who knows how long. They rate very high on peace and happiness indecies.

2. I think laws are stupid and not necessary.

All laws are unnecessary? So abolish murder as being against the law?

Im sure youd say no of course not. But then didnt you just recreate that law?

3. I think politicians are corrupt.

Super overgeneralized. See answer to #1. Its a really bold claim to say ALL politicians are inherently corrupt. Or even MOST politicians are. And if you can concede that even some politicians have the capacity to be non-corrupt public servants then you concede the possibility that a state could exist without a corrupt government. Which renders this entire premise obsolete.

4. I think taxation is theft.

Taxation without representation could be akin to theft. But even then it isnt really theft. Taxes are spent often on things that directly benefit the people. Theft implies you lose that money and dont get it back in any way. But taxes go to roads you use, public sanitation you benefit from, post office you rely on, ect. You get a return for that money taken. Its really a transaction in that sense. You are purchasing services from the government. And if you have represenation you even get to vote and decide how that money is spent. Its not like in theft you get to call up the guy who robbed you and tell him what to use that money on.

Taxes are a necessary fascet of 21st century society. Its the cost of living in society.

5. I think the court system sucks.

Our court system has its shortcomings but its a hell of a lot better than a lot of other places. This isnt really an argument against statism generally but the US state specifically.

6. I think the road system sucks.

See above

7. I think the education isn't education but just brainwashing.

Id ask you to support that with some evidence. But again this is an argument against a specific state not statism itself. If you can conceive of a state in which the education system is perfect than you almost concede this entire point to statism. what education would exist at all in anarchy?

Which leads me to my final question which is, how are each of these things corrected or improved by anarchy?

1. More deaths are caused by government violence than anything else. (Warfare)

I concede this point, but how many more deaths would be caused without the rule of government? Also, how many of these current wars are fought from the vote of the people? Do we really get a say or a vote on whether we go to war or not?

I agree, government sponsored violence is a terrible blight. But I don't think the solution is to abolish government, rather I think the solution is to simply to reform it.

2. I think laws are stupid and not necessary.

This is indefensible.

3. I think politicians are corrupt.

Many are, many aren't. Corruption does need to be addressed, though, yes.

4. I think taxation is theft.

As a comparison to what? Lawlessness and unfettered theft; dilapidated infrastructure and the complete absence of the rule of law? Unbridled exploitation? Might equals right?

I'm a Minarchist.

Most of the government functions are just redundant luxuries. It should only serve to fill the power vacuum and thus ensure the rule of law.

The true beauty of that statement lies in that it can refer to any form of government, including communism.
