Ampersand but I'm still stuck on using and I think with the speed of things today & that is much better

Side: Ampersand/&

Symbols are quicker. I personally like the "3" with the dot on top of it and the dot on the bottom of it. =]

I like using the word "and" better for two reasons: 1) i can't write "&" correctly on paper and 2) i would use the word "and" more anyways.

I use both myself, but I think that the "&" isn't proper English. I mostly use "&" when I want to try & save space. :)

Side: I use both

A lot of things in communications go by convention and the usage of the ampersand symbol is not considered appropriate in formal or official communication. It is alright to use any symbol if you are communicating with your friends, and chatting etc.

But when you are writing something for formal communication, such as your resume, or an essay, poetry, or even a great speech, you just cant get the same effect in the mind of a reader by using the ampersand, what you would get by using the full word. Some sentences in writing begin with ( for effect / emphasis or power ) the word And and makes this conjunction very powerful. Consider this example :

Blood, sweat, tears AND toil vs,

Blood, sweat, tears & toil .

or

Burger and Coke or

Burger & Coke

I vote for And. And I think that suits me !

"And" and "&" , is still saying "And", But "&" and "And" ,can not say "Ampersand", Unless it is "Said" and not "Written"...................:)

Side: And and Ampersand

Ampersand (&) is not supposed to be used in the place of And. It is merely a symbol and I am afraid to think that someone supporting Ampersand is too lazy to actually write three letters- A.N.D.

Side: And

Does anyone actually use the word ampersand?

the ampersand is &!

which is 3 letters shorter than and.

Oh yes, I realise that. But 'ampersand' is, in fact, also a spoken word. Read "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close." Ampersand is used.
