Animal Testing

Should animals be used for research of human products and medicines? What is the big deal? Are the animals really hurt? Should we even worry about that? How else could we get medicines and products out on the market if we didn't test on animals?

I do believe we should continue to test on animals in the safest way possible. Without testing on animals first we would have no clue if a lot of things in this world are safe. It may be sad and whatever, but its also probably better than risking human lives.

Well, I am also sort of on both sides. because think about it. Would you want to be tested on? I wouldn't want to be. But then I am over here like; "Why would we test on animals if it's going to be for human use?" for me, as long as they are treated in an appropriate way, then yes. If not then no. If there are alternatives like using cells from us humans, and go that way then yes.

I think we should keep testing on animals because it’s a lot safer instead testing in humans. Well this topic will always be argued about because you have people who see it in different ways. I personally see that testing on animals is the better choice. As long as we do it as humanely as possible it should be okay. Others may think that we shouldn't have to use animals to test. They ask why would we do this to animals, but the simple answer that many will give is that it will always be in best interest that we save human lives. Yes there are tests that aren't humane against animals, and many who are for the testing on animals will disagree of their inhumane treatment, but once again the most simple answer that people who are for the use of animals for research is this. Why would we risk our own lives just to not be able to make the advancements in sciences that we have by using animals for research? So I am for the argument of animals being used for research as long as its humane, and animals are treated fairly.

I think for the continued success of the human race testing on animals for research is the best option for to test new medicines. How will we ever figure out the cure for cancer without animals to test medicine on or deepen our understanding of diseases without anything to test treatments on. I believe animals should be used for testing because if we didn't use animals to test we would instead use humans and cause the Human death rate go way up. The testing of animals using new medical procedures and or medicines has brought major breakthroughs in the medical field as well as the cosmetic field. The animals reactions to the drugs and or product depending on the animal directly relate to the way a human would react due to the skin composition. For example when they test beauty products they generally test them on pigs because the skin although is a tad thicker it has the same composition as human skin. Monkeys and mice are widely used for the testing of medicines due again to their genetic make up.

Though it is very hard to decide just one side of this argument, I do believe that this is truly the best option. However, just because we have to use animals as test subjects, does not mean we have to treat them any poorly than how we would treat ourselves or others. They should be treated kindly because even though we're using them as test subjects, they still have feelings and know if we're treating them badly or not. If there was another way of testing new medicines and so on, I would definitely be on that side of the argument, but for now, we must keep it animals because we truly have no other way because animals are the closest to human beings.

Animal research has lead to many breakthroughs in medical treatments and cures.

I know this because The California Biomedical Research Association states that nearly every medical breakthrough in the last 100 years has resulted directly from research using animals.Experiments in which dogs had their pancreases removed led directly to the discovery of insulin, critical to saving the lives of diabetics.Which clearly shows why we should keep experimenting on animals to discover further cures and medication.

-"Many diseases that affect human beings also affect other mammals, but they do not occur in insects, plants, or bacteria."

These are just a few points that help to support my point. Animals make ideal test subjects because medical researchers can use them to test new and potential medicines for human use. Human lives are more important than animals lives. Animals are used to ensure that medicines are safe for humans.

We should use animals for testing because people can get hurt from new products that aren't on the market. People don't repopulate like the animals we use to test products on. The animals used are mostly rodents and some birds. In some cases they use cats, dogs and swine but I don't believe that happens unless it is necessary. They have several litters with multiple babies some even up to 12 babies per litter. Humans typically only have 1 or 2 babies a year. If one person dies or gets hurt it is not as easy to replace them.

It's a difficult question because I see that both sides have good arguments.

Ultimately, I come down on this side because new medicines have to be tested before they can be deemed safe for human consumption. If we were just talking about beauty products then I'd be on the other side.

Well of course animals should be continued to be tested upon. Although I believe they should be treated as humanely and kindly as possible. Though I am aware of course that oft-times this is impossible, and that these animals must die in the testing process.

But hell, what is the alternative? Test on humans? This is not gonna happen. Like it or not we homo sapiens are on top of the food chain and we evolved a long long time and overcame some very difficult obstacles--and also had a lot of luck!--to reach the top. So we get to call the shots and we ARE the superior animals. Yes....at the basics of it all, we ARE animals. But we are also imbued with unparalleled intelligence that tells us it is better and safer to test new products on lesser animals than it is ourselves.

Make no mistake here, all you animal lovers. (Actually I am an animal lover too, but I do not delude myself): if those animals were above us on the food chain and had the chance to test THEIR new stuff on US, you can bet your PETA Card-carrying ass that they would! LOL.

I am kinda stuck between both sides but I chose this one because there are alternatives for testing products and medicines we don't have to on animals . I understand you rather test on them but they never asked for that animals should not be test subjects and they could always end up dying in the process . This subject is sort of difficult to pick a side for. However, in the end it comes down to how researchers treat animals. Lab animals are treated terribly, and are subject to being physically abused (chemical exposure, infliction of wounds/burns, etc...). It explains that using computer simulation provides a much more reliable test as we're able to use human genetics, as compared to animal genetics. While it is helpful to test potential drugs and medicine on an animal, there will always be the first human to be tested on.
