Anime

Japanese cartoons that grown adults watch. They usually contain racy content.

Well it really depends on what you're watching. There's almost a spectrum to it. There are really tame animes like Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh that are basically totally english and calm as far as content.

Then you move up to like, DragonBall Z and FullMetal Alchemist which are more Japanes-ey and violent. In these shows there are more little animating styles that are found in japan such as the X veins on the forheads of characters to show anger. There's increased violence as well. Dragonball Z is almost completely fighting with some gore. FMA has alot of fighting, language, and a lot of gore and potentially disturbing content.

Then theres shows like Inuyasha and other shows that arent typically found on regular US programming. These shows are often very violent, though they could also just contain very heavy japanese influence which the majority of the population doesnt care for, so clearly stations arent going to play shows that wont get them ratings. They may also contain more adult content like sexual themes and so on.

At the top is the wierd shit. Shit you have to LOOK for to find. This is stuff with full on japanese influence and rarely have english dubs let alone subtitling. This stuff contains extremely risky content like heavy sexual themese, even full on sex, blood gore, and just wierd shit. Like WIERD. Like tentacle magic rape monster shit....

So good and bad are based on the viewers preference as is every TV show. Some like Mythbusters and some hate it. That doesnt make it good or bad. For me personally i dont like heavy japanese anime. The most i can tolerate is like Bleach. I dont even like it, but ill watch it. My favorite anime and show in general of all time is FMA and FMA Brotherhood. Its an anime with heavy western european influence.

It really depends on what kind of anime you watch because there are different genre's of anime I watch a variety of anime's like Naruto, Sword Art Online, Magi, and other anime's but I don't watch the type of anime's where it has so much sex in it and nudity. I mostly like action, adventure, romance but not the society's view on romance (sex and nudity).

I like an anime series called Fairy Tail, it's in Japanese with subtitles, so I've picked up the honorifics and a few words.

Well, as many of you might recognize, my username comes from one of the most popular animes 'Death Note'. I have been a fan of anime for as long as I can remember. Starting with Pokémon and Yu-gi-oh!, I've never been a fan of Dragon Ball Z however. Anime takes and money both to write the storyline, hire voice actors, and animate the show. All in all, anime (other than things like Pokémon the use the same animations as much as possible) takes more time and money to make than live action shows.

I had a suspicion you would comment on this debate! Your name is from that Anime. I remember Jacob telling me about it.

I also like anime since I find their stories intriguing and has a much deeper storyline since it tackles topics too taboo in other countries. I also learn a lot of values, history and culture, and science in anime.

I like watching Animes like Dragonball, Slam Dunk, Yu Gi Oh, Yu Yu Hakusho, Flame of Recca, Death Note, Naruto, Conan, and Fairy Tail.

I also learn a lot of values, history and culture, and science in anime.... I like watching Animes like Dragonball...

What values did you learn from Dragonball? The value of screaming for half an hour straight whenever you do anything? Seriously. My friend used to watch DB all the time and I could always tell when I walked in cause all I would ever hear was:

"HHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIII-YYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! RAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! etc etc."

I really just don't see the entertainment value in poorly animated characters yelling at eachother for long periods of time. They don't even usually say anything when they yell; it's literally just noise.

I learned the value of self-sacrifice and respect to your parents and spouse. I learned some Chinese culture. I also learned some behavior of humans when succumbed with tragedy or loneliness. The fights are just there for the kids. But there are still values in it as well.

Dragon Ball was based from a great classical novel in Chinese literature and somewhat related it to modern culture. The name of the novel is Journey to the West. So I would`t think of it as a poorly made story.

Obviously everyone has their recommended type of program. I prefer anime over modern day television, mainly because I enjoy watching it, but also because there aren't like 200 cop shows airing at the same time.

some anime can help you learn. It helped me remember a lot of countries and history. (hetalia)

I would just like everyone to consider the proportions of anime characters, were they real.

Most of the time their eyes would be approximately the size of softballs, if not larger.

Their massive heads would shatter their tiny necks.

The average anime character seems to have roughly 50lbs of hair on their head... how the fuck...?

And for being almost universally petite characters, they don't seem to have any problem swinging around swords and guns that would weigh - literally - a ton in real life.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I might like anime if I wasn't so caught up on how ridiculously exaggerated and fake everything about it is. When I watch something I like to be able to think it's at least a little probable, even if it's within a fantastical, unrealistic setting. Anime never does this.

OK good point, but boobs... never forget the ridiculous boobs...

Side: It's Good!

Thank you, my apologies, my mind wasn't in the gutter for once.

Yes, boobs so large they would break the spine of a silverback gorilla, let alone a tiny little girly anime character.

I do not watch Anime. I have seen a few programmes, but I did not like them. I think people should watch other, more productive things.

History, Discovery, Cooking, Home, Health, etc.

Shows where you walk away actually having learned something other than the trite morals generally imparted by childish cartoons, like about history or science or how to make a new meal or how to preform home repair or how to maintain your health.

I could learn more by watching any given hour of Discovery than I would if I watched every DBZ episode in existence.
