um, what? Why would that sadden a generation that came 100 years after that even happened? I'm not sad about it, no I know is, our Government doesn't seem sad about it. America is only what it is today because of British immigrants sailing over and building the foundations for what you now have. America also build its economy and power through war and corruption, what there to be jealous, or mad, of?...
Why? What benefit has there been for us being in an alliance since World War Two. All we have been since is a pawn in your game for example how you tried to put your nukes on our soil during the cold war which made us a potential target from the Russians if push came to shove.
Why? What benefit has there been for us being in an alliance since World War Two.
Well, I guess we'll start with World War Two then. Without our help, you guys would have fallen to the Nazis.
All we have been since is a pawn in your game for example how you tried to put your nukes on our soil during the cold war which made us a potential target from the Russians if push came to shove.
You guys could have refused to allow us to put nukes on your soil.
Maybe you aren't aware of the history of the Cold War, but you guys were on our side. British spies were in Russia and Russian spies were in Britain. There was some serious tension and you guys would have been an easy target, however, the main deterrent of a nuclear attack is knowing that the target can easily retaliate. We put that deterrent on your soil and made you a little more dangerous. It was basically a big "Don't Fuck with Us" sign that we placed on your lawn.
That isn't even what I said and now I see that you lack fundamental reading skills. I'm equating the power of the two contries. If another war were to start, and Britain was on the other side, America would win.
They don't play fair either. They've been down-voting all of the arguments on this side and upvoting the hell out of all the arguments on the other side. Five upvotes for what may be the dumbest response on this debate... come on! Somebody is offended.
Sadly a lot are. Which is why the majourity of British TV is just American films and documentaries and news items (after all, who doesn't love a story about a school massacre ;) ).
However, I never stop hearing about Americans finding British accents sexy, soo.. :P
Dude, I couldn't care less if you bitch about me, and you shouldn't give a shit about this debate. Plus, getting rid of it would cost people a lot of points.
I honestly don't look at America as being any better than Britain. We're the same if anything. We're all on the same rock, just in different locations. At the time, I just knew how much attention these types of debates get. So don't get offended by it. Your gov't sucks. My gov't sucks. All governments suck! Lets not argue about who is better, because none of them are actually good. Some just appear to be less evil than others.
As far as I know if you close a debate meaning it is still up but you can't vote on it or post new arguments no points will be lost, only if you delete it. I wasn't bitching about you just your country.
So you're just trying to get points are you? What is that going to accomplish?
As far as I know if you close a debate meaning it is still up but you can't vote on it or post new arguments no points will be lost, only if you delete it. I wasn't bitching about you just your country.
Oh, I thought you meant delete it. I guess I could close it... But I don't really want to. Why do you want it closed?
So you're just trying to get points are you? What is that going to accomplish?
I never said anything about points, other than I was afraid that closing the debate would cost others their points. I said that I knew it would be a popular topic. A topic that stirs up a bunch of activity is what we're all looking for when we make debates, isn't it?
As though the most important thing about the people that inhabit those areas is that fact... The average person anywhere is more or less the same as the average person anywhere else. I feel that the question posed is corrosive to healthy thought processes and judgments and has no place in rational debate.
No, they're just a fine 1st world nation like the rest of Western Europe. If you consider Western Europe fine. The UK and the US get along, but like us they joke about other nationalities.
The USA is one of the most morally 'ugly' places in the world. They have the death sentence, they lock 'suspected terrorists' up for life without charge, the president is often the person with the most money, if you have ever been arrested (guilty or not) for a crime you'll find it almost impossible to find decent work as employers have access to these records... the list goes on. That's not to mention to dangerous high level of religious extremists there.
Sure there are other countries that also have these problems but that would claim so strongly that they are one of the most advanced societies in the world. I find the USA absolutely terrifying.
Good! If someone takes the lives of ten innocent people, then he deserves to be put to death.
they lock 'suspected terrorists' up for life without charge
Yeah... and you guys have given us plenty of them.
You put "suspected terrorists" in quotation marks... are you suggesting that they aren't even suspected of terrorism? What do we have to gain by imprisoning an innocent person?
the president is often the person with the most money
Do you know how much money our president makes each year? About $400,000. The British Prime Minister makes about the equivalent of $300,000 per year. The Queen of England receives almost $50 million each year! That's a lot of money for someone who is basically just a figure head.
if you have ever been arrested (guilty or not) for a crime you'll find it almost impossible to find decent work as employers have access to these records
Well, no shit. Employers don't have access to your records in Britain? I wonder how many pedophiles are working at preschools over there...
That's not to mention to dangerous high level of religious extremists there.
WHAT!? Where in the hell did you hear that? They're finding more terrorists hiding out in Canada and Britain than they are here.
I find the USA absolutely terrifying.
I guess that means you won't be over here anytime soon...? Lol good. You sound a bit like a drama queen, dude.
Good! If someone takes the lives of ten innocent people, then he deserves to be put to death.
The state should not be able to take anyones life. It should never have this much power.
Yeah... and you guys have given us plenty of them. You put "suspected terrorists" in quotation marks... are you suggesting that they aren't even suspected of terrorism? What do we have to gain by imprisoning an innocent person?
People are imprisoned in the USA because their neighbour said that they are a terrorist, for example. Its better safe than sorry though right.
Do you know how much money our president makes each year? About $400,000. The British Prime Minister makes about the equivalent of $300,000 per year. The Queen of England receives almost $50 million each year! That's a lot of money for someone who is basically just a figure head.
Obama has a personal fortune of about 10 million dollars and this was how he was able to afford to campaign for presidency. UK prime ministers are often upper middle class.
Well, no shit. Employers don't have access to your records in Britain? I wonder how many pedophiles are working at preschools over there...
Employers relating to jobs with children and vulnerable adults submit a form to the government who gives them a list of someones convictions and whether they have been disqualified from working with that group. For most jobs there isn't a criminal record check.
Imagine if you were arrest for something really serious you didn't do. For example you happened to look like someone who murdered a child and you were arrested for it in order to be questioned. However then the police realised that it absolutely wasn't you and released you. You might never be able to find a decent job. Is that far to you?
WHAT!? Where in the hell did you hear that? They're finding more terrorists hiding out in Canada and Britain than they are here.
Christians that believe that morality doesn't exist without God.
The state should not be able to take anyones life. It should never have this much power.
They are citizens of the state, they reap the benefits of it. If they kill someone in that state, a tax paying citizen, the state has the right to arrest him. Once he's imprisoned, he is no longer a paying citizen. He costs money. Our money. The murderer did not have the right to take another citizen's life... but he did anyways. If he wanted to murder someone and live out the rest of his life in a paid for room with a bed, a tv, a toilet... then he should have moved his ass over to the UK, because we don't look kindly on murderers here in the States. I'd love to say that it's an eye for an eye over here, but that's not always the case. Everyone gets the right to a fair trial.
People are imprisoned in the USA because their neighbour said that they are a terrorist, for example. Its better safe than sorry though right.
Anything like that is investigated before a decision is made.
Obama has a personal fortune of about 10 million dollars and this was how he was able to afford to campaign for presidency. UK prime ministers are often upper middle class.
One word... donations. Plus, he's been in politics most of his life.
For most jobs there isn't a criminal record check.
That's not a good thing.
Imagine if you were arrest for something really serious you didn't do. For example you happened to look like someone who murdered a child and you were arrested for it in order to be questioned.
What's your point? Every bit of that info would be on your record.
Christians that believe that morality doesn't exist without God.
What's your point? Every bit of that info would be on your record.
The point is, as Dana said, that in a civilised society people are not punished in the long term for the fact they have been arrested by the police for a crime someone else has committed.
Those are everywhere. More in Europe than here.
As far as I know, there has never been a real debate about whether we should teach children in science classes about Adam and Eve.
The point is, as Dana said, that in a civilised society people are not punished in the long term for the fact they have been arrested by the police for a crime someone else has committed.
Nobody is getting punished... you just assume that every employer is the same. If you have a DUI on your record, the employer might bring it up and find out it was just some dumb mistake from your college years... but if you have an armed robbery on your record, then you probably will have trouble finding a white collar job, especially if it's at a bank.
Looking at the person's arrest record gives the employer a hint on what to expect. It's up to the employer on whether or not he/she wants to hire the person. I don't see how anything is wrong with that. Hell, an employer can choose not to hire a person because the potential employee is black or because the person is a homosexual! Who knows what an employer's real reason for not hiring somebody is...
As far as I know, there has never been a real debate about whether we should teach children in science classes about Adam and Eve.
What does that have to do with religious extremists? I don't know if you checked, but the United States is HUGE. Just about every State has a different culture and that is fucking AWESOME! We have a guideline that every State abides by and then we leave room to allow each State to create it's own identity. For example, just about everything in New York is different than Arizona. West Virginia has a ton of hillbillies, but Massachusetts on the other hand, is pretty well-educated. Certain people are drawn to certain areas. They can go to a society where they fit in.
I've never been to or met someone who has attended a school that teaches creationism as being accurate... but I obviously don't know everyone. I've heard of schools that teach them side by side as two different theories, but never one saying, "creationism is right and evolution is wrong!". What's wrong with teaching them side by side, rather then saying that one theory is 100% accurate? It sounds to me like Britain wants to dissolve any sort of identity a student can create for themselves and force them into one way of thinking. Maybe that's why everybody over there seems to be so arrogant. They're taught that one thing is the absolute truth and that anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot.

If I were arrested for child murder and released within two hours without charge how would that give a person a hint of who I am? You could be arrested for such a crime tomorrow if someone that looked like you committed such a crime. Do you think there's any chance of that person being able to hold a senior position?
The difference between not hiring someone because they're black and not hiring someone because they've been arrested for a crime they didn't commit is that the later is legal in the USA.
If I were arrested for child murder and released within two hours without charge how would that give a person a hint of who I am?
Well, I was mainly referring to arrests in which the person was actually guilty. If you were arrested for murder and released within two hours, then you probably don't have anything to worry about as far as finding a job goes. If you have any evidence to the contrary, I'd like to see it.
You could be arrested for such a crime tomorrow if someone that looked like you committed such a crime.
Yeah... so could someone in Britain, this is of course, assuming that the police are going off a photo, a video or a witness description. Hopefully the person has a good alibi.
Do you think there's any chance of that person being able to hold a senior position?
Uhhh... yeah. You have to understand that non-government employers are often looking at your public records. If your arrest is publicly documented, then anyone can get access to that. However, depending on your criminal record, you may have it expunged. It's only when applying for government jobs, that you have to reveal your arrest record even if it has already been sealed.
The difference between not hiring someone because they're black and not hiring someone because they've been arrested for a crime they didn't commit is that the later is legal in the USA.
If the employer is uncomfortable with the individual... then sure. But like I said, your record will have all of that listed. After a case is dismissed, you may request to have your record sealed.
By the way, did I convince you with the points that you aren't responding to? I'm just curious, because it seems like you're ignoring a lot of what I'm typing.
The state should not be able to take anyones life. It should never have this much power. I agree with the stipulation that the state can use force to preserve life and essential liberty. People are imprisoned in the USA because their neighbour said that they are a terrorist, for example. Its better safe than sorry though right. I am an American, and I can confirm this.
Obama has a personal fortune of about 10 million dollars and this was how he was able to afford to campaign for presidency. UK prime ministers are often upper middle class. I had no idea. Imagine if you were arrest for something really serious you didn't do. For example you happened to look like someone who murdered a child and you were arrested for it in order to be questioned. However then the police realised that it absolutely wasn't you and released you. You might never be able to find a decent job. Is that far to you? No. That is horrifying. No one should pay for a crime someone else committed.
Oh, you can? Do you have an example? Under the Patriot Act, and NDAA, one can be indefinately detained on meer supsicion without legal recourse. This is not a left or right thing, this is me hating indefinate detention. Also for your viewing displeasure is the way the TSA molested people at airports, and how the scans nhave been leaked. Why cant they just scan with those wand thingeys and not violate our rights? I'm starting to wonder if you actually live in the UK... lol. American born and bred, I just like some of their sayings. And accents. Dear God, they are sexy. ;)
................................................................................................... I just think this is a bad question............ but no I don't think that they are, I could be wrong. its kind of like saying China is jealous of Russia or Africa is jealous of Australia................
I mean like it just sounds like a general statement. there isn't much to go on from it. besides agreeing that ALL brits are jealous or ALL brits are not.
Why would i be jealous of a country whos government strips their people of their rights and taunts for war in the name of profit. Whos government is controlled by bankers and not the people. A country who elects people like George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Woodrow Wilson. America (USA) is corrupt to its core and is living off its ego. Jealous implies i am envious of something, and im certainty not envious of America and do so hope Britain never ends up like it. And ill just throw this out there, China is the most powerful country in the world not USA.
Why would i be jealous of a country whos government strips their people of their rights and taunts for war in the name of profit.
The whole reason America fought for independence in the first place is because Britain was stripping us of our rights... and you guys fought plenty of wars for profit. You ruled most of the world at one time. You guys are also our allies. Just about every war we've been in since the 20th century, you guys have been there alongside us.
Whos government is controlled by bankers and not the people.
How is the British government much different? Hell, you guys still have monarchs! They're more of figure-heads, but still...
A country who elects people like George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Woodrow Wilson.
And Kennedy, Roosevelt (both of them), Reagan and Lincoln... what's your point? According to you, it doesn't even matter, since we're "ruled" by bankers.
America (USA) is corrupt to its core and is living off its ego.
Every government is corrupt, at least to an extent. You guys are our closest allies. You honestly don't think our governments share similar ideologies? Edward Snowden for example, pointed out the NSA's spying... but he also stated that the GCHQ is worse. That's you guys! The sad thing is that the media would rather blame the NSA and ignore the GCHQ. The big brother spying bullshit will probably decrease over here... but it's just going to get even worse in Britain.
Jealous implies i am envious of something, and im certainty not envious of America and do so hope Britain never ends up like it.
Too late! You guys are more like us than any other country.
And ill just throw this out there, China is the most powerful country in the world not USA.
Wrong on your first point, the main reason for America fighting for independence is that Britain made it illegal for it to use its free currency that wasn't regulated and controlled and made by banks, and what do you guys do? You create your own currency that is regulated and controlled and made by banks, NOT government banks either. Also the only reason you joined in WW1 and 2 was because of profit same goes for the Vietnam war. The fact that the USA got rid of its gold standard is evidence of the fact that bankers control the USA, amongst more evidence to that point. 9/11 was a completely a false-flag operation contrived by corrupt officials in the US government to further an agenda that strips rights. Exactly how are we like the USA? With media like FOX news im surprised that America is even aware of anything that happens. And for the last point i made, i did so only to educate the Americans who somehow think they are the most powerful country in the world. The fact the USA is hated is not because of jealousy it is because you give us plenty of reasons to hate you.
Wrong on you first point, the main reason for America fighting for independence is that Britain made it illegal for it to use its free currency that wasn't regulated and controlled and made by banks
Well, that shows how much you know. The cause of the American Revolution is that America wanted full rights as British citizens. The British didn't think that anyone living in the colonies should be represented by British Parliament.
You create your own currency that is regulated and controlled and made by banks, NOT government banks either.
What are you talking about? Ever heard of the Federal Reserve? You guys have the Bank of England. Every nation with their own currency has a central bank.
Also the only reason you joined in WW1 and 2 was because of profit same goes for the Vietnam war.
That's why we gave you guys billions of dollars of material prior to entering the war? Give me a break! Apparently you haven't read up on your WW2 history. We were attacked by Japan... right after that Germany declared war on us. We got involved because they declared war on us!
The fact that the USA got rid of its gold standard is evidence of the fact that bankers control the USA, amongst more evidence to that point.
There was more money circulating than there was gold to back it up.
9/11 was a completely a false-flag operation contrived by corrupt officials in the US government to further an agenda that strips rights.
Oh, great... you're a conspiracy theorist. Get you're head out of your ass. Our government isn't that stupid or that cruel.
Exactly how are we like the USA? With media like FOX news im surprised that America is even aware of anything that happens.
You apparently have no idea how our media is set up. Fox News is a conservative network... ALL OF THE REST are liberal. Fox tends to be more religious and obviously anti-democrat, but they still cover world events... and if they don't cover a story well enough, then we can switch to one of the other fifteen or so news channels. Actually, one of our main options is BBC. I believe Sky News is an option as well. We get the same news as you and more! So don't give me that "American propaganda" bullshit. You have absolutely no idea what goes on in our country.
And for the last point i made, i did so only to educate the Americans who somehow think they are the most powerful country in the world.
We have a pretty significant push. Much more than you guys.
The fact the USA is hated is not because of jealousy it is because you give us plenty of reasons to hate you.
Are they your reasons? Well, sorry to break it to you... but those are some of the most ignorant reasons I have ever read. You clearly don't know shit.
King George III of England outlawed the interest free, independent currency the colonies were producing and using for themselves. In turn forcing them to borrow money from the central bank of England at interest immediately putting the colonies into debt. "The refusal of King George III to allow the colonies to operate an honest money system, which freed the clutches of the money manipulators was probably the prime cause of the revolution" - Benjamin Franklin. The Federal Reserve is a central bank which is not owned by the government, it is a private corporation and it makes its own policies and is under virtually no regulation by the US government; completely consistent with the fraudulent central banking model the country sought to escape from when it declared independence. A central bank is an institution that produces the currency of a entire nation. They control interest rates and inflation. It does not simply supply a governments economy with money, it loans it to them at interest. Then through use of increasing and decreasing the supply of money the central bank regulates the value of the money being issued. All they do is produce debt in the long run. "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous than standing armies... If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of currency... The banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of their property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered." - Thomas Jefferson. "Our great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is privately concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men... Who necessarily, by very reason of their own limitations, chill and check and destroy genuine economic freedom. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated governments in the civilized world - no government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and the duress of small groups of dominant men." - Woodrow Wilson. After the bill passed to allow for the Federal Reserve Louis McFadden wrote - "A world banking system was being set up here... A superstate controlled by international bankers... Acting together to enslave the world for their own pleasure. The FED has usurped the government." The FED created the Federal income tax, the American public's ignorance to this tax is a testament to how dumbed down and oblivious the American population really is. The tax is completely unconstitutional as it is a direct, unapportioned tax. All direct taxes must be apportioned to be legal based on the constitution and the amendment was never met. There is no law that requires you to pay this tax. In WW1 war broke out centred around Britain and Germany, the American public wanted nothing to do with the war. Woodrow Wilson even declared neutrality. In a noted observation by Senator William Jennings Bryan - "The large banking interests were deeply interested in the world war because of the wide opportunities for large profits." War forces the government to borrow more money from the central bank at interest. Woodrow Wilson's top advisor and mentor, Colonel Edward House, a man with intimate connections with the international bankers, wanted in the war. In a documented conversation between House and Sir Edward Grey of the foreign secretary of England regarding how to get America into the war, Grey inquired, "What will Americans do if Germans sink an ocean liner with American passengers on-board?" House - "I believe that a flame of indignation would sweep the United States and that by itself would be sufficient to carry us into war." So on May 7th, 1915 on essentially the suggestion of Sir Edward Grey, a ship called the Lusitania was deliberately sent into German controlled waters were German military vessels were know to be. And as expected, German U-boats torpedoed the ship. The German embassy even put ads in the New York times that if they board the Lusitania they did so at their own risk, as such a ship sailing from America to England in the war zone would be liable to destruction. As anticipated the Americans were angry and America joined the war. WW2, on December 7th, 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbour triggering Americas entry into that war. After 60 years of surfacing information it is clear that not only was the attack on Pearl Harbour known weeks in advance it was outright wanted and provoked. Roosevelt, whos family had been New York bankers since the 18th century, whos uncle Fredrick was on the original FED reserve board, was very sympathetic to the interests of the international bankers, and the interest was to enter the war. In a journal entry by Roosevelt's secretary of war Henry Stimson dated November 25th, 1941, he documented a conversation he had with Roosevelt, "The question was how should we maneuver them into firing the first shot... It was desirable to make sure the Japanese be the ones to do this so that there should remain no doubt as to who were the aggressors." In the months leading up to Pearl Harbour Roosevelt had done almost everything in his power to anger the Japanese, showing a posture of aggression. He halted all of Japan's imports of American petroleum. He froze all of Japanese assets in the US. He publicly loaned to nationalist China and supplied military aid to the British, both enemies of Japan in the war, which by the way is completely against international war rules. On December 4th, 3 days before the attack, Australian intelligence told Roosevelt about a Japanese task force moving towards Pearl Harbour, Roosevelt ignored it. Nazi Germany's war effort was largely supported by 2 organisations, one was I.G. Farben who produced 84% of Germany's explosives and even the zyklon b used in the concentration camps. One of the unspoken partners of I.G. Farben was J.D Rockefeller's (American international banker) standard oil company in America. The German air-force could not operate without a special additive patented by US standard oil. The nazi bombing of London was made possible by a $20 million sale of fuel to I.G. Farben by US standard oil. This is just one small point on the topic on how American business funded both sides of the war. Another treasonous organisation worth mentioning is the Union Banking Corp - New York City - which funded numerous aspects of Hitlers rise to power along with actual materials used during the war it was also a nazi money laundering bank which was eventually exposed after having millions of dollars of nazi money in its vaults. The director and president of the Union Banking Corp was Prescott Bush, the father of George H. W. Bush and grandfather of George W. Bush. The declaration of war against North Vietnam in 1964 came after an alleged incident involving 2 US destroyers being attacked by North Vietnamese PT boats off the coast of North Vietnam - The gulf of Tonkin incident. Only problem is the attack never actually happened. It was a completely staged event to have an excuse to enter the war. Secretary of Defence Robert McNamara stated that the incident was a "mistake", while many other insiders and officers have come forward relaying that it was a contrived farce. A complete lie. Currently in the US, unannounced to most brainwashed Americans, American homes can be searched without a warrant, without you being home, you can in-turn be arrested with no charges revealed to you, detained indefinitely with no access to a lawyer and legally tortured all under the suspicion that you might be a terrorist all thanks to the false-flag oppertion conducted by the US government, or if you will, 9/11. Want a painted picture of what America is being like? In February, 1933, Hitler staged a false-flag attack burning down his own German parliament building in the reichstag and blamed it on communist terrorists. Within the next few weeks he passed the enabling act which completely eradicated the German constitution destroying peoples liberties (much like the USA patriot act). He then led a list of pre-emptive wars (much like Iraq and Afghanistan) all justified to the German people as necessary to maintain homeland security. "An evil exists that threatens every man, woman and child of this great nation. We must take steps to ensure our domestic security and protect our homeland." George W. Bush AND Hitler, when announcing the Gestapo to the people. Fine i'll hand it to you i don't know much about your media, but to be fair that isn't really the main crux of my point. So no, i am not jealous of America.
King George III of England outlawed the interest free, independent currency the colonies were producing and using for themselves. In turn forcing them to borrow money from the central bank of England at interest immediately putting the colonies into debt.
The fact that you copied a Yahoo Answers response, word for word, shows me that you don't have a clue what you are talking about and have to rely on others to argue for you.
Are you going to be able to disprove my point or not... because the girl from Yahoo Answers isn't helping you?
"The refusal of King George III to allow the colonies to operate an honest money system, which freed the clutches of the money manipulators was probably the prime cause of the revolution" - Benjamin Franklin.
This is why you shouldn't rely on Yahoo Answers... that quote is fake. They attribute it to being in his autobiography, but I have his autobiography... and it isn't in there. The funny thing is that the only sites that I can find containing that quote are conservative websites (Tea Party, Dailypaul, etc.), which is kind of odd considering you were trash talking Fox News earlier.
The Federal Reserve is a central bank which is not owned by the government, it is a private corporation and it makes its own policies and is under virtually no regulation by the US government
The Federal Reserve is described as "independent within the government". The governors of the bank are appointed by the president and their authority comes from the U.S. Congress.
Did you use your own words at all? All you did was steal arguments from other sites... most of them forums. Is that why you made it one huge paragraph? So that I would think that you came up with all of that on your own?
Fine i'll hand it to you i don't know much about your media, but to be fair that isn't really the main crux of my point. So no, i am not jealous of America.
Honestly, I don't care if you're jealous or not. I was just trying to get back at TheEccentric. What gets me is how little you actually know about America... and what you do know is mainly bullshit. You're brainwashed by conspiracy garbage. If you're going to despise us, at least have some real reasons.
Actually the first bit is what i remembered from a documentary i saw and the quote i found is from Vile Acts of Evil by Michael A. Kirchubel. Don't try to impugn my sources by saying i copied it from Yahoo answers, i certaintly did not.
Bullshit! You typed word for word what that girl said on Yahoo Answers. That would not happen if you were remembering something from a "documentary". Also, your quote is wrong no matter where you found it from.
Yes. It sounds like they're trying to swallow something through the nose as they speak (as if there were possible..). Here in Spain USAians love to try and speak Spanish. One of the most common words in Spanish is vale pronounced ba-le. Someone how the USAians manage to pronounce it bauwww-le. At least they get the le right :/
Americans aren't the best at learning other languages, I'll give you that... but considering Spanish is quickly becoming a required language for students and employees here in the states, it won't be long before they'll be attempting an entire conversation in Spanish for you to critique.
I think all accents sound weird to outsiders. The English accent sounds too posh, kind of like a wine connoisseur. Spanish sounds like they're in a rush. It's like they need to hurry up so that they can go take a shit. Then when they attempt English, they sound a bit like a weed whacker. Asians sound like they karate chop their words. Everything they say ends kind of suddenly. They often sound angry. Germans really sound angry... and I think they might actually be angry. Their words are ridiculously long. I had a difficult time figuring everything out in Germany. Italians sound excited. Russians sound like they're gargling rocks. The French sound a bit nasally, to be honest. I find the Irish accent interesting because I can clearly hear where our Boston accent's come from... and that's about all I can think of right now.
They're entertaining to debate with though. Each time I argue with them on a topic like this, they say we're all brainwashed and America is evil, blah, blah, blah. But they usually come off sounding more brainwashed than us.
Today I learned that they think (or at least one of them thinks) our only news channel is Fox... the one conservative network on TV. Little do they know that one of our main options is BBC.
The US has FOX, the UK has BBC. Both our education systems are broke, both our governments are in debt, both of our citizens are uninformed and uncultured and both of our armed forces fucked up in Iraq. The US and UK are very similar, but they won't admit that either, arrogance is a blockade to knowledge.
Yeah... and we both have governments that spy on us. Seriously, Edward Snowden said that the GCHQ is worse than the NSA, but nobody talks about that. Everyone would rather point the finger at us.
That's how it works, really, it's like watching two twins fight about who is dumber, when they're both too stupid to realize that they are twins and their genetics are almost identical.
Well, to be honest, it's usually the Brits complaining about America... not vice-versa. How often do you hear an American complaining about Britain? We're allies! We're supposed to talk shit about our enemies and then high-five when we're done.
Maybe Britain is just pissed off because we won our independence and became more powerful than them.
The English accent sounds too posh, kind of like a wine connoisseur.
Depends on the area you're in, if your in London that accent will crop up more, if you were in my area though it would be very different you basically either get a yob sort of accent or a farmer like accent (like mine).
Well, that's the thing... not all Americans have the same accent either. It was ignorant of him to group all of us together, so I did the same in response.
Very few English people speak with posh accents, only like 5% of the population. Most British people speak with regional accents that are absolutely nothing like a wine connoisseur.
It is English accents not accent, there are so many, a lot of which sound pretty much nothing alike. Try comparing the Scouse accent to the Posh/Upper class accent. Most Americans seem to think there is only one accent we speak one accent, that being the upper class one.
The modern British accent didn't really catch on until the early 19th century. It was mainly used by the wealthy to make themselves sound more posh. American plantation owners in the South adopted the non-rhotic style as well. Besides maybe New York and the New England area, most of America has remained rhotic... We pronounce the R's in words.
speakin' buh' never partin' dem lips too muh'. or pa'tin dem wayy too muh'.
That's an example of a non-rhotic Southern accent. You can thank the British for that.
and the nasal shit. gosh the nasal shit. annoying
I think foreign accents just sound nasally to people. The British accent sounds kind of nasally to me. When they say "hahd" instead of "hard", it makes it seem like they have a stuffy nose.

the british usually complete their words to an exaggerated extent. not all the time. mostly.
I think foreign accents just sound nasally to people.
that is probably true. foreign accents always sound weird to anybody else. but americans these days seem to fake it. american celebs, american girls on youtube. it's obvious they're faking it.
When they say "hahd" instead of "hard", it makes it seem like they have a stuffy nose.
but the r is geneally silent. O_O right?
and american sounds the same to me. there isn't much distinction between southern and nortern american accents. except maybe, south is a little softer than up north.
p.s. i've never ben to america, i just have friends who've lived there. so my facts can be wrong.
I am myself British, and I was surprised to see this question as a topic.
Let me firmly weigh in on the side of no, the majority of Brits I'm guessing, are not jealous of America, myself being one of them.
Though please don't get me wrong, I do love America. I enjoy American movies, eat American food and go out drinking on nights out with my American friends. I like the idea of America, the vastness and diversity of your land and wildlife. The beautiful beaches of California and Florida. Your constitution, and the passion to which it is both adhered and protected. The idea that freedom and liberty are at the heart of everything you hold dear, is very admirable and most my fellow Brits I'm sure would agree to their importance to ourselves as well.
Our two countries, as has already been said, are allies. We have a lot in common financially, politically and militarily.
All this being said, please realise, Britain too has a proud history, culture and place in the world.
Please don't forget this very forum is possible due to a British inventor, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the internet.
Other British inventions include Carbon Fibre, the steam engine, the reflecting telescope (Isaac Newton), the telephone, the steam turbine, television, passenger railway, the military tank, the jet engine, cement, stainless steel, the electric motor, photography, ATMs.... The list goes on.
Not to mention our musical legends such as Led Lepplin, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Queen, The sex pistols, Elton John, The Who, Pink Floyd, Black sabbath, Status Quo, Duran Duran, Iron Maiden ect.... The list again goes on.
I could mention literally thousands of things which make me proud to be British. The NHS, Shakespeare, The Royal Family, The white cliffs of Dover, the Angel of the north, Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament...
The point I'm trying to get at is, don't underestimate how glad and content most of us Brits are to be British.
The question 'are Brits just jealous of America' is silly in my opinion. Our nations each have things to be proud of. To be envious of even.
But in the scheme of things, looking across the water, as much as I like and respect the American people, I'd much rather remain on this side of the ocean.
Dude, you didn't need to type all of that. I only made this debate to get back at an overly-arrogant Brit. I love the British! I just don't like arrogance lol.
