Are You on Team Romney or Team Big Bird?
Mitt Romney wants to fire Big Bird.
OK, not exactly. But he did say during last night's presidential debate that he would cut funding to PBS, despite the fact that it is the home of Big Bird and his comment quickly went viral.
“I’m sorry, Jim, I’m going to stop the subsidy to PBS,” Romney told debate moderator Jim Lehrer, who also works for PBS. “I like PBS, I love Big Bird. I actually like you too.”
Twitter said that shortly after Romney's remarks, users were posting 17,000 tweets per minute mentioning Big Bird. And @FiredBigBird currently has 27,086 followers.
Responding to the general consensus (sorry, Obama fans) that Romney won the debate, @FiredBigBird tweeted: "If you think Romney REALLY won this debate just know I have nearly 27,000 followers and we all remember your 47% remarks."
The real winner of this (let's face it) pretty dull debate? Big Bird, for sure. Are you on his side? Or Romney's?

PBS is home to many hugely popular and financially successful shows including Sesame Street. Sesame street as a franchise is capable of covering it's production costs without taxpayer subsidies. Think of all the money PBS makes from the sale of merchandise; there is no good reason to think the show would suffer without taxpayer assistance. Conversely since the show was initially started with public tax dollars and a portion of its funding every year comes from taxes shouldn't the government have received its fair share of profits every year? The president of PBS makes over $600,000.00 per year so in summation I think PBS can sustain itself without the governments help. Side: Team Romney
