Are gospels written 20 or more years after death of Christ verbatim records?

The earliest gospels are over 20 years after Christ's death.  https://www.bc.edu/schools/stm/crossroads/resources/birthofjesus/intro/the_dating_of_thegospels.html

Up front. I'm not saying Christianity isn't valid. I'm not saying events in the gospels didn't happen. I'm not saying zero of the words in them were ever stated by Christ. Basically, I'm not challenging your Christianity itself.

What I'm challenging is the probability that words written by Bronze Age men 20 years after the events they regard would be verbatim. Indeed even if they were taking notes while everything was being said the likelihood those would be voluminous to fill the gospels as well as preserved 20 or more years before the authors were ready to write the gospels is slim to none.

Heck, when modern people try to recall conversations and events 20 years in our past we're not likely to get any of it verbatim, are we? In fact if the folks we argue with about Christianity on this site were asked to recall the very first conversation with us without scrolling back through posts to find it the chances are the version they would tell would be very self serving and largely made up.

Which is why I say, now as I always have, that the Bible may be inspired by God but it is not word for word from the mouth of God or Christ.

I'm neither an atheist nor a troll. And in fact in the original debate where I provided the Biblical Archeology link which led to these latter discussions my only point was the gospel of John was not written immediately after Christ's death nor possibly even by John himself. It was in reply to a John Bible verse debate SaintNow launched. Completely appropriate discussion points from me on that given topic.

There you go again jumping the gun and making assumptions, it's a good question do you not realise C D is a debate site ?

@Grenache

I'm sure you are correct. Indeed, the question posed is deceptive as no scholar believes any of the gospels were written as soon as 20 after the execution of Joshua Ben Joseph. Reams of sermons, teachings, and sayings attributed to Joshua Ben Joseph have been lifted from other holy books, even his miraculous deeds. Verbatim records? Hardly. Indeed, it is suggested that the only unique utterance of Joshua Ben Joseph to have survived is the double "Amen amen" he is recorded to have said at various times.
