(Formerly StickinStone) Perhaps it's the people. But in the case of Buddhism, if everyone followed it's teachings to a T, they wouldn't exist after one generation. They wouldn't have children. They wouldn't prolong this Life/Death/Rebirth cycle of suffering. The persistence of Buddhism requires that it's followers not follow it consistently. In the case of Protestantism, the supposed work ethic comes from the notion that material success is evidence of living properly in Gods eyes. This contradicts other Christian teachings. Side: Yes, they are.
