Ha ha ha. Up until 1818 pretty much all human education everywhere was separated by gender and/or only available to men. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ So basically you're asking was schooling up until 1818 a good idea at all. Hey, look, there's a blend of people out there, and a blend of schools. For some same sex schooling works and for others it may not. But same sex schooling is not automatically a bad idea. Side: Yes
I'm asking the relative merits of same sex versus mixed sex schools. Sorry for any confusion my wording may have caused. So for example one might say that mixed sex schools have the advantage of increased familiarity with the other sex. Or one might say that single sex schools have the advantage of less sexual behavior at a young age. Side: Yes
OK. Mixed sex schools are a more accurate reflection of life in Western society. Both genders will have to live and work together when they're older, so they get exposure to their differences and how to work them out. Same sex schools remove the variable of the distraction of having the other gender around. Which also allows coursework to taylor to the recipients' gender. I went to mixed sex schools all my life and I simply don't see a special value to if I'd only been with boys. In fact when I think back to all boy activities I was in, like Boy Scouts, I actually think the presence of some girls would have helped temper the boys to be a little less weird and wild than they get when they're with their own kind. No, we don't live in a 'same sex' world so it's important that people get used to mixing with those of opposite gender as early as possible. Education isn't exclusively about cramming knowledge into the heads of students. The curriculum must include provision for preparing pupils to be socially equipped to fit into the 'all gender' society in which they will have to live and compete when adults. Side: No
