Are tariffs on China taxes on Americans?

Hello:

Trumps tariff is a tax on imports from China.  You can believe that China will pay the tax, or you can believe that YOU'LL pay the tax

Yes, but only the unpatriotic shithead Americans who are prepared to pay extra for substandard foreign goods.

Feeling hungry?

Eat your Chinese television set.

At some point in this trade war the penny will drop and even the thickest Hill Billy will realise that American goods are cheaper and more reliable.

Hello A:

Nahhh..

IF American goods were cheaper, and IF they were more reliable, the free market says they'd be selling the shit out of them, thereby obviating the need to place tariffs on Chinese TV's..

Tariffs are price controls. They're bailouts ^. They're taxes.. Tariffs interfere with with the free market - ALL the things that conservatives USED to be against.

Dude!

^ The tariff on soybeans is BANKRUPTING American farmers, so Trump is BAILING them out..

A free market is a competition and like all competitions will only work with smooth, uninterrupted, squabble-free continuity when all the participants are subject to the same rules and competing on a level playing field.

Most Asian countries, including China, along with what America perceives as its friendly allies impose significantly higher tariffs on U.S., imported goods than vice-versa.

When we've established trading equilibrium with our so called trading partners then your argument may hold some merit.

Earlier this year the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel stated, Europe must unite against the threat from China, Russia and the United States.

Wake up and recognise that America has been taken for a sap for too long by the rest of the industrial world and this is what has created the crippling trade imbalance.

President Trump is imposing tariffs on imported goods from the offending countries in an effort to redress the unfair advantage our competitors have been enjoying with impunity for decades.

Of course such a policy will include a number of negative elements and I note that your research in this context has, true to form, focused on the negativity.

MAN, MAN OH MAN.

Tax may not be the right word, but it is an increased financial burden on the many (consumers) for the sake of the few (relevant producers). Just like the price floor on sugar. Economic protectionism enables special interests to keep prices high, rather than allowing competition to force innovations in cost/price reductions.

Are tariffs on China taxes on Americans?

Not really. For starters, you don't have to pay a tariff. You choose to pay a tariff.

Secondly, you ARE forced to pay a tax, and are given no choice.

So if we able it a "tax on Americans", it's voluntarily paid.

Is a penalty for not having insurance a tax or tyranny? Do tell.

Hello bront:

Not really??? DUDE! If I buy a flat screen TV that costs 25% MORE because of the tariffs placed on Chinese imports, WHO else is paying the tax except ME????

Of course, I COULD buy an American made flat screen.. But, we don't make 'em.. DUDE!

Now, it is true.. I can CHOOSE not to buy Chinese imports.. But, that's not realistic.. Just about EVERYTHING we buy is made in China or has Chinese parts.. Your CAR, your STOVE, your REFRIGERATOR ALL have Chinese materials..

Dude!

Which isn't a good idea for America because the country is in massive financial debt to the Chinese.

“Goods and services from China accounted for only 2.7% of U.S. personal consumption expenditures in 2010, of which less than half reflected the actual costs of Chinese imports. The rest went to U.S. businesses and workers transporting, selling, and marketing goods carrying the “Made in China” label. Although the fraction is higher when the imported content of goods made in the United States is considered, Chinese imports still make up only a small share of total U.S. consumer spending.”
