I think your motive for doing them may be in the wrong place but the people that are affected by your good deed, regardless of reason, will still be appreciative. I'd rather see a person doing good and bragging than a person doing nothing and complaining. That being said....I still think bragging about it is a bit shallow. Side: yes
A person who is good on average can still do bad things without losing the status of being good - to brag is bad, but they might be a good person overall. The good could outweigh the bad. You could say that bragging makes them less good than if they didn't brag. You carrying on of the logic to say "bad people aren't bad people if they brag about the bad deeds they have done," is not accurate, but the mistake is understandable. The act of bragging is classified as bad (at least by these people you talk about) so bragging about anything, good or bad, is considered a bad thing, thus the murderer would be considered worse if he bragged about it. You just described the Left and the Democrat Party. For decades they have piously preached that they alone care about the poor. They have demonized the GOP and the Right for supposely lacking the wonderful compassionate traits possessed by themselves. Do you see them piously parading disabled people on the stage during elections to pretend only they care for these people? They say "LOOK AT ME" I care for these people. Then they go even further and lie, saying the Right does not care about them. No. The only time you get credit for tooting your own horn is if it's a resume, an autobiography, or if anyone directly asks you for it. Otherwise, if you just out of the blue declare "I'm a good person because..." or "I'm a people person...." or "People like me..." what it really says instead is a combination of: 1) You're vain and self absorbed 2) You are either out of touch with reality or you are so afraid of the truth that you are covering it over, and 3) What you really wish is that OTHER people would say those things about you but since you know they won't you're going to do it yourself. No. If you need to jump around in circles pointing out your "great morality" or the "good" things you have done, it's all fake. It's like when you scream white privilege as a white person, yet never give it up to a minority. It's like when you bellow about racism as a white person, yet live in a completely white neighborhood. You are describing someone who has not done any good, but claims that they have, which is not what the debate is about. If one would actually do very good deeds, like doing voluntary work against racism, they deserve to do some bragging about it. If they really did something good, it wont feel like they are bragging when they tell you about it. Side: yes
