The "use of guns" is rather ambiguous, so I will go with the premise of ownership, which I am all for. Aside from the Constitutional right of owning firearms (to an extent, of course), the ownership of guns is an inherent aspect in the right to defend yourself. While I am against those who go around toting rifles in Chipotle or Starbucks, I definitely think an individual deserves to have the means to defend themselves and their family.

Given that there a hundreds of millions of guns in the US, there is little hope of controlling all of them. The rational alternative is to arm more citizens for their own protection.

Not just arming them, but making sure they know how to properly use them.

If only we could adopt more of a Swiss model.

I'm for the use of guns in the United States. After all the 2nd Amendment says that we all have the right to bear arms, and that it shouldn't be infringed.

Think about what happens in Australia

Firstly we have to apply for a licence which involves a police check, then we have to apply for a permit to acquire a firearm, both of which involve stating the purpose of the use. Then before we can take possession of the firearm through a registered dealer we have to prove we have a legally required gun safe and a separate ammunition safe and that only the licensed gun owner knows where the keys are. The guns have to remain in the safe at all times unless they are in use.

The police can enter my property to check the above at any time day or night and if it is not all in order I am in trouble.

That is what I call gun control and I am glad we have it.

I wonder why the criminals in Australia are so much more compliant with regard to gun laws than elsewhere. You imply that they are, but I doubt you are correct.

The laws are not effective because criminals are compliant with them, but because they reduce access to guns in the first place by restricting the number of firearms available for illegal acquisition (and arguably by making prosecution for such transactions easier).

Unfortunately it is a human frailty to make outrageous assumptions

Guns should be banned in the US of A. There are a few reasons on why I say this. One, many people misuse the privileges of guns, as when they get angry they shoot random people. Don't tell me this never happens, as there are so many news articles on how a husband shot his wife over a extremely small topic. My second point, if guns are only used by crime-fighting agency's, and banned for normal people like you and I, more than half of the crimes, murders, robbery's would minimize as almost all of them these days use guns. My last but not least point, think about how many people die by having a gun, intentional or not. About 2 weeks ago, I read an article on CNN on how a 2 year old accidentally shot his mother by taking her gun out of her purse. That's why guns should be banned for the protection, misuse, and accidents for normal people like you and I

I don't think you know what the word random means.

That doesn't mean crime would go away. Many criminals are able to get away from the scene of the crime before law enforcement shows up. Removing guns won't eliminate the criminals.

But, you are ignoring the people saved by being able to defend themselves with guns.

Gun related violence is down 50% from the 90's, first off.

Second, the 2nd amendment prevents guns from being "banned" without a constitutional amendment.

Third, legally owned guns are rarely used in the violent crimes you referred to.

And below is my reason:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a startling revelation for 2015. It is projected that deaths from guns will surpass deaths from car fatalities in 2015. An estimated 33,000 Americans will lose their lives from guns as opposed to an estimated 32,000 Americans who will die in car accidents.

The gun violence in America is an American Shame!
