Batman is a fictional character, a comic book superhero created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger. The character first appeared in Detective Comics #27 (May 1939), and since then has appeared primarily in publications by DC Comics. Originally referred to as "The Bat-Man" and still referred to at times as "The Batman", he is additionally known as "The Caped Crusader",[2] "The Dark Knight",[2] and "The World's Greatest Detective,"[2] among other titles.

In the original version of the story and the vast majority of retellings, Batman's secret identity is Bruce Wayne, an American millionaire (later billionaire) playboy, industrialist, and philanthropist. Having witnessed the murder of his parents as a child, he swore revenge on criminals, an oath tempered with the greater ideal of justice. Wayne trains himself both physically and intellectually and dons a bat-themed costume in order to fight crime.[3] Batman operates in the fictional American Gotham City, assisted by various supporting characters including his crime-fighting partner, Robin, his butler Alfred Pennyworth, the police commissioner Jim Gordon, and occasionally the heroine Batgirl, and/or the Huntress (comics). He fights an assortment of villains such as the Joker, the Penguin, the Riddler, Two-Face, Poison Ivy and occasionally Catwoman. Unlike most superheroes, he does not possess any superpowers; he makes use of intellect, detective skills, science and technology, wealth, physical prowess, martial arts skills, an indomitable will, fear, and intimidation in his continuous war on crime.

Batman became a very popular character soon after his introduction and gained his own comic book title, Batman, in 1940. As the decades wore on, differing interpretations of the character emerged. The late 1960s Batman television series used a camp aesthetic which continued to be associated with the character for years after the show ended. Various creators worked to return the character to his dark roots, with varying results. The comic books of this dark stage culminated in the acclaimed 1986 miniseries The Dark Knight Returns, by Frank Miller, as well as Batman: The Killing Joke by Alan Moore and Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, among others. The success of Tim Burton's 1989 film Batman, the first big budget studio interpretation of Batman in over 20 years, reignited interest in the character, followed by a thematically similar sequel by Burton. A further two cinematic sequels, more in keeping with Batman's campy, colorful 1960s incarnation, were made with diminishing commercial and critically returns made by Joel Schumacher. Continuing to keep the character culturally relevant, Christopher Nolan's also successful 2005 reboot Batman Begins and its two sequels are perhaps even darker than Burton's vision and have maintained a more serious and complex tone, more in keeping with Frank Miller, et al's grave, adult-orientated vision.

Batman is voiced by Kevin Conroy. That should pretty much close this matter.

Batman has always been my favorite since day one. He is cool because He is just a normal human being with a great mind.

Considering, in nearly every origin story, Peter Parker is a genius, I'd say Spider-Man has a great mind, too.

Spider-man needed a DNA changing spider to become a hero. But Batman became awesome all by himself.

You are right about Peter is a genius but Batman is a better detective than He is all around.

Batman is more intellectually advanced and more readily equipped with sufficient weaponry. Batman owns all.

Batman is more intellectual advanced.

This is so humorously untrue. Has everyone forgotten Spider-Man's origin story. Spiderman/Peter Parker is a friggin genius. Sure Batman has a significant amount of intelligence, but Spiderman surpasses it.

Sorry, that was the nerd in me. :p

Depends what franchise we're talking about though.

Comic book spidey is way smarter than comic book batman. He's a freaking beacon of nerd-dom.

However, movie spidey is a fucking hipster faggot, and isn't nearly as smart as movie batman. I've watched the Amazing Spiderman twice now, and he doesn't solve the decay rate algorithm. IT'S THE SAME FUCKING SUM WRITTEN OUT!

But I digress, there is a difference between the two.

It's just more pronounced that Spider-man is a genius. Have you never read something actually showing Batman's school days? If not, I suggest you read a few panels before making rash decisions, because Spiderman IS a high school boy, so it's gonna tell you a lot about how much of a genius he is, just like Batman's comics focus on how he's a buisness man.

In the comics, it shows Bruce has degrees in chemistry, physics, criminology, computer science, engineering, and mathematics. He also learns a variety of crime-fighting skills, including chemistry, criminology, forensics, martial arts, gymnastics, disguise, and escape artistry.

Also, I don't think Spiderman has the title of "The World's Greatest Genius". Batman, however, is well known as "The World's Greatest Detective". Ra's al Ghul even refers to him as "Detective". Not "A Detective", not "the Batman, but "Detective" or "THE Detective".

Batman by a mile. Probably one of the coolest super heroes but I have to say I prefer the villains. However back to the point- Batman kicks ass.

Side: Batman

Batman has a mystery about him as The Dark Knight and I like the Batmobile.

Side: Batman

I always felt like I could relate more to Spiderman. I mean he's just this normal kid

who has this freak shit happen to him and he's trying to make the best of it.

He's not rich, he's basically poor. He doesn't have a lot going for him, except for his Spider thing. But he's still trying to make the best of his situation and trying to make the world a little better place. And I'm not saying that Batman doesn't want that,

but he's so rich that he's above everything. You know Batman doesn't have to get up in the morning and go punch the clock at a bullshit job and listen to his manager bitch about TPS reports. Batman doesn't have to take the bus on a date. Batman doesn't have to feel shitty because it's Valentine's Day and all he can do is make his girlfriend a card out a paper grocery bag, paste, and pieces of cereal. He just doesn't get it, man. Fuck Batman!

pider-Man is a fictional comic book superhero who appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer-editor Stan Lee and writer-artist Steve Ditko, he first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15 (August 1962). Lee and Ditko conceived the character as an orphan being raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben, and as a teenager, having to deal with the normal struggles of adolescence in addition to those of a costumed crimefighter. Spider-Man's creators gave him super strength and agility, the ability to cling to most surfaces, shoot spider-webs using devices of his own invention which he called "web-shooters", and react to danger quickly with his "spider-sense", enabling him to combat his foes.

When Spider-Man first appeared in the early 1960s, teenagers in superhero comic books were usually relegated to the role of sidekick to the protagonist. The Spider-Man series broke ground by featuring Peter Parker, a teenage high school student and person behind Spider-Man's secret identity to whose "self-obsessions with rejection, inadequacy, and loneliness" young readers could relate.[1] Unlike previous teen heroes such as Bucky and Robin, Spider-Man did not benefit from being the protégé of any adult superhero mentors like Captain America and Batman, and thus had to learn for himself that "with great power there must also come great responsibility"—a line included in a text box in the final panel of the first Spider-Man story, but later retroactively attributed to his guardian, the late Uncle Ben.

Marvel has featured Spider-Man in several comic book series, the first and longest-lasting of which is titled The Amazing Spider-Man. Over the years, the Peter Parker character has developed from shy, nerdy high school student to troubled but outgoing college student, to married high school teacher to, in the late 2000s, a single freelance photographer, his most typical adult role. As of 2011, he is additionally a member of the Avengers and the Fantastic Four, Marvel's flagship superhero teams. In the comics, Spider-Man is often referred to as "Spidey", "web-slinger", "wall-crawler", or "web-head".

Spider-Man is one of the most popular and commercially successful superheroes.[2] As Marvel's flagship character and company mascot, he has appeared in many forms of media, including several animated and live-action television shows, syndicated newspaper comic strips, and a series of films starring Tobey Maguire as the "friendly neighborhood" hero in the first three movies. Andrew Garfield has taken over the role of Spider-Man in a reboot of the films.[3] Reeve Carney stars as Spider-Man in the 2010 Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.[4] Spider-Man placed 3rd on IGN's Top 100 Comic Book Heroes of All Time in 2011.[5]

Spiderman would win in a fight hands down .

Strength

Spiderman 10 tons Batman 1500 pounds

Speed

Spiderman 200 mph Batman 30 mph

Intelligence

Batman is smarter I'll admit but not by much.

Durability

Spiderman took a semiturck to the face throw on by venom and kept fighting like it was nothing. Batman got his back broke by Bane . Venom>Bane

Healing Factor

Spiderman has a superhuman healing factor , batman doesn't .

Reflexes

Spiderman dodges automatic gunfire , batman looks where the guns is pointed and moves out of the way . A normal soldier can do that . Spiderman actually dodges the bullets , not the gun barrel.

Fighting Skill

Spiderman has faster reflexes and better strength so Batman stands no chance in terms of fighting skill.

Equipment

Bat man has awesome gadgets but Spiderman's webbing can hold the hulk . Spiderman can also put up a web wall fast enough to stop bullets . Batman's batarangs are not as fast a bullet.

Experience

Batman stomps in this , no question . But experience will only get you so far .

Environmental Control

Spiderman can climb walls and with his webs he is better at using the environment to his advantage.

Overall

Spiderman : 8

Bat man : 2

While brains usually beats brawn batman is not much smarter than Spiderman . And batman may have stealth but that is cancelled by spider sense .

If you read many Batman comics, he has the use of a sonic device on his boot that summons bats and, wouldn't that kinda overwhelm Spidey's senses, allowing Batman to use his stealth as an advantage.

Also, Batman's batarangs can cut through his Bat-rope, which, at one point I think, held WW.

In Under the Red Hood, his exact words were;

"You know many knives that can cut my lines?"

"Not many."

"Exactly."

I like that you admit Batman is smarter than Spidey though, so many people have trouble accepting that.

Side: Batman

Spider-Man (his name is plastered all over billboards when a movie comes out, and on merchandise all the time, why do people still spell it incorrectly?) has a power set that nullifies most of Batman's advantages.

Batman beats most of his foes through his peak human conditioning and mastery of Martial Arts. Spider-Man is considerably stronger and has much better reflexes. He is also superior in durability and movement speed. Further, his spider-sense and ability to super-leap and cling to surfaces, combined with his considerable experience in using his powers to maximum advantage means that Bats would have extreme difficulty keeping up in unarmed combat, and actually WINNING seems almost impossible.

Batman is also known to outwit his opponents. Although I argue that he is smarter and more resourceful than Spidey, it is not by much, and probably not enough to normally compensate for the various advantages provided by the Spider powers and web shooters. Spider-Man himself is very clever, fast-thinking and scientifically literate. Unlike the dumb or crazy NON-POWERED thugs that the Bat usually encounters, Spider-Man isn't easily outwitted.

The primary advantage Bats has with powered opponents is often his gadgetry. And his arsenal is quite useful, no doubt. But Spidey is extremely quick and agile, and between this and all his other powers (and his webs, which considerably upgrade his already impressive mobility) he can dodge bullets coming from all around him with relative ease. A few Batarangs and knockout gas pellets would be even easier to avoid.

As far as Batman's ninja training, stealth isn't all that valuable against the Spider-Sense. Not only does Spider-Man know THAT the attacks are coming, he can pinpoint from where, even if he can't see the Bat.

Of course Batman isn't an easy target either. He keeps razor sharp blades on his gauntlet and is almost as strong as non-powered human can be, so webbing him to a wall won't end the fight like it does with most non-powered opponents, although it might slow Batman down enough to keep pressing the attack effectively.

Both of them are good at the one punch knockout, though I think both are too tough and strong-willed to properly use that approach on each other.

If Batman wizened up, he could start trying to use nerve attacks on the Webhead. Landing a punch on Spider-Man would be extremely tough for even Batman though. And Peter's heightened durability might make the strikes less effective.

What would most likely end up happening is Batman would quickly assess that he is outmatched and would beat a hasty retreat. As long as Spidey doesn't put a tracer on him (and if he did, the Batmobile should be able to alert Batman), a clever distraction and a few smoke pellets would allow him to escape (Spider-Sense only works as a locator when the opponent is attacking unless Spider-Tracers are employed.)

Once Batman is back in his Bat Cave, he could start using his brilliance to devise strategies. Maybe use something Spider-Man can't dodge (like sonics) to render him unconscious, develop a chemical that invalidates the webbing, plan special strategies with Spider-Man's known capabilities in mind, etc.

The next battle might even go Batman's way if he could keep it on his own terms.

But in a raw, face-to-face battle, Spider-Man far outclasses Batman. If the battle was unexpected and the Bat had no clue who he was dealing with, Spidey would have too many advantages for Batman to take down without numerous environmental advantages in his favor.

No one is saying he's invincible, we're just saying he would MOST LIKELY beat Spidey in a fight due to the fact that he is;

A. A grown man

B. Rich enough to buy basically ANYTHING, including, but not limited to, inhibitor collars

C. Stealthier

D. Has the thing on his boot to summon bats, therefore blinding Spidey AND most his senses.

E. A crime fighter good enough to fit in GOTHAM, not to mention he has NO POWERS WHATSOEVER!
