Being fashionable

I've pretty much been a styleless nerd my whole life. I would kind of look down on people who put a lot of effort into their appearance. I saw them as wasting a lot of money on superficial things.

But then a year or so ago I played a game called The World Ends With You. It's a cool game, and fashion plays a big role in it. It helped me see that fashion could be regarded as a form of art. It can allow for creative self-expression, offers people a sense of identity, and helps create and define a culture. I'm not going to run out and get all tattooed up or anything, but I've developed some respect for the people who do.

Side: Worth the effort

Being fashionable is always worth the effort if not worth the money! But you can have a wardrobe that is in style without spending a fortune if you know how and where to shop. I'm not really a fashion bug but more of a classic dresser with accessories that are stylish. If you catch the sales in your favorite stores you can have clothing that really rocks.

Another fashion accessory is the tattoo! No matter what they cost it's a lifetime investment so be careful where you place them if you're concerned about them going out of style, which I hope they won't since I have three!

Side: Worth the effort

Absolutely. I need to feel like I look good in order to feel good. I suppose it may tie into my insecurities and BPD, but if I get extremely self-conscious about the way I look, and if I don't think I look even mildly okay, I get extremely upset and can't function. The first time I went home from school because of my clothing was in kindergarten; I hated the pants I was wearing.

Maybe I'm just an extreme.

Ofcourse being fashionable is always worth the effort if not worth. Fashion has never been more expensive, but conversations about that sort of thing take on far greater urgency outside fashion circles than they do inside the gilded bubble.

Depends on ones idea of fashion. I won't follow "trends" or the most new fashions going around every month. I always dressed in what makes me comfortable, even if it's jeans and a tank. It might not be hollywood fashion, but it's fashionable in a Me-ish way. I otherwise, don't think it's worth the money to keep up with society's obsession with fashion and trends. Is it just me, or are skinny jeans the grossest jeans ever? I'll never get over how much I love boot cut jeans.

I think style, practicality, necessity and comfort beat fashion hands down for the individual. However, fashion is a great way of helping catalogue things for history. Ie houses built in this fashion were built around the time of 1960. But fashion should be based around necessity, not some crazy designers concept of what's pretty. And shops should stock fashions suitable for for the area and climates needs, instead of chainstores filling shops in tropical areas with winter clothing just because the rest of the country does.

People who are so into fashion have some sort of personal confidence problem. If someone cannot resist the peer pressure, than he/she is no better than those who are putting peer pressure on them.

At the same time, you don't have to dress like a bum, but rather something decent. Perhaps one of the reasons why women are always claiming sexual abuse is because they forget that men are just that way, evenmore when a woman dresses up where you can see every part of the body and gives you a boner. It is not sexual abuse, but rather natural part of any man (in most cases). You don't see animal females having a problem with it. Maybe these women should not dress that slutty and guys won't have a reason to act like bunch of cavemen....unless that woman is looking into an easy lawsuit instead of working every day.
