Vote here for one of the most revolutionary games consoles ever made. With games that are still amazingly playable today. The capability for expansion, and rumble pack functionality.

Vote here... for the N64.

Hurrah for N64! (Though I don't play it much anymore).

The N64 dominated FPS (Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, ugh why did Nintendo let go of Rare) and adventure games (Super Mario 64, Zelda, Banjo-Kazooie, Jet Force Gemini, DK64, Bomberman 64, the list goes on... ) completely, which is what I played at the tender ages of 10-12. And don't forget about Super Smash Bros! And Mariokart 64!

The mouse and keyboard are sweet for gaming.

But with the PC you have a ton of b.s. you have to put up with. Stick in the cd, type in the serial, get a new graphics card, update your drivers, upgrade your ram, update DirectX, download patches. The list goes on and on.

If you have a bad ass computer and you know what you're doing, you don't need to do any of what you mentioned beyond updating & patching, but all of the current platforms have updating and patching.

With PC you don't even need to buy the games.

I normally would vote for the PC as the best gaming platform, but the question did specify 'console'.

I guess the PC could qualify as a gaming console, especially if you're a hardcore gamer. Might as well pit it against the rest.

There is no better way to control yourself in a game than with a mouse and keyboard. Why do you think you can't compete with people on different platforms using the same game? People with PC's would annihilate anyone w/ a consoles controller. Response time w/ reflex games are a lot lower with PC's too.

I love RTS's too and if you've ever played an RTS on a console you know why I love the PC. You can make PC's that do nothing but game, I think they count as consoles... only extremely modular consoles.

RTS has to be played on computer, hands down.

Ever played Starcraft 64? Terrible game.

However, I don't agree that PC's reduce response times. For example, FPS games like Halo could be easily played on a controller. It could be as a result of the keyboard though, since there are more buttons (and therefore shortcuts) that could shorten response time, but they only apply to games that need those sorts of things.

PC is certainly the best. While potentially expensive, PCs offer the best graphics possible and most games can be modded by adding new items or vehicles with little effort. RTS's are probably my favorite type of game and the console just does not offer the control and precision that is needed to properly play games such as Supreme Commander or Total Annihilation.

"There is no better way to control yourself in a game than with a mouse and keyboard."

I dunno, I kinda like game controllers, especially since they vibrates and seem much more 'natural' or intuitive, increasing the immersiveness of the game.

I can't imagine playing Tekken on a keyboard for example, that would be awful.

I think a gaming console that sets the standard like PS2 did has yet to come out this generation

PC by far. If a game is on another console, you can just emulate it!

SNES holds that sweet spot of being the only household console in a period of time. As a result, there were a lot of good quality games... and a lot of crappy ones as well.

Yet, I don't think that 2-D gaming is where its at. FPS wouldn't have become the force it is now without the jump into 3-D. Sure, you can make RTS, RPG's, Puzzles, and Adventure Games, but 3-D just opens more room for creativity.

p.s. 3D killed gaming.

3D = higher budgets = lower risk tolerance for publishers = do the same shit in every game
