Better to live long or live to the max

Is it better to live a long "clean" and boring life or a short life "to the max"?

Live long

Side Score: 3
VS.

Live to max

Side Score: 7

Average life expectancy has been increasing for the past several years. If I live longer, the average life expectancy will increase, which allows me to live longer still, which allows the average life expectancy to increase, which allows me to live longer still, etc etc. Infinite life. If we live longer, the average life expectancy may increase but the happiness and enjoyment will be lost.

I would prefer to live "reasonable" - trying to be healthy but no totally sacrificing all fun and pleasure.

Why not live for all the pleasure and enjoyment you can get? Why prolong your dying? Your time could be over suddenly today or tomorrow, so why not do whatever you feel like doing while you can do it? Who in Hell cares? Does God care?

Side: Live long

Those who strive for longevity simply experience life as a mundane existence, while others, such as Ernest Hemingway, the greatest American writer of the 20th century, lived his life to the full. This barroom brawling, womanizing, whiskey swigging, flower arranging intellectual giant had squeezed more into his life by the time he was 30 than most boring wimps have done at three times that age. If life was expressed in terms of experience, he lived until he was 200 years old. In contrast, and metaphorically speaking, the 120 year old man living in quite solitude on the Tibetan mountains was, by the same measure, no more than 20. Live life to the full. Make provision for the future but live as though today was your last.

I agree with you to some extent. I prefer to limit drinking and smoking and I do exercise regularly (not obcessively). I think we could go a whole lot further with sexual pleasure and freedom if it were not for this archaic semetic patriarchal foundation.

Eh...living to the max is what's going to help me live longer.

Really dependz on how you define "to the max."

Its simple; Quality of life over duration any day. Would you rather have a short but happy life, or an awful prolonged life of poverty, disease, and pain?
