Better type of music?
By classic I mean 1700s and 1800s - NOT classic rock (for you kids out there).

Agreed 110%. I'd sooner listen to Metallica! However - my favorites from the 1800s are Mendelssohn and Wagner. The Germans always were superior to those French people. The Germans should be held in higher regard than that French crap. Granted, I have heard a few French pieces that I like - can't think of any right now, though. Same with art. The Germanic peoples were amazing at art. I can think of one Frenchman whom I would hold in similar regard: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ Side: Classic
A very good point. Yes, classical music was modern in it's day, but today's modern music is a lot worse than previous music genres, not better, like the classical music was. I'd say that music started off in medieval times, then progeassively got better, peaked at 1750-1800, then started slowly declining. Around the 1980's it started to get a lot worse because most music was, from that point on, was created electronically. Side: Classic

I think everyone has their own opinion on this. It depends on your raising, where/how you were raised, and in what culture. Technically speaking, classical is the best music. (By the way, the classical period of music was around 1750-1800-before that was baroque, and after it was romantic. Anything after 1900 is 'modern') It is a lot more beautiful to listen to. What kind of educated person prefers the crap that makes the charts today over Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyries'? Classical music is also more complicated and therefore actually requires talent to play. Anyone can learn guitar by watching youtube in an hour, but it takes much practice and time to play some of the best music ever composed. Need proof? look at a typical grade 6 piano piece, then look at a rock song-wait, it doesn't even come in notated music, but it should be easy enough seeing it has only 3 powerchords. Classical music uses a wider variety of instruments, and can therefore make many types of sounds, as opposed to one guitar making different sounds electronically. Classical music is real music. All music was until the late 80's, and eventually to now where all music we hear on the radio, or have on our iPods is more electronically generated than actual human-played music. Rap is NOT music, it's some black guy talking to a drumbeat, no actual notes at all. Even modern acoustic music is just the same riff played over and over again. Another thing: listening to, and especially playing classical music is beneficial for the brain and development for infants, while modern music causes tinitis or partial deafness, and it just sounds horrible. It's just a whole lot of loud noise, who on earth can actually say they like that crap? Now I'm not saying that all modern music is crap. Jazz and Blues, for example, are wonderful music genres, just like the old rock'n'roll band like the Beatles. Even some small, unpopular bands today are actually pretty good, but the bands that are actually famous and have albums, world tours, they're just crap. Most of them only became famous entirely by chance. Side: Classic

Well, it really all depends on the kind of person you are. For example, people like me (generally smarter people) think that modern music is boring, because most modern songs are just the same loop of the same 3 powerchords, while classical music has dynamics, many different scales, tempos and musical instruments.
