Blagojevich Says "I Have Done Nothing Wrong."

*I Will Fight I Will Fight I will Fight*

The state of Illinois is in a state of confusion and skulduggery of late as Governor Rod Blagojevich has been arrested by the F.B.I., is out on bail released on his own recognizance and still acts as Governor of the beleaguered state of Illinois! Congressman Jesse Jackson. Jr. is fighting for his political life as he attempts to secure President-elect Obama's seat in the Senate without having the possibility of being candidate #5, as mentioned in the 76 page complaint filed, hanging over his head and moving forward to a seat that is well deserved if his named is cleared. The Secretary of State of Illinois can reject any candidate now put forth by Blagojevich and the Senate itself can reject any candidate they feel is tainted. Should Blagojevich resign his office or should he stay and fight these charges to their legal end?

Of course.

His comments imply he did not do anything wrong. He's practically admiting he meant to do something wrong. There may never have been actual bags of money exchanged.

Last time I checked though, intent was a crime.

And whether legally punishable in this specific case; corruption none the less.

Will he though?

Of course not. Asshole.

If he truly is innocent than he need not resign. It just ups his political cred if he is able to beat these charges and maintain his political standing. So there is really no reason for him to resign if he is innocent. But if he is guilty that is another story.

I'm not sure you all understand what happens when someone in government is indicted. They still have Constitutional authority to do whatever their office permits (except pardoning themselves), including appointing a Senator. Now, the Illinois GA still has to approve any appointments, and they probably will shoot them all down. But there is plenty of damage Blag can do without GA oversight. Impeachment or resignation are the only surefire ways to keep him from doing damage. It's not our responsibility to find out whether he is guilty or not - it's our responsibility to look at the evidence that has been released and find out whether he is fit to continue in office or not. And since the people and probably most of the GA are already convinced he's not (bleepin' tapes), he should resign or else we'll kick his ass out.

Had you said something like, "innocent until proven guilty," okay.

Really though? Stay in office because it hurts Dems? Because, "We may even find out that Barack Obama had something to do with this!"

Your exclamation reveals your twisted joy at the mere possibility of such a finding, no matter how unlikely.

I've glimpsed into the dark mind of a Conservative, and I do not like what I see there.

So you want a corrupt official to stay in office just so the republicans can gain some political points? Wow, how noble of you.

I want him out, not because of his party or any other reason than corrupt officials hurt our government. If he was a republican or an independent I would feel the same way. He should be prosecuted for his actions (and there's plenty of evidence to convict him).

"So you want a corrupt official to stay in office just so the republicans can gain some political points?"

Yes, I do because he will not be making any decisions once under trial.

I have a follow up question: Do you want him to resign just so the Democrats won't lose any more political points?

He's not going to be able to appoint a replacement for Obama's seat. Either way, by State or on the Federal level, he'll be prevented making an official appointment. I don't believe for one moment the Dems want him to resign because of any attacks on the party!

Your Governor will be in the news for a fairly long time since he's going to fight this and that is hardly a reason for him not to resign! The corruption that has been prevalent in the state of Illinois has been disgusting no matter what the party affiliation. He won't get away with any of this if he resigns or not...that is, if he is guilty.

The problem with the impeachment process is that it will take time and it is time that will be wasted on a lame duck Governor who is no longer credible enough to do anything of import. I'm anxious to discover what, if any, Jesse Jackson, Jr. has to do with this. That is most likely because I like him so much. I'd be sorry to see such an intelligent and hard working public servant to have had any part in this. It will all come out in the wash. I doubt very much that Barack Obama had anything to do with this other than submitting his list of acceptable people to fill his seat through Rahm Emanuel, His Chief of Staff. I sense a certain amount of glee from you should there be an involvement by Obama! That will come out in time but to be joyful over such a prospect is quite offensive.

There is no reason that the Lieutenant Governor cannot take care of state business if Blago steps down. It's what he should do under the circumstances and charges of Federal corruption that are now bringing the wheels of government to a grinding halt there. To leave that government in the hands of an alleged corrupt official is unconscionable at this time.
