Boy wonder does it again.

"That's the problem. Anecdotal evidence is easily the weakest form of evidence and the most unreliable. Bigfoot sightings, and alien abductions are supported solely by anecdotal evidence. A memory is just as biased as the person holding the memory. Your refusal to do any actual research is characteristic of anti-intellectualism. If you are really interested in understanding our current recession, watch this video:" Bohemian

Bohemian claims he knows more than me and even states we are still in recession, regardless of what the Economist say.

Add New Argument

What we are presenting experiencing is the effects of a recession and not a recession.

Definition of Recession: The textbook definition of a recession is when GDP growth is negative for two consecutive quarters or more. http://useconomy.about.com/od/glossary/g/recession.htm

Current GDP for 2011 forth quarter is estimated at 2.8% and third quarter 2011 was 1.8%. In fact the last recession we had is in 2nd Quarter of 2009.

We are out of the recession by the slimmest of technicalities, yes, however the current conditions are only marginally better than they were only a few years ago. Being out of a recession by a mere 2% is like being out of boiling hot water, by entering water that is only a scalding 210 Degrees Fahrenheit. But hey, at least you're not in boiling hot water anymore. So if you would like to do your "I was right about something" dance, now would be the appropriate time.

I'm also surprised to see that you started using links....The end of the World must be Nigh.

Are you guys sure this is necessary? It's probably just a matter of opinion... Bohemian is just a little more cynical; it's just a byproduct of this generation.

No, it's not necessary. Thewayitis likes to make debates about me; I don't make debates about him. I think he has a slight obsession with trying to prove me wrong on something, anything really. Although I object to being called cynical, I'm simply being realistic. I am from one of the regions hardest hit by the recession, and the Job outlook is still pretty bad, and no where near what it was prior to the recession. I am optimistic that with time things will improve, but it's not cynical to say that the economy is only marginally better than it was in 2009. Also as a side note I am not from This generation.

| Side: Boy wonder does it again.

Of course this only a technicality, but bottom line is your wrong. You claimed to have superior knowledge of economics and failed economics 101. How does the guy that claims to know everything make such huge mistake?

| Side: Boy wonder does it again.

I use only those links that are not opinions, blogs, or wishful thinking. To state a cases on such atrocity is to make ones case for the opposing side. Bad evidence is worst than no evidence. A foundation built on quick sand is destined not to stand.

| Side: Boy wonder does it again.

The reason I go after you is your own fault. You claim to know all, and know very little. You prove this very thing every time you add a link. Facts stand on their own, they don't require farther evidence. Does one need to provide proof that if an object is dropped, it falls?

Einstein was once asked, "What is the speed of light?"

His response was, "Any semi-intelligent fool can look it up."

You've only recently started using links. I wonder why that is? What was it you said about links and about the internet being a propaganda machine?

| Side: Boy wonder does it again.

Again you lie. No surprise.

Note the date. This is just one example, further proof can be seen in my argument log.

The reason I go after you is your own fault. You claim to know all, and know very little.

I have never claimed to know it all, this is merely the accusation of one who is insecure in their own intelligence. You have something to prove, I can make you look like a fool with little effort, and so you think if you can best me in debate that you can conquer your own insecurity. This is your obsession with me. You MUST beat me.

Facts stand on their own, they don't require farther evidence

Your opinion does not constitute fact, no matter how strongly you believe it.

Does one need to provide proof that if an object is dropped, it falls?

I'll keep that in mind next time we discuss whether dropped objects fall, or whether whether cows go "moo". Or some similar topic which was effectively settled in nursery school.

Einstein was once asked, "What is the speed of light?"

His response was, "Any semi-intelligent fool can look it up."

There is no record of him having ever said this, however he did say something similar, which was:

"Never memorize something that you can look up." ~Albert Einstein

The meaning of the quote is quite the opposite of what you were intending. He is not against looking things up, but rather an advocate for conceptual learning. And If I hadn't looked it up I wouldn't have known that your quote is actually a terrible misquote. The utility of being able to effectively look things up, speaks for itself.

I'm sorry in the 600+ days I've been here I missed one from some 400 some days ago in a conversation that I wasn't involved in. But I've seen you use more links in the past 2 weeks than in all of the other times I remember debating you. Hell if you go to your argument waterfall, click "show all" basically everything after page 5 is devoid of links with the exception of links to other debates and dictionary definitions. Now do the same for mine and you will see the difference

| Side: Boy wonder does it again.

I'm glad that even you admit that you have to rely 100% on others to do your thinking.

BOHEMIAN: "I think he (TheWayItis) has a slight obsession with trying to prove me wrong on something, anything really." 1day 4hrs ago

....later...

THEWAYITIS: "Of course this only a technicality, but bottom line is your wrong." 2 hrs ago

Did I not predict that? Whether or not this is an official recession or a de facto recession, is unimportant. They're functionally the same. And according to Warren Buffett we're still in the Recession, under a different measure. "Buffett said he defines a recession differently from the NBER, saying it ends when real per capita gross domestic product returns to its pre-downturn level."

http://www.reuters.com/article/2010/09/23/us-buffett-recession-idUSTRE68M2TZ20100923

You claimed to have superior knowledge of economics and failed economics 101

Based on what exactly? I said 'this' recession. That was my mistake. You claimed that the recession was caused by terrorists. What I said was the dress equivalent of having an untied shoe, what you said was the dress equivalent of forgetting to put on pants.

I admit to learning from people who are smarter than myself, you should try it sometime.

| Side: Boy wonder does it again.

You claimed one doesn't need to be in business to know about Economics and then quoted a guy with 80 businesses.

If it wasn't for you, my arguments wouldn't carry much weight.

| Side: Boy wonder does it again.

Who isn't smarter than you? Apparently, it must be every one or at least every one found on Google.
