The USA is one of the few countries in the world where you have to pay to be let out pre-trial. In other countries there is a presumption of innocence and the decision to hold someone is either because they may otherwise flee, they will tamper with evidence or commit further offenses. If they are held then they CANNOT pay their way out. The USA is disgusting the fact that you all seem to think this type of thing is normal is scary. Please travel around the world a bit and see what life could be like. Side: Mentally ill
I'm sure you understand that bail money comes back to you after you return for it. It's simply a matter of giving someone incentive to return. They do cash bail in Germany as well. Bail in the UK may require handing over your passport for incentive. There are also bail procedures in Belgium. It's not that far fetched. Perhaps you're more upset about the US acceptance of surety. You probably aren't too familiar with the system. Side: Mentally ill
