CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.
To learn more about the CreateDebate scoring system, check out the FAQ.
When you are ready to voice your opinion, use the Add Argument button to create an argument.
If you would like to address an existing argument, use the Support and Dispute link within that argument to create a new reply.

Calling people stupid is an effective way to get them to think more deeply
The last debate I posted displayed a conspiracy video that I know was persuasive because someone I work with insisted that I watch it. I posted it here looking for well reasoned refutation and I was bombarded with insults and down votes. This despite that I never said anything defending the video in the first place. So it inspired this debate
People who are in need of being called stupid aren't going to listen either way. When you call them stupid they at least stop talking about the stupid things they were saying and start complaining about being called stupid.
Its a way of guaranteeing there will be no debate. If I were to go to the guy who insisted I watch the video and tell him " You have to be stupid to believe anything in it", We would probably actually have a fist fight. Of course its easy to hurl insults on internet forums.
The last debate I posted displayed a conspiracy video that I know was persuasive because someone I work with insisted that I watch it.
But this is faulty logic. How does the fact that somebody you know insisted that you watch a video assure you that it was indeed persuasive? Maybe they were mistaken or ill-informed on the topic of the video? And we certainly don'y know that person's level of knowledge in the subject. so that would not in any way make us think, a priori, that the video was assured to be persuasive.
That said, I did not watch the video and indeed missed that entire debate. So I cannot call it stupid. But yeah, sometimes, I suppose, when we get harshly criticized or even insulted here on CD after posting our opinions on something, that CAN fuel us to maybe go back to the drawing board and re-think our OP.
But sometimes not. After all, we have several members here who call others stupid and ignorant--or condemn us to Hell!--simply for not believing as they do.

The very first response you got was me spending 10 minutes going through and pointing out every factual inaccuracy, specifically. You responded with "Not helpful".
If you want people to post legitimate comments, then come up with legitimate responses. Otherwise you are only contributing to the problem you bemoan.
Yea, they should. It's the one that says - hey, this guy says all wars are started by jew bankers, can anybody find anything seriously wrong with that...
No its usually brave online coward in real life. My Name is David Janca I am a real person. I dont hide my identity like most of you chicken shit rude mouthed people here
If you call someone stupid, they're much less likely to agree with what you're saying. If you want someone to accept the things you're saying, you have to be respectful. Insulting someone isn't going to make them open up and agree with you.
I'm not always aiming at convincing the person I am debating.
I am comfortable making the case that I believe is sufficient for the objective future reader.
If atypican is stupid enough to post a video that bad without the tiniest scrutiny, then I'm not eager for him and I to agree on anything.
Hopefully the future reader gets the idea that the video is abhorrent and mostly deliberate falsehoods and can then either choose not watch it, or watch it with a very high degree of skepticism - and, just maybe, get the idea to apply that same scrutiny to the rest of the internet...
I'm not generally rude online or off until provoked by idiots. But I certainly don't care about hurting your feelings. You're the hypocrite for trying to be all PC and a dick at the same time - don't call things stupid, stupid - pretty bright.
"you are stupid. Calling things stupid isn't actually presenting a reasoned argument"
Literally in the same post.
any hope of good conversation and debate goes out the window
Good debate requires more than one person who actually debates things - so, you are right that it was hopeless.
And, if you can't tell, prima facially, that ALL WARS - US or otherwise - aren't attributable to any one type of person or motivation, you are stupid...
just an underhanded jab in response to yours?
Don't be rude, but here's my "underhanded jab".
likely due to dickheads like you.
And not the person who makes debates about other debates where their feelings were hurt?? sure, stick with that...
Nothing in the video indicates he is intentionally being hyperbolic. He states a claim, then says that he is going to use some examples to back that claim up.
Mind you the examples he uses are factually inaccurate, much like his premise.
I do not agree. When you call someone stupid, or something they do stupid, you make them question themselves, NOT think deeply. You make them feel worthless. If you want to tell someone to think deeper before they make an action, then tell that another way... not by calling them stupid.
First, the default approach on this site is indeed to call the opposition stupid. Both the left and right do it.
Second, although most on this site don't bother to document anything or even to clash on arguments there are some who will go out and find a link or something to bolster their side, and in that respect being called stupid does inspire them to dig a little deeper.
And finally third, I didn't watch your video or comment on your debate because a) I was somewhere I didn't have the time or privacy to do that, and b) too often the video links people post are giant time sucks of propaganda, and I'm not going to subject myself to propaganda just so I can come back in to post "gee I watched it".
