Can one obey and remain free?

It goes without saying that this whole argument depends on the definition of 'free', but taking it in a literal sense (freedom to make decisions) then yes, I believe one can obey and remain free. For example, one must (whether they like it or not) obey the laws of gravity, yet they are still 'free' to choose what they say when they wake up. Furthermore, obeying infers that one has made the choice to do what one is being told: is that in itself not a freedom to choose?
