I would say that it's the other way around in a sense... that the economical problems are the direct result of capitalism being overpowered by socialism. The more socialism gets its tentacles in places the goverment shouldn't be, the more dire the problems become. It would seem to me that most of these problems are directly due to leftist policies and too much government. The establishment of minimum wages, affirmative action, punitive taxes, discouraging employers and encouraging dependency through welfare and other subsidies etc. This is not sustainable. The faster we return to the free market, the faster we'll be back on track. Side: False
Excellent post. I would just like to add that the OP cited high unemployment rates. First, I will concede that we hide our actual rate by not counting people who quit looking for work; however, has he seen the rates in some of the more socialist countries in Europe. Spain is at 25%. Socialism just does not work. As Margaret Thatcher once said, "the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples money." One last thing with regard to European socialism. IF they had to spend the same percentage that we do on defense, they wouldn't be able to afford their socialist agenda. The US spends 2-4 times more per GDP than almost every country in Europe. The free market is what keeps a country economically strong. Please give me a list of socialist countries that are thriving and successful, because I can't think of any. Also, I know what the official definition of socialism is, obviously, but I think we apply it differently. How do you define socialism as it pertains to a nations economy and to its individuals.
