Child Exposure to Marilyn Manson

Many people, including talk show hosts, have debated with musician Marilyn Manson about the "bad influences on children in today's day and age." As Bill O'Reilly said in an interview, children are being exposed to so many influences in popular culture and are vulnerable to being morally misguided. Marilyn Manson's music has been targeted as vulgar and deviant, however I think his music is quite complex and obscure and requires thorough listening to understand the meaning behind his music. Some kids who feel like "outsiders" are likely to relate to the criticisms of society conveyed in his music.

My debate is that I think that Marilyn Manson can hardly be considered a "negative influence", I actually think that he's been a positive influence to me the more I listen to his music and look deeply into the meaning. In my opinion, yes, he's performed rather lewd conduct on stage, in concert, but then again, you have to be eighteen to be at his shows. For MANY reasons. Anyways, I would say that he is a musician like any other, just like Nicki Minaj or rappers who curse in their songs. Just like Miley Cyrus, who gets bashed for being partially naked on a video, but so has Britney Spears, Pink and Katy Perry.

I would suggest that in this day and age of information overload there is a high potential for children to be exposed to material that is beyond their capacity and maturity to understand and ipso facto may potentially be harmful.

This is an issue where we need to consider how to protect the vulnerable in our community from adverse material, and therein lies another debate upon what is adverse and what is not.

Yes, i would lump him with the bands you mentioned but not with the much better bands like pink floyd.

The older generation is always going to knock the younger generation. When Elvis Presley came out, I saw some video clips of some preachers warning parents not to let their children listen to this "devil music."

Marilyn Manson is O.K. with me. He should not be singled out when there are other performers who do the same kind of musical repertoire.

I would never expose my children to marilyn manson, that's just fucked up.

I would expose marilyn manson to my children and watch him beg for mercy though, that is the way to show the world what beasts I helped create.

This could be debated, you can't keep your child from seeing things that are basically viral and everywhere, in my opinion, Marilyn Manson is not wrong, he is a world trademark, he makes a difference and he could be considered by some a savior. I felt that some of my depression went away after listening to him. Again, it just depends on the child's age.

if they are 18+ i still wouldn't want to expose them to him, i would only want to expose him to them.

Manson teaches people to value themselves above all others. He also believes that the main problem with society is we have too many weak minded people and we should weed the garden. I agree and I started a debate called License To Reproduce.

i'm gonna raise my children on Manson his music is f-ing great and this man is a modern day philosopher, worst case scenario is my son turns out like me haha. I hate parents that restrict their kids on what they are exposed to , keeps them from actually living and experiencing the real world.

I believe we should let kids listen to what they want unless the parent think it is against religious beliefs. I myself Love Marilyn Manson even when I was younger.
