Children over the age of 12 should allow to leave their house alone
Maybe yes for some of them. But you ignore every other possible variable such as: safety of the neighborhood history of substance abuse history of risky sexual behavior mental health, emotional health, autism spectrum, etc parental discipline actions for prior bad behavior Are you 12? Why is this a concern? Children who are over the age of 12 should allow to leave their house alone without any restrictions from family, parents or guardian. I'm going to guess you're 12. I don't think any parent in their right mind would give their 12 year old carte blanche. Going outside with restrictions? Sure. But nothing what so ever in terms of when to be home and where to go? No. A main reason why? Well you said it in your question. They are still a child. They are the parents responsibility and any parent who cares about their child sets the rules to protect them. Short answer: no - Long answer: What really stands out in your argument is the portion which states, "without any restrictions". Absolutely not, and this remains true in most households until either 18, or when you move out. Way back when I was under the age of 12 I was allowed to go out and play with my friends and even roam the neighborhood, but there were still restrictions as there should be. Only an irresponsible parent would allow otherwise. Sure you can consider the safety of your neighborhood and the child's history, but no matter what, no 12 year old should be allowed to get up and leave at 2am. It remains the right of the parents or guardian to set rules as they see fit. |
