Christian nationalism. What are your thoughts on it?

From what I gather David Barton, who, in addition to running an organization called Wallbuilders that disseminates Christian nationalist books, tracts and videos, is also the vice-chairman of the Texas Republican Party.

Christian Nationalists believe that America was never supposed to have freedom of religion and that it was supposed to be a Christian nation and only a Christian nation. There was even a tarriorists group of Christian nationalists that called for another crusade to rid America of all none Christians.

That is entirely wrong.

This country was founded with a secular government. FACT. None of the founders save for one minor one wanted the christian religion to have anything to do with how the country opperated. And needless to say, majority ruled.

Most of the founders took a very critical stance on christianity. Each had their own bone to pick with it in one way or another. Quite a few founders were even deists and closet atheists.

The 1st amendment should be enough to dismiss the notion that the US was meant to be a christian nation but if this is not persuasive enough heres another example:

Treaty of Tripoli: Formed between the US and the pirate nations of the Barbary coast. Section 1 (i think): "The US is in no way founded on the christian religion." Signed by Thomas Jefferson.

Straight from the horse's mouth. (Is that the expression?).

I think Christian Nationalism is something in Texas. I do not think it could happen anywhere else. Some people would probably think that Christian Nationalism is an oxymoron.

As for its implications, I think they would be low profile.

I don't see how America could only be a christian nation. What about the native americans? Religious diversity makes the world more interesting.

It can happen by doing this: Only Christian lit and science taught in school. Declare the 1st amendment obsolete and call America a christian nation. Then you brainwash the media with lots of religious mumbo jumbo and eventually people will believe it. Also with the native Americans you kicked them out of their land once and you guys can do it again.

They could definitely try to do that, but I promise, I will lead the revolution if anyone tries to take away the first amendment. And since the other side is stupid enough to think that when the Founding Fathers said "this isn't a Christian nation" that they meant "this is a Christian nation", the more intelligent people of the revolution will win.

I heard about that before you posted this debate how the other Muslim countries wanted to get rid of all the Christian websites off the internet.

To me they can try all they want to get Christianity off the internet and remove Bibles but I will still stand tall with my beliefs. No person is going to take my beliefs away even if someone wants me to re announce my faith or else I die.

Maybe what he is trying to say is that he would not have appreciated it if it was the other way around so, so he is against the christian nationalist agenda.

Its basically the same thing except another country wants us to get rid of Christianity out of America.

Christian nationalism --- medieval Europe?

Absolutely Not! I would never even want it. And I am a Christian myself. Having the freedom to choose, is a God given right. You choose whether you want or don't want God in your life. You just can't have somebody force it down your throat. Yes, I do believe that Christian morals are good for any given country. But just to clarify intolerence is not a Christian principle. On the contrary, Jesus preached "Let he who is without sin throw the first stone" and "Treat others the way you want to be treated". Jesus was against any form of oppression. I believe in a society where people of all faiths can profess his or her own faith. That is why I love my country. America was founded upon the principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Christian Nationalism can lead to possible wars. Theoretically, America is a Christian nation by population and Christmas is a designated Federal Holiday but I don't think there is any need to mix Christianity with Nationalism.
