Of course they should do prison time and only an authoritarian dickhead would believe anything else. The clue is in the wording. The person was a SUSPECT, not a CONVICT. Suspects can be and often are completely innocent of the charges raised against them, which is why the law stipulates that they are entitled to a legal process. Torturing people who have not been convicted of a crime is a crime itself. Side: Yes.

I stopped watching after the raw video ended, so I didn’t get the news lady’s take on it. After using tazers which failed to gain compliance, the officer used batons. In using batons they struck the man on the meaty part of his thigh to maximize pain and minimize the risk of serious injury. When the man fell to the ground in pain, he was still uncooperative. After the officer stuck the man one final time on the meaty part of the thigh, the man complied with officer comands. I don’t know what the investigation will find, and I don’t know why the cops didn’t utilize pepper spray first, but they utilized their batons in a less lethal manner, perfectly within the parameters of the law, and as trained. They will keep their jobs and see no jail time. Side: No.

Seems to me like the question and the video have little to do with each other. In the video as I understand it, the thief was caught in the act. So "suspect" is a bit misleading, though perhaps technically correct, I'm not sure. Also, I wouldn't call that "torture". Now was it more violent that necessary? Seems so, but I can't be sure without seeing it from a better angle. I think a warning or an investigation is in order, but prison time? No. Not just for this anyway. If they were actually torturing a suspect, then yes, they should do prison time. Side: No.
