Could Imperialism work in this day and age?

Could it? Sure, but in the same way Elvis COULD still be alive. Neither is a very viable option.

Initially starting imperialism back up would be immensely difficult, what with the UN and their conventions. Even if one country did reestablish it, it couldn't last long. They would face the same problems that every empire has ever faced, with one notable unique problem. Social media.

Free press, Twitter, Facebook. It has never been so easy to organize mass events, like revolts against the government. Look at Tunisia or Egypt, places where protests were exclusively organized via social media.

So, could it work? Yes. Would it, and moreover, should it? No.

"Free press, Twitter, Facebook. It has never been so easy to organize mass events, like revolts against the government."

It's also never been easier to create propaganda. Also, though solcial networking sites claim to have been behind revolutions they ctually had very little input on the situation, most of the "rebels" in the Tunisian and Egyptian online "revolutions" were actually westerners.

"should it? No."

Why shouldn't it? Moral ethics?

True.

though solcial networking sites claim to have been behind revolutions

I didn't say that. I meant that they were used to organize events, they weren't actually behind the revolutions.

most of the "rebels" in the Tunisian and Egyptian online "revolutions" were actually westerners.

Source?

Why shouldn't it? Moral ethics?

That is one reason, but not the main one. Simply put, imperialism is an inferior form of government. The government has heavy control not only of its own people, but on other country's people. This restricts freedom, and ultimately leads to the collapse of the empire. Imperialism is unsustainable, and there is no need for it.

If by imperialism you mean pressing developing countries into servitude by forcing them to work extracting their own resources and then taking all the good stuff and keeping it for oneself, like Britain used to, then no. It's not right, and it doesn't work. It just encourages a bunch of protests by skinny spiritualists.

What the hell do you mean "like Britain used to"?

Back in the old days, the British Empire. That's why our politicians keep having to apologise to everyone.

Is there some assumption that it worked in the past? It didn't then and won't work today.

What I'm implying is whether it is better than modern day government systems. In a sense, it did work in the past, a country in Europe had to adopt the imperialist policy to keep ahead of other countries. If you were a colony you stood a good chance of being protected from invaders. It's basically a racketeering scheme.

There is no such thing as good modern or classical system of government. All forms of government are inefficient and ineffective.

Imperialism is far from economic and personal liberty where the empire controls all economic, cultural and territorial relationships where it undertakes mercantilism. Who would want to go back to that besides Axmeister?
