Well, duh! You can't debate something unless you have an opinion and you argue it with your interpretation of what the debate is actually about. I mean, sure, this debate I just made is exactly my point. It is my opinion that my interpretation of what a debate is correct. So ya, this is the basis for what any given debate truly is, or truly needs to be considered a debatable topic. Side: Well...Yeah

Sometimes. Sometimes there are definite facts though, that either one side or the other is simply wrong about. Like the black hole debates. What a black hole is isn't a matter of opinion. I mean, it's some definite thing. Just because no one really knows at this point, does not make it an opinion up for interpretation, it simply means we don't know. I would argue most debates on some level are fact based instead of opinion based. I think the best debates are when there is a definite correct answer, but neither knows what it is really. That's the point of debate I think... hopefully. Side: Um...No
Usually, but as David said, there are some objective truths that are just definite. We know that black holes exist. We know that we exist (unless you wanna debate on Solipsism, but this is a debate outside of objectivity, so it doesn't apply to FACT). and as David pointed out, sometimes we're debating to find the right answer. Even though Jessald and some other guy say there is no debate, the issue on whether Humans CAUSE global warming is still in effect. Now, just because the official pioneers of the Global Warming theory refuse to debate the independent scientists who don't believe in it doesn't ACTUALLY mean that there is no debate. Well, yes, there's no official debate because they banned it, but there's still skepticism... and with that comes debate. official or not. sorry, mini rant there. Side: Um...No
